chibaguy | Thinking about the ui revamp, it would be good to see how versatile the new code is; i.e., how many looks/layouts (for page top, wiki actions, etc.) can be done with css only.
For example, the new tabs are great for an easily editable wiki, but for installations where the look should be less wiki and more normal web page, the tabs are probably too in-your-face. So either there should be an option to use the tabs or more subtle links/buttons, or it should be easily doable on a theme/css level. Anyway, the functionality needs to be there first, and this is happening. :-) | [05:01] |
marclaporte | My sites will be without tabs I think
but, you are asking the right questions | [05:12] |
chibaguy | Wiki page-tops have been very cluttered, especially if lots of things are turned on. So it'll be great to have all this cleaned up.
But for some sites and some people, tabs at the top aren't the way to go. But I'm thinking it won't be too hard to provide some options. | [05:16] |

hi chibaguy, i think it is already optional where you want to have the page bar with action "buttons" so could be the same for the new tabs... are the tabs planned to be on depending if you choose the feature tiki tabs ? | [07:58] |

yeah, very subliminal ;) so tomorrow I will definitely do the backup-stuff... there is 50GB backup-space included in the package at Hetzner and I will use that for "off-site" backups... | [20:46] |
marclaporte | Dogfood (caugh caugh..) | [20:48] |

sounds like the dogfood doesn't taste too good ;) Caarrie|away: hi - well, the wikipage is named like that and it is a convenient name ;) marclaporte: I won't go playing with TRIM on the live setup, I'll test it out at home first to run into any risks... for now I just want to have some kind of backups ( and I have some simple scripts I can adapt for that) so that I can sleep well.. ;) ... mattbmc | So I thought getting tiki emails (registrations, page watches, etc) was straightforward, but I guess the last time I config'd it was in WAMPserver running on Windows. Now I'm running on Ubuntu....thre doesn't seem to be a direct way to configure PHP (a la php.ini) to use an existing mail server on the LAN....is this true? | [21:49] |
sylvieg | The only info I know about mail.. is there http://www.php.net/manual/en/mail.setup.php | [21:53] |
*** | marclaporte has joined #tikiwiki | [21:57] |
mattbmc | right...me too. as if I'm in an alternate universe, this seems to work logically if hosted on Windows.....quite backwards (or at least archaic....apparently using ESMPT only) under Unix.
(that's ESMTP.....sorry) | [21:58] |
*** | e-hb has joined #tikiwiki | [22:01] |
mattbmc | checking in ##php....seems inconceivable there isn't a way....but is sure is seeming that way so far | [22:08] |
Jyhem | matt: does your ubuntu actually have a local mail server which can send outgoin mail, or is it a fresh install ?
I seem to remember mine did not do that by default after installation First I needed to install exim, then reconfigure exim to tell it that no, I did not mean to configure it as a one-computer network :-) | [22:12] |
mattbmc | Jyhem: I actually do not want a mailer on the local system at all....another box is already a fully running SMTP/IMAP system with outbound capabilies.......I'm gleening from comments on here and ##php that this is just too much to ask from a *nix based installation.....which make me feel like I'm in Bazarro world
i.e. if I just moved to a Windows host this would be a <1min operation to set up, yet it's not even possible (apparently) on *nix. I'm obviously no guru, but that's just plain weird. | [22:15] |
Jyhem | apache just doesn't include MTA capabilities. It's a web-server. And PHP is a apache module | [22:17] |
mattbmc | see that link that silvieg sent.....it's a 2 or 3 line change in the php.ini file to make this work on a Windows host.
I guess that implies the Windows binary of PHP *does* have MTA capabilities, but the *nix one does not eh? | [22:18] |
Jyhem | I can't answer aout windows servers configs :-)rnIt also used to be simpler on unix ten years ago, when all unix machines came with a sendmail which allowed ingoing/outgoing mail and also open relays. Then unix admins got tired of being spam relays and now you have to open your MTA if your computer is meant to send mail. | [22:20] |
amette | mattbmc: good solution is to use something like nbsmtp or ssmtp - they emulate a sendmail interface on the local machine and do nothing else than move mail to the smarthost you have running on your network already - both only a couple hundred kilobytes big
( actually ssmtp didn't work for me with PHP - try nbsmtp ) | [22:30] |
mattbmc | amette.....thanks for the tip....will look into those....(tho requires more reading, researching, learning, complexity....I'm a tiki admin, not a unix admin and really only have time for one....many nice unix people out there, but unix itself is still not very nice) | [22:33] |
amette | just do # apt-get install nbsmtp
then enter the following lines into /etc/nbsmtprc: | [22:34] |
mattbmc | :) that narrows it down a little...will start with nbsmtp Honestly moving to a Windows host would probably take less time (if I had one)....and I hate Windows. | [22:35] |
amette | relayhost=my.mailmachine.on.my.network
fromaddr=root@my.nomail.machine.with.nbsmtp and you should be all set :) | [22:35] |
