hoyla: Hi - I'm a tikiwiki v2.2 user and want to upgrade to 3.0. However I'm in Thailand, where bit.tv is barred, so I can't see the video at http://doc.tikiwiki.org/tiki-index.php?page=Upgrade+2.x+to+3.x&amp;bl=y . Is there upgrade documentation elsewhere or somewhere I can download the video from another source? Thanks
AAurAA: i got this error on apache log since the install of the server :'(
hoyla: P.S. I have already backed up files and database, and downloaded the full 3.0 package. (I'm not aware of a 2.2-to-3.0 upgrade package, if there is one.)
   chibaguy: <u>hoyla</u>: Can you visit http://doc.tikiwiki.org/tiki-index.php?page=Upgrade+2.x+to+3.x ?
<br> That has info about upgrading to 3.0.
<br> (There is no upgrade patch - you have to install the full package, btw.)
hoyla: Thanks chibaguy. I've been there but step 2 ("upgrade from 2.latest to 3.x") is the page I linked to above, which is (mostly) a video that I can't access from Thailand.
<br> Apologies - when I said bit.tv I meant blip.tv, which is the host for the video on the pages cited above...
chibaguy: ah, I see. I don't think you really need to see the video. The steps of the summary are probably enough info.
hoyla: Perhaps there's nothing on the video that I need to know ... would this be what I need to do: 1, overwrite the entire tikiwiki folder on my server; 2, replace the saved files (tw_attachments etc); 3, remove the db lock (presumably this is a recognisable file in the db folder...?); 4, Proceed step 4 from the page you cite...
<br> Ah, crossed wires ... I think I pretty much said what you recommend ... do you agree? (thanks again)
<br> Sorry to keep flooding with questions, but is it correct of me to think that the directory structure remains essentially the same? I.e. should my file directories etc be located in the same place under 3.0?
chibaguy: Yes. Overwrite old installation. Then go to tiki-install.php and click upgrade database - that's pretty much it.
hoyla: chibaguy You're a star. Thanks
chibaguy: Yes, the directory structure is the same.
hoyla: (Was mainly worried the video might have some important step that I'd otherwise not be aware of)
   <br> Cheers all
chibaguy: (but directories aren't identical - there may be a few new ones, and some of the old ones are now deprecated, depending on the old version)
<br> I just did a 1.9.2 to 3.0 upgrade, and it went smoothly.
<br> But most old themes aren't compatible any more, so the initial view could be a bit strange until the theme is changed.
   <br> (http://doc.tikiwiki.org/tiki-index.php?page=Upgrade+2.x+to+3.x#Step_5._Some_styles_changed)
hoyla: chibaguy Yep, I'm expecting to have to deal with the themes when I'm up and running.
AAurAA: i thinking about upgrading now ... walk round and round for one day pretty scare about making still worst than i already did ^^
hoyla: I can't see a lock file in the 3.0 db folder, so perhaps that's not necessary. Just to be sure, does the tiki-install.php script deal with updating database tables etc? i.e. do I not need to do anything with the SQL db beyond running that script?
chibaguy: <u>hoyla</u>: basically you need to either use a theme in the 3.0 package, or get a 3.0-compatible one from mods.tw.o, or adapt one yourself, I guess.
hoyla: Wilco. Thanks for the tip about the other 3.0 compatible ones. It'll need some work since I played about with the theme template that I used for 2.x
chibaguy: right, just click the upgrade button. (I think the lock is new - older versions don't have it.)
hoyla: You've been very helpful. Thank you.
chibaguy: sure, good luck. if any problems, just ask.
hoyla: I hope I won't have to take you up on that offer! ;-)
   chibaguy: :-)
   hoyla: Bye all
chibaguy: <u>AAurAA</u>: sorry, no ideas about your problem. :-(
AAurAA: i will try to post on the forum ive no one has a clue too i will deleted my installation and do it again in 3.0
   <br> Why meeee T_T ^^
<br> next thing to do learn to make clear sentences
chibaguy: <u>AAurAA</u>: you could also ask on the tikiwiki devel mailing list (http://sourceforge.net/mail/?group_id=64258)
<br> But Windows platform support isn't too strong, with most developers using linux.

<br> well, at least not from info,.tw.o, you are right
-: xavi will put the admin hat on and fix that....
   xavi: brrrr......
   tobi_h: well, it is...
<br> ...as in the link in that part where it says to join the ocmmunity
<br> ...but I am still trying to find it from the dev-site.
xavi: is it? I couldn't find the link in the horizontal bar where I could have expected to find it...
tobi_h: well, there it is not. :D
<br> it is in the content of the community part.
   <br> "joing the community"

<br> but i don't find it from the homepage of info.

tobi_h: oops. there are keywords?! wow.
<br> i just found them as i checked the source of dev. for uris with doc.tiki... - and there are keywords (linking to doc) on the bottom, which cannot be seen easily if you havent logged in for a while. :)
xavi: link added at info.tw.o horizontal menu.
tobi_h: ok, so i claim there is also no link to doc on dev.
xavi: ok, there I go also...
   tobi_h: yay! :)
grobda24: Is there any way I could run tikiwiki 3 in 16mb ?
xavi: <u>grobda24</u>: no way, afaik sorry
   grobda24: xavi, ok thanks
xavi: <u>tobi_h</u>: dev.tw.o menu is a wiki page... :-) feel free to add it whereever you would have expected to find it :-)
<br> either homepage or that menu page
tobi_h: good to know, but for now I'll be a bit careful with that... ;)
-: xavi takes the hat off
   xavi: ok :-)
-: xavi (as normal user "xavi", and not as "xavidp" admin) will add that link there... :-)
   xavi: on the side menu
   <br> added
<br> someone else might delete that bit/link if they find it annoying or whatever...
   <br> wikiway...
   tobi_h: cool, works.
<br> ok, now I'll think of a cunning way to put the questions I have in mind.
   xavi: <u>tobi_h</u>: great!
<br> and request whatever perms you need, if so
tobi_h: thanks, will do - brb, noodles need attention... ;)

   xavi: rodrigo_sampaio ?
   rodrigo_sampaio: hello xavi!
   xavi: hi rodrigo_sampaio :-)
   <br> one question for you
<br> in my current work at university, I'm dealing with a java applet
<br> and we'll need to have our users play with it (in some practical classes about physics)
<br> the applet writes a log of their activity, and we'll need to get all the log files from the students...
<br> I was wondering how difficult would be to "link" (sorry, don't know the technical part) somehow the applet with tiki, so taht we can use the user autentication from tiki to handle user names, emails, etc.
<br> and save the log files either in the server somehow (currently the jar application is writing in local)
<br> you did something similar with morcego, didn't you?
Caarrie: <u>xavi</u>: hav eyou looked into http://dev.tikiwiki.org/tiki-view_tracker_item.php?itemId=810&amp;trackerId=5 ? might help you a bit
   <br> *have you
xavi: so I thgouht that you could throw some tips on how to do that
   <br> <u>Caarrie</u>: thanks, looking...
   Caarrie: yw
xavi: <u>mmmm</u>: Caarrie: http://de.tikiwiki.org/files/tiki-pjirc-integrator.zip not found
<br> any idea where can I get that?
Caarrie: hold on let me see if i might have a copy somewhere
   xavi: <u>rodrigo_sampaio</u>: ? any tip?
<br> <u>rodrigo_sampaio</u>: from "my question for you"?
rodrigo_sampaio: <u>xavi</u>: sorry, I have got no clue
xavi: mmm, rodrigo_sampaio, wasn't it you who implemented the morcego wiki 3d browser in tiki 3?
rodrigo_sampaio: <u>xavi</u>: what I did with morcego was really simple and it didn't involve anything related with java
   <br> <u>xavi</u>: no, luis did
<br> <u>xavi</u>: i just updated the morcego version on tiki repository
xavi: ah, ok, thanks for the info rodrigo_sampaio
Caarrie: <u>xavi</u>: i dont seem to have a copy anymore
xavi: I?ll have a look at the tiki wiki 3d code, just in case
   <br> <u>Caarrie</u>: ok, thanks anyway...
tobi_h: <u>xavi</u>: re - yupp, asian style ramen is also nice - here we just had a case of plain old spagghetti. :)
xavi: I'll check at teh internet archive or google cache... you never know
Caarrie: there might be a copy in use on dev or doc tw.o
veei: getting an error when I enable external RSS on a wiki page. http://pastey.net/115721 xavi: I don't think it's the database. It was working. Last thing I remember doing before it broke was changing the max upload size to 100m in php.ini
xavi: <u>veei</u>: no idea myself, then. I was having problems (blank pages and timeouts) due to problems with fskopen (pear) in our server being blocked
rodrigo_sampaio: <u>xavi</u>: check first if morcego checks internally for a tiki session, i think that the user authentication is probably handled by tiki itself and not the java applet, but this is just a guess
xavi: but this is another story..., I guess
   <br> <u>rodrigo_sampaio</u>: thanks
   veei: really odd
Caarrie: that app has the login and such for the java applet only if we could find a copy of it
xavi: odd, but related to the way tiki gets the rss feeds
veei: well, i can live without rss feeds i guess. one more question.... could you point me to a page that might help me get SELinux to work with Samba?
Caarrie: <u>xavi</u>: i found it ;) hold on a sec and i will upload
   xavi: <u>Caarrie</u>: thanks
   <br> <u>veei</u>: no idea, sorry
   veei: selinux is killing me

   Caarrie: glad it helps ;)
xavi: mmm, do you know that carrie.org returns blank page?
   Caarrie: yes
xavi: maybe intentioanl... it was just curiosity ;-)
Caarrie: i have no "home page"
   xavi: :-)
Caarrie: i have not made time int he last 6 months to make a homepage

   ***: Lucymoz has joined #tikiwiki
Caarrie: <u>xavi</u>: anyone that can upload that zip to *.tw.o so it does not get lost again?
xavi: <u>Caarrie</u>: to a file gallery maybe?
Caarrie: not sure i have not looked into tw in a while
xavi: there should be a miscellanous one or similar...
<br> or attached to some wiki page related to that
<br> http://tikiwiki.org/Irc might be a good candidate to hold that attachment, isn't it?
   Caarrie: i guess
   xavi: there I go then
   <br> done :-)
   Caarrie: thanks
tobi_h: <u>xavi</u>: interested in new FAQ items I'd have to offer? ;)
xavi: can't you add them yourself?
<br> well, through them here first, if you wish
<br> <u>tobi_h</u>: why not adding them in the current http://doc.tikiwiki.org/ebm ?
tobi_h: I'd rather have them reviewed first...
xavi: welcome on board, if you wish,
<br> ebm = Editorial Board meetings
   <br> for doc.tw.o
<br> this way, they'll be reviewed
   tobi_h: ...and can't update them myself - yet. ;)
xavi: or at least, they'll have a chance to get reviewed by some more eyes...
<br> ok, tobi_h, why not adding to motions to the current ebm?
tobi_h: when would they be happening?
xavi: (1) add this a that faq (your suggestions)
<br> (2) provide the perms to the "doc.tw.o_contributors" group to add faqs
<br> and I don't remember the official procedure (if any) to add a user to the doc_contributors group, but I'll add you there very quickly, if (2) is a passed motion :-)
<br> and in case there is no an explicit way to do things better in another way ( I doubt so)
tobi_h: well, thanks for the confidence, but currently I can't promise to keep my interest in TW as hot as I'd like to...
xavi: you don't have to keep that...
<br> you just want to add some things nowadays to the doc.tw.o faqs
   tobi_h: true. :)
xavi: and you are requesting some more eyes to revise them
<br> so the right place for that is the ebm pages
<br> not obligation to stay there (at the ebm) for ever
<br> you want to participate now, welcome!
   tobi_h: brb - i'll check them out.
   <br> ;)
xavi: you can't participate any more at any time, welcome again, and thanks for your participation when you could do so :-)
<br> s/welcome again/thanks for your work up to that moment
tobi_h: ok, i guess, i get it - the meeting is taking place until end of month?
<br> so, if i add a new motion - is it clever to put all three additions i have for the FAQs in one motion, or do i better split them?
<br> http://pastey.net/115795 gives an idea of what i talk about.
   xavi: <u>tobi_h</u>: great
<br> for me, I would say, go ahead and add them, but it's not only about me. so I would suggest to add the three of them splitted in three motions
<br> I guess nobody wil have any problem with any them, but as a regular procedure...
<br> ... you'd better have them splitted, so that people might say hey, this is repeated, don't add that; but the other 2 are ok (or similar)
<br> so yes, welcome on board :-)
   <br> to the ebm
<br> <u>Caarrie</u>: do you know a bit of java?
   Caarrie: nope
   xavi: oups, ok, thanks
<br> just in case any other coder knows the tip I need....
   <br> i'll post it here...
<br> I see from tiki-pijrc integrator stuff, and from tiki wiki3d (tpl files) that they call to some java class that neds to be available somewhere, I guess
<br> but the jar applet should have everything inside, for what I understand is an applet...
<br> so I don't get why this class reference is needed in the "code=" param inside the &lt;applet&gt; tags
   <br> example, from tiki-wiki3d.tpl:
   <br> &lt;applet codebase="./lib/wiki3d" archive="morcego-0.6.0.jar" code="br.arca.morcego.Morcego" width="{$prefs.wiki_3d_width}" height="{$prefs.wiki_3d_height}"&gt;
<br> this code="br.arca.morcego.Morcego" is referencing some java class (I guess) that it exists there
<br> I guess I have to add some class somewhere... but I don't know which class and where...
<br> for the rest the copy&amp;paste seemed to work fine in a local tiki 2.4
<br> <u>rodrigo_sampaio</u>: could you redirect this question to luis?
   <br> ^^
rodrigo_sampaio: <u>xavi</u>: luis is not here at the moment
<br> <u>xavi</u>: I think it is better if you send him an email
   xavi: ok, thanks
<br> I will, if I can't find the answer on my own right now
-: xavi is googling a bit on that
