leons007 | anyway... My question is about "banners" feature in tw. It seems that I can't get @$#% Javascript in there without tikiwiki trying to pull javascript out. The reason I want Javascript is of course for google ads. Yes, I know I can have Google's ads themselves and already have them, but I want to intermingle them in the same space with other ads
any advice would be appreciated. thanls thanks that is | [05:27] |
chibaguy | leons007, I'm not sure about this. I thought adsense ads had to be page-specific, according to the agreement with Google.
About the javascript being stripped out, maybe a workaround is make a banner that creates an iframe and then put the banner content, including the javascript, in a plain html page that the iframe calls. (the page-specific thing meaning that the page is what gives the ad its context to show appropriate ad links) | [05:30] |
leons007 | thanks chibaguy. I was looking away from the page fro a few minutes. I have tried iframe as well, but unfortunately clever tikiwiki strips out ifrmae too :(
btw, adsense seems to be clever enough - it does get page specific ads for each page ricks99 filed the following request - http://dev.tikiwiki.org/tiki-view_tracker_item.php?trackerId=5&itemId=1848 and I saw a few other requests... I am wondering, as an alternative, how do I make tw NOT strip out javascript in certain instances? | [05:44] |
chibaguy | What if the banner ad is just a link to an html page that has an iframe, and that iframe loads a second html page that has the adsense code, etc.? Still gets stripped?
Gotta reboot here. Will be back shortly. | [05:49] |

ricks99 | hi leons007
my only workaround was to hardcode into the tpl afaik, there is no way to get jscript into the banner. | [15:54] |
PS|bot | SVN: Commit by sylvieg :: r 15846 /trunk/templates/tiki-list_file_gallery.tpl: [FIX]fgal: sync add comment button with box | [15:58] |
leons007 | thanks ricks99, when u hardcoded it into tpl, did u just include that tpl into a module?
I would like to have ability to either have my own banners OR Google adsense banner showing up in the same module on the screen. Is there no way to tell tiki NOT to strip away SCRIPT in certain pages? | [16:00] |
SEWilco2 | Hmm. I have a site in maintenance mode while I create it. One of my browser tabs refuses to show the banner image (stored in an image gallery). "View Image" asks me to log in. | [16:02] |
ricks99 | u could include the js in a custom module.
for my usecase, i had to edit the tpl directly (had some customization) | [16:03] |
*** | PrezKennedy has joined #tikiwiki | [16:03] |
ricks99 | how do u determine if to show google adsense *or* ur banner? | [16:03] |
SEWilco2 | Related to the leons007 script problem: Can an admin put Javascript in a "Dynamic content" HTML object? Then it could be included where appropriate. | [16:03] |
ricks99 | @SEWilco2: issue is that banners do not accept wiki syntax
no way to include the dynamic content block in a banner if the banners could accept wiki sytnax, could simply use the JS plugin | [16:07] |
SEWilco2 | Oh, yeah. And I don't know of a URL to retrieve a dynamic content block. | [16:09] |
ricks99: I added plugin SHARE to trunk several hours ago. Can alter its social network appearance by changing one line to invoke ADDTHIS, SHARETHIS, or SUBMIT plugins.
ricks99: I'll start a discussion in dev list later today about task-oriented interfaces as opposed to single tool interfaces ("show image" plugin vs "show framed image" plugin). | [16:15] | |
*** | ricks99_ has joined #tikiwiki | [16:18] |
leons007 | ricks99, sorry, went to have breakfast... That's the whole thing why I wanted to use built in banners - they do "time slicing", that is, on page 1 it will show banner X (random) while on page 2 - banner Y. Basically I want to use Google, until I have my own advertisers...
thanks SEWilco2, for trying to help too :) | [16:19] |
SEWilco2 | ricks99_: Soon I'll alter SHARE to allow multiple simultaneous tools, in case someone wants several social tools; particularly if someone adds things like Google Friend Connect widgets.
SEWilco2 first typed Fiend Connect, but Google isn't evil | [16:20] |
ricks99_ | a single plugin to allow any widget?
basically just a "pass through"? | [16:21] |
SEWilco2 | ricks99_: Any social networking widget.
ricks99_: The purpose is so you can change the behavior without having to edit every plugin invocation in the database. | [16:21] |
ricks99_ | so i'll be able to add any of these (http://www.widgetbox.com/search?q=social+networking) with a single tw plugin? *very* cool :) | [16:22] |
SEWilco2 | ricks99_: So if you decide that ADDTHIS isn't what you want you can change to a different plugin. Someone has to have written a TW plugin. | [16:23] |
*** | ricks99 has quit IRC (Read error: 60 (Operation timed out)) | [16:24] |
SEWilco2 | SHARE only looks at its option to see what TW plugin to invoke. I'll change it to a list of options soon, so more than one can be specified. | [16:25] |
ricks99_ | so ur SHARE plugin is an sort of a meta-plugin? there still needs to b a plugin for each widget? | [16:25] |
SEWilco2 | ricks99_: Yes, it simply invoked other TW plugins. And it's only for trunk due to using some trunk tikilib plugin functions. Had to hack it to make it work in 2.2. | [16:26] |
ricks99_ | ah.. got it | [16:27] |
SEWilco2 | ricks99_: The purpose of SHARE is to be invoked without options, so its appearance can be altered by changing its configuration.
I already have a wish list item for default plugin option configuration, so one can specify a default string to be passed as initial options to a plugin. | [16:27] |
ricks99_ | *rick still wishes it was simplier to add 3rd party widgets to tiki | [16:28] |
SEWilco2 | Until there is an admin-level plugin configuration tool, the code for SHARE has to be altered to specify the default option. | [16:29] |
ricks99_ | creating a plugin for every widget is a pita | [16:29] |
SEWilco2 | ricks99_: Your ricks99 name timed out.
At least for javascript widgets, it would be nice if something like "dynamic content" objects could be created by an admin with javascript. Being trusted, those could then be invoked. | [16:29] |
*** | ricks99_ is now known as ricks99 | [16:32] |
ricks99 | would like to see a security perm to allow 'trusted' users to add scripts through simple copy/paste
need to balance security risk vs. ease of use | [16:33] |
SEWilco2 | Yup. But having a user whose JS edit filter was disabled would increase the chance for accidents. Either require they check an "Allow scripts" checkbox at edit time, or have special objects for script code. | [16:36] |

SEWilco2 | ricks99: Maybe we need a tool which recognizes a JS widget pattern and accepts those which match the pattern.
ricks99: So an admin could add a "script acceptance pattern" by pasting a YouTube script and replacing the video name with ".*" or some magic word. ricks99: Then anyone (or anyone with "script permission") could paste such a YouTube widget and it would be accepted. ricks99: Although from a content management point of view, it would be better to extract the script name and feed it to a "VIDEO" plugin with option "site=youtube, video=xxxx" options. In case the YouTube incantation changes in 20 years. | [17:04] |

Caarrie | right
but would be nice to have a tiki person host it just incase they want to modify it in anyway ;) | [20:00] |
amette | yeah, should be on irc.tw.o imho - but that hasn't moved yet | [20:01] |
Caarrie | as long as i can get ssh access in a matter of minutes i can setup the bot with a new nick to run ;) | [20:02] |
amette | why is everyone so eager to get ssh access? I shouldn't have mentioned that.. | [20:02] |
Caarrie | :P
i did ;) not you | [20:02] |
amette | I did on mailing list - as soon as I clicked "Send", I knew it was a mistake ;)
the problem is not the access, the problem is that irc.tw.o hasn't moved yet | [20:02] |
Caarrie | moved to where? | [20:03] |
amette | new server | [20:03] |
Caarrie | ah
and when might that happen? | [20:03] |
amette | now that it's on my list - hopefully before 13th | [20:03] |
Caarrie | ok just let me know the status ;) | [20:04] |
amette | yup | [20:04] |
Caarrie | i dont have a problem hosting it, just that when i go back home and reconnect he will spam the channel :P for all the commits in the last few hours :P | [20:04] |

btiffin | Tiki Calendar problems. Clean browser, http://add1tocobol.com Calendar shows Dec 1 as a Monday. Login; display goes wrong with the first shown as Tuesday. It seems to shuffle one day for each valid logged in user. So two people log in, it'll show as Wednesday. Hover over Tooltips always correct. Once logged out, the display stay wrong even for Anonymous until a cycle of the browser. 2.2 arcturus. Fire
fox and Konqueror both "break" on the calendar once a login has occurred. | [20:16] |
SEWilco2 | I just did an svn update and features.csv vanished. I have a copy of it from last night, but hesitate to update from it without knowing why it vanished. | [20:17] |
