I actually prefer having a VPN and using easy passwords... but here it's not so easy to keep a backdoor open to the setup, in case the VPN dies or such.

just last night there was this hanging MySQL-process.. I didn't notice, no one pinged me here, got no e-mail and people couldn't log in to the machines... rather unfortunate! :(
