R|SK: Guys, can somebody help me out on the perm system of titki?
<br> I'm especially confused about the catagory perms.
   cnd: users go into groups
<br> thinks like wiki pages go into categories
<br> groups get given permissions to do stuff to categories
<br> if you're using 2.2 - you've got to *regularaly* clear the cache - messing with categories *always* needs a cache clear to work
***: Caarrie|sleeping is now known as Caarrie
R|SK: Well, I've set up a test group, which can edit and view wiki pages.
<br> But if I want to view or edit a catgorized page, I am denied.
cnd: 1. clear the cache (bottom of the admin menu)
<br> 2. check that your user is actually in your "test" group
<br> 3. check that the "test" group has permission to do whatever you want in whatever category your chose
<br> 4. beware that if you've got 2 or more categories at once - the user will need permission in *all* categories, unless you switch that feature off in the settings.
R|SK: 4. May be a reason. Where can I disable this?
cnd: (by "2 or more" - I mean - if your wiki page you're trying to view/edit is in 2 or more categories at the same time)
R|SK: Ah ok, acatually, it's not
cnd: "must have perms in all" or some such thing that is - I'm not sure exactly which page - you might have to hunt around...
R|SK: The pages are only in one catagory.
cnd: If you're not logged in - then you're in the "Anonymous" category, btw. prolly not relevant to you I expect.
<br> What's the name of the category?
   R|SK: "Internet-/Online-Entwicklung"
***: navster has quit IRC (Read error: 113 (No route to host))
cnd: The page you're having problems with - Are you trying to view or edit it or both ?
   R|SK: Both.
cnd: You'll need to check that your page itself has not been given it's own individual permissions too I'd expect.
<br> The main thing - edit your category, and ensure that your "test" group is given "tiki_p_view_categorized" or whatever permission to that category.
R|SK: I've checked that. It doesn't have any page perms.
   cnd: (and edit etc)
R|SK: So, if I set up a new catagory, I must set up the perms too?
cnd: Yep - click on the green key icon.
R|SK: Aren't the global persm automatically set for those?
cnd: Yes - probably - but remeber that "perms in all" thing.
R|SK: Btw, is it normal, that in the category perms I' ve only two permission options?
   cnd: No.
   <br> clear cache.
<br> then the rest will come back.
   <br> "Tiki Cache/Sys Admin"
   <br> http://.../tiki-admin_system.php
R|SK: I can only choose from view catagories and admin categories. :-|
cnd: Clear the cache, otherwise your keyboard will leap up and slap you in the face.
   R|SK: :D
<br> Ahhhhhhh! Finally my options are back!!! :)
cnd: LOL - like I only mentioned the cache 6 times...
   <br> Good luck!
R|SK: Yes, but the problem was, that I've already resetted it - but noit for all handles.
cnd: yeah - I don't know what they all do - so I just zap each one in turn every time.
R|SK: I thought the last entry "all users prefs sessions" was for all listed above.
   ***: ricks99 has joined #tikiwiki
cnd: Might be worth asking someone with access to 2.2 to fix that so any changes to categories will automatically zap all the caches.
R|SK: Indeed, even the labels are a bit misleading.
cnd: v3 has some nice changes to how all this stuff looks - but I'm struggling to get v3 installed someplace still - been working at it for 3 days now. Grrrrr.
R|SK: Did you compile it on your own or is a precompiled version somewhere around?
cnd: php is intepreted - but yeah - I'm having to compile apache, php5, and a plethora of support crap to try and get it to run. My fave RedHat distro is PHP4 only, and my 2nd fave (SuSE 11) doesn't "do" some things v3 needs ("mbstring" stuff) - and the WYSIWYG editor doesn't work on SuSE11 either - not sure if it's the mbstring issue or not tho.
-: Caarrie hates redhat and suse
cnd: Caarrie - do you know any distro that v3 work on, "out of the box" - *including* the WYSIWYG editor ?
Caarrie: that i think is more a browser issue then server issue cnd i use kubuntu here but bet to ask around ;)
   <br> *best
cnd: "browser issue" ? Do you know any more about that?
<br> Obviously - I can't tell users to change browsers...
Caarrie: some browsers dont seen to work well with the editor
   <br> i dont know why
   cnd: Ie6 ?
Caarrie: have not used it in years
   ricks99: <u>fyi</u>: ie6 + tiki3.x works well on my local win setup.
cnd: What about the FSKEditor thingy (WYSIWYG) ?
ricks99: i have found the 3.x wysiwyg to b a great improvement (still not perfect, but much better)
cnd: Cool - so it work in IE6 - that's the main reason I'm trying to upgrade - I have lots of users - they need a better editor...
Caarrie: and a smarter browser :P
cnd: Don't get me started!! Took me a week to get IE6 to "play well" with all the other browsers out there. Bloody CSS margins/padding... but there's still XX% of users on IE6
   <br> (30% or 20% or something significant - I forget exctly)
<br> [i wrote my own theme...
ricks99: it works, y, but not 100% -- nowhere near as well as, say for instance, confluence
cnd: yeah - but anything I've found that doesn't work - and 10 mintes coding later, it's fixed for me. Or - more to the point - any feature I've needed - 10 mins coding later - it exists.
<br> There's a *lot* to be said for how Tiki all fits together, and can be easily improved...
R|SK: Is there any way TikiWiki can differentiate between Table head and body?
<br> I don't find anything in the syntax doc about it.
   ricks99: use FANCYTABLE plugin
<br> instead of regular table syntax
R|SK: Ok, I'll check on it.
