I found the bug
there are several dead assert's in the diff procedure in dff/lib.php
eh /lib/diff.php
they have no purpose and should never be left in a production version
after removing all asserts

My question relates to the extremely slow large nested file galleries
I've implemented Sylvieg's patch to speed up the file galleries when the explorer is off
and it has worked tremendously, but I would like to know how to cache the file gallery structure so that the explorer can be activated and have the speed by not recreating the explorer tree each time I move from one gallery to another.

The speed is important, but many of the users used the "breadcrumbs" to jump between directories...and that does not work with the explorer turned off.

yeah, If you make any changes to individual files in the file gallery also, it will send the files that  made changes to to the root.  Thats why I had to manually set the parent ID.
But I think that whole tree should be cacheable...I'm just not sure how to go about doing it

so, about the coding/testing: When I want to run apache directly on my svn checkout, then I basically have to work as the user under which apache is running.
else, i have to copy changes made in the apache directory into the svn checkout or vice versa.

I have another request regarding file galeries that is much less urgent.   But I think would help catagorization a lot.  Right now, if you go to the "parent gallery" setting within the "edit file gallery listing", there is a drop down menu containing all of the file galleries.   This list gets pretty darn long when you have 3000 + galleries...not only that, but many of my galleries have the same names as other

an easy check is to see if the number of files in the directory is not going done (if no file delete is occuring)
I also confess, I think that people only look at the files once when they are uploaded for a day and never look at them again.
