Hello
[23:14]
pdrhi [23:23]
aukeroordaHey pdr
I have a question about SVG paths
I have edited in this screenshot: http://prntscr.com/a178hk
I looked at the w3 specification but I couldnt really find what I was looking for there
[23:25]
pdraukeroorda, I can't really tell what you are asking for. [23:26]
aukeroordaHmm, do you use illustrator?
Wait, I make a new screenshot
[23:27]
pdrI do not [23:27]
aukeroordahttp://prntscr.com/a17bfl As you can see here, the 4 lines are just straight
but their stroke has a 'shape', that morphes along the path
[23:28]
pdrah, "variable width strokes" is the keyword you're looking for [23:28]
aukeroordaAh, thanks! [23:29]
pdrit's been proposed but afaik is not supported nor is there a plan
if you want to shoot an email to the spec group, it's www-svg
[23:29]
aukeroordaAm I important enough to try to get people to change the specification just for a case I want? I am just using this for a single svg animation [23:30]
pdraukeroorda, it's not really about importance per say :) Feedback is always welcome from actual users
aukeroorda, how are you doing the animation btw?
[23:32]
aukeroordaWith javaScript
Trying to make a watch
I have the functionality
but now I want to make functions to draw the watch
instead of making the watch in an vector editor
[23:33]
pdrgotcha. For your usecase, I'd just manually compute the points on the path in javascript
like... render the stroke itself as a path
[23:33]
aukeroordaYeah, hmm [23:34]
pdrI used this approach for a speedometer a few days ago [23:34]
aukeroordaThis is zoomed in on the watch I am trying to replicate: http://prntscr.com/a17eda
There are really many cresent moon shapes
[23:34]
pdrwhere are the cresent shapes? [23:35]
aukeroordaThey are relief circles, casting crescent shaped shadows [23:35]
pdroohh
I see
the background
[23:35]
aukeroordaYeah, really subtle [23:35]
pdrYou might want to look at filters to see if you can achieve this effect [23:35]
aukeroordaHmm, svg filters? [23:36]
pdryeah [23:36]
aukeroordaHmm, this might actually be better http://stackoverflow.com/questions/16664244/draw-a-crescent-moon-using-svg-in-html
I have the parameters for the coordinates
so maybe it is better to create actual outlines
[23:37]
pdrmight want to get out a compass to double-check that these really are crescents [23:38]
aukeroorda*I mean circles and use the clipping
Hmm, it is physically so?
[23:38]
pdryeah. I'm not sure if a shadow cast by a circular pattern can be represented by two intersecting circles. I'm just not sure, it may work [23:39]
aukeroordaHmm, might be really close to css shadow actually: http://www.corelangs.com/css/box/img/css-shadow.png
Which is close to the svg filters you suggested
[23:39]
pdryeah, there's a shadow filter
in svg too
[23:40]
