question: with tiki 3.0 svn from a couple of days ago i get a strange screen when deleting a forum topic / post
it just says as a 'title' press here to delete and then on the button the same ..
I would've expected it to show the actual post / theme title
i was wondering if that was only on the german translation
[08:50]
chibaguyLordVan, so you click the 'X', and then the page displays something like "click here to confirm your action" (this is English version) ? [08:53]
LordVanhmm i gotta check out german it seems odd ot me [08:54]
chibaguyAnyway, that's how it is in english to delete a post. On the confirm page, there's no post title, just the simple statement. [08:54]
LordVanok
i was just thinking post title would be nice to make sure one got correct item to del
[08:56]
chibaguyyeah, that makes sense. [08:57]
LordVani wonder how much work that would be - prolly not a lot
LordVan doesn'T know much about tiki code (yet)
[08:57]
chibaguyright, but at this stage of tiki 3, it's probably too late.
could go into trunk and either be in tiki 4 or else in a tiki 3.1 or so.
[08:58]
LordVanchibaguy, well as i said i duno .. it depends if at that stage it only got the post id or got more info and it woudl just be like 1 line to display the title ;) [08:59]
chibaguyyes, but the philosophy right now is only essential fixes for tiki 3. [09:00]
LordVanyeah i understand that of coruse ;) [09:00]
chibaguyTo remove a wiki page, you get a message like "Remove page: Sample_page". So the same could/should be done for posts, etc.
would be a little nicer/safer.

chibaguyyeah, was outside, earlier.
on another topic, I upgraded a site to current 3.0 svn and there is a "missing image" icon where the site logo should be.
[10:34]
vkumarwas it after the upgrade ? [10:36]
chibaguyThis doesn't usually happen when there's no logo. Maybe because the logo alt text and title are input on look and feel admin, but the logo img source isn't specified. [10:36]
CIA-46tikiwiki: 03sylvieg * r18560 10/branches/3.0/lib/tikilib.php: [FIX] use the same edist section icon [10:37]
chibaguyYes, I think if there is no logo image path indicated, and also no alt text or title, then there's no missing image icon up there.
(this is in opera, that I'm using now).
So I think if there's to be no logo on install, then also there should be no alt text or title text.
Of course this is an upgrade, not fresh install, so maybe I'm seeing the effects of what the site had earlier - I can't remember now what was input.
So anyway, maybe just something to keep an eye on.
chibaguy takes a deep breath ;-)
[10:37]
vkumarI have not tried an upgrade yet.. still using 2.3 [10:39]
chibaguyah ok. for live sites other than testing, I'm also using 2.3 or so.

[10:40]
vkumarI think, I also saw something which says jump to content when I was playing around with styles in the templates folder
i jumped out immedietly.. as i was looking for something else
[10:42]
chibaguyyes, that link is for better accessibility by screen readers, etc., and should not display visibly on the screen. [10:43]
vkumar:) [10:43]
chibaguyit should be hidden offscreen by css large negative margin. [10:43]
vkumarGary, I have a doubt here

chibaguyah, here's a likely problem for site upgrades to 3.0 : previously there was a tiki.tpl in templates/thenews/ . In 3.0, the default tiki.tpl is used of course, but...
...the site will use the /thenews/tiki.tpl instead unless is manually deleted.
worse, there's a header.tpl there also.
[11:45]
jonnybThe curse of style templates! [11:46]
chibaguyI was wondering why some strange appearance after upgrading a site that hadn't been touched in a while.
heh. true
[11:47]
jonnybhmmm, that's a nasty one - any other old styles still with us? darkroom?
i suppose we could add tpls that just include the right one - not great...
[11:47]
chibaguymaybe, I'll check. [11:51]

chibaguysimple theme, too. [11:53]
ricks99they work on my 2.x site. im able to remove tags with zero objects [11:54]
CIA-46tikiwiki: 03sylvieg * r18562 10/branches/3.0/lib/wiki-plugins/wikiplugin_trackerlist.php: notice [11:58]
chibaguyI think there needs to be docs on upgrading that say "to be safe, remove all old theme templates"....
or, at minimum, all old tiki.tpl and header.tpl files.
[12:02]
ricks99could we simply supply "blank" tpls? this way there's no need to rely on the user to actually do anything (much safer) [12:03]
chibaguyyeah, that'd work for known themes [12:03]
jonnybhmmm, sounds safest chibaguy [12:03]
chibaguyotoh, do you want to be distributing a bunch of blank files.
?
[12:03]
jonnybblank tpls sounds kludgy [12:04]
ricks99we're already distributing the file, right? this is just the 3.0 version of it
maybe kludgy, but (IMHO) *much* safer than adding a not in the docs
[12:04]
chibaguybut the idea was to reduce tpl files, even blank ones ;-) [12:04]
ricks99which templates are 'supported' for 3.0? only supply 'blanks' for those [12:05]
jonnybideally the installer should spot them, and make the user delete them [12:05]
ricks99... and delete them automatically [12:06]
chibaguyafaik, the installer doesn't touch the tpls.
or have awareness of them
[12:06]
jonnybi never like the words "delete" and "automatically" in the same sentance [12:06]
ricks99if we're relying on the use to do *anything*, it usually won't happen (just my $0.02) [12:06]
chibaguytrue, jonnyb, the user could be a sharp person who has his/her own 3.0compatible theme-specific tpls.
albeit misguided.... ;-)
[12:07]
jonnybboth true - but i would say adding a new feature like that would have to wait for 3.1 at least
docs in the meantime?
[12:08]
chibaguyyes
can't download 3.0 without checking the box marked "I will delete incompatible tpls."
[12:08]
jonnyb:) [12:08]
ricks99add to installer? [12:09]
chibaguythat would be good, if possible [12:09]
ricks99in the pre-req step, can we check for specific tpls? [12:09]
jonnybthe only ones are the defaults that have been removed in 3.0 right? [12:09]
ricks99fwiw, i think "blanking" the offending tpls is safest & lowest risk for 3.0
but your call
[12:09]
chibaguyI think that could be a problem because there isn't a finite list to check for. or a way to judge compatibility.
I don't think the downside is worth the kruft.
that is, the site probably won't break with old tpls, and the idea of having blank files in the distro really rubs me the wrong way (and probably a lot of people).
At the old site I just upgraded, the only problem immediately obvious is a white band across the top with the "jump to content" link showing.
(this is moved offscreen by inline css in the modern tpls)
[12:09]
jonnybi'd say it's one for the FAQ/readme on 3.0 and something more automagic in 3.1 [12:12]
chibaguy(inline ironically to avoid the problem of it displaying correctly if the stylesheet isn't used.) [12:13]
***KingAztech has quit IRC (Remote closed the connection) [12:13]
chibaguyjonnyb, I think so too. [12:13]
ricks99rick holds his tongue, but defers to the xperts [12:13]
chibaguyricks99, if the files caused white screens or something like that, I'd be inclined to go with the blank files.
But the effect seems to be relatively minor, so easy enough to fix after the fact.
[12:14]
ricks99i understand. for me, if it comes downto "pretty distro" vs. "ease for newbies", i always vote for newbies.
but as i said, i'll defer to ya'll
[12:15]
jonnyb3.0 has been in "feature freeze" mode for weeks, we really need to stop adding stuff to it one day (5 days after the release date seems a bit late!) [12:16]
chibaguywell, this is a problem for upgrades, not new installs, so hopefully they won't be too new "newbies"... [12:16]
ricks99y, thats why i thought blank tpl files would be low risk. there's already a header.tpl in svn, we're simply replacing the content.
'nuff said
[12:16]
chibaguycould be bad for cpanel installs, though, come to think of it.
But to make it newbie-safe we'd have to add blank tiki.tpls and header.tpls to thenews/, feb12/, darkroom/, tikinewt/, as well as whatever pre-tiki2 themes people might have installed (templates/x/ .
templates/styles/x
[12:16]
jonnybyes ricks99 - making "blank" tpls (they'd have to be "redirect" ones really, therefore klunky) would be ok in my view as a [FIX], but adding a funky "detect and delete" function to the installer would be a [NEW] imho
if it was a WSoD thing i'd say let's add them
[12:19]
ricks99y. installer upate for 3.x. [12:20]
jonnybif it's just occasional weirdness; add to docs [12:20]
chibaguyThis is the effect: http://alohaenglish.com/tiki-index.php
looks like just the jump-to link, and the bottom bar info is missing. Functionally of course there'll be other problems because of changes in header.tpl
(problems if jquery is tried, etc.)
[12:20]
jonnybi would say, as an upgrade that's not disastrous (seen worse! expecting worse on my 2.3 site!) [12:23]
ricks99*rick gazes into his crystal ball and sees 100s of forum questions: "How do I remove the Jump to Content" text
fwiw, my 1.10 -> 3.0 went very smoothly
[12:23]
jonnybhmmmm - tricky balance - a dozen or so silly redirecting files or 100s of support questions... [12:24]
chibaguyI'd go with one url with the faq, for those questions. [12:25]
ricks99again, i always tilt in favor of end-user usability [12:25]
jonnybwe could remove them in 3.x when the installer is more clever? [12:25]
chibaguydepends on how clever the installer can be, probably. [12:26]
jonnybnobody reads readmes & FAQs - i'm shifting towards stub files [12:26]

jonnybit could certainly say "your installation has these obsolete files from a previous version: shall i delete them for you? (customisations will be permanently lost etc etc)" [12:27]
ricks99im just saying... studies show that the *user* is *always* the weak-point. anything we can do to avoid necessitating their interaction is a plus (imho) [12:27]
chibaguythat'd be great, jonnyb.
well, then tiki has way too many points of interaction already. :-)
[12:29]
ricks99100% agree [12:30]
chibaguynew video camera has a "simple - normal" toggle for the menus.
big clunky switch next to the display
apparently what tiki should have on the install screen, eh?

chibaguywell, we can post this on the dev list and see what the consensus is.
I think people who install with ftp or on their own servers will be ok, as they have the tools. But upgrading with cpanel will be bad if people have no clue how to fix things after upgrading.
It'd be up to the hosting company support staff, and I don't know if there's a systematic way to inform these people or expect them to do it.

it says "Login as&"
