Sug4r'memory_limit' could be the most frequently asked question about trouble getting blank pages. The PHP memory_limit should be >= 16M (see your php.ini). You can check it with <?php echo ini_get('memory_limit'); ?> and read more at http://doc.tikiwiki.org/tiki-index.php?page=Requirements+and+Setup&bl#PHP [02:05]

chibaguycoaboa: Seems to me it was ok when the theme was being developed. The overlap at themes.tw.o may be due to the row of links at the top of the header that pushes down the div that holds the logo, etc.
Anyway, I suggest you use the log-in module for now, in a side column, and turn off the site header login form.
I'm not sure how soon I can fix that form.

yohomerluciash: hi; yes, Admin home -> Module has the configuration "Users can configure modules" [13:59]
luciashyohomer: and when they go to tiki-my_tiki.php do they see modules section ? [14:00]
chibaguyIt's strange because you can see at http://zukakakina.com/tiki-index.php (change the theme to Milkyway) that the form is visible in IE8. It's positioned absolutely, so shouldn't move, and there's nothing that has a background that would cover it up. [14:00]
coaboacan I display the login modul only if IE or Maxton is detected and @ same time switch of the loginbar? If Y please tell me how ;-) THX in advance [14:01]

chibaguyI don't know if it's possible to display a module based on browser, and don't think it's worth the effort to figure it out. Why not just display the module to all browsers? [14:05]
yohomerunless also feature_modulecontrols is set by Admin home -> Module [14:05]
luciashtiki_p_configure_modules is what your users group needs
then on tiki-admin.php?page=module "Users can configure modules."

yohomeryes; but in my experience, that's good in theory only, not in practice :( [14:10]

coaboaSo I'lll swicch theme for IE browsers. Hoped that I could avoid that because of consistency. thx. [14:10]

chibaguyah, the management. [14:12]
luciashyohomer: it worked last time i checked
coaboa: you can use your own custom login form btw
just copy and paste the code of the login box in your custom header code
[14:12]
chibaguycoaboa, I'll try to fix that form for ie8, but I can't get to it for at least a week or two. [14:13]

hrsmstiki_objects holds IDs for file galleries, but the only one listed is my gallery C [16:34]
coaboachibaguy: it works on all browsers, is very lightweighted, supports barrier free and rtl realy flexible. so mainly the modular approach which makes creation/modification of ccs multicolumn screen layouts easier. strugeling always with compatibility issues and using yaml could help there a lot.
Or a similar framework if there is something comparable. But I'm not aware of somthingcomparable.
[16:39]
chibaguyI'm curious to see the results with yaml and tikiwiki.
I'm not sure how yaml will mesh with the divs, etc. produced by tiki's templates, but it would be interesting to try.
[16:40]
hrsmstiki_stats refers to object "0?" which is of type "file gallery" four different times. I presume these are four different days, and object "0?" is the system gallery. So, no insight gained here. [16:42]
chibaguyIf yaml can work with other cms's, which produce their own css classes from templates, it should be able to work with tikiwiki too. [16:43]
coaboaChibaguy: If there are yaml-integration projects out for all major cms/groupware solutions it must have some advantages @least ;-) [16:43]
chibaguyyes, it seems so. [16:44]
coaboaim not propagating it just searching for a flexible solution which solves the IE pain in the a....;-) [16:45]
hrsmsI guess I'm giving up. If anyone has a flash of insight in the near future - please post here: http://tikiwiki.org/tiki-view_forum_thread.php?comments_parentId=36199&topics_offset=1&topics_sort_mode=lastPost_desc&forumId=4 [16:46]

chibaguySure, coaboa. On the other hand, I'm not sure if it's necessary to move to a whole framework to deal with some IE problems. Of course if it has other advantages too, then it might be worthwhile. [16:48]
luciashcoaboa: i just wonder why you think Tiki doesn't have it already [16:48]
chibaguyFor Tiki's stylesheets, it might be possible to just look at other solutions for IE and adapt them, if better than the way Tiki handles IE now. [16:49]
luciashcoaboa: *lite does basically the same (flexible solution which solves the IE pain, etc.) [16:49]
chibaguyIf it's the higher-level problems like the login form not displaying in MilkyWay, there is probably a simpler solution than starting from zero. [16:50]
luciashchibaguy: the higher-level problems are not matter of the layout framework [16:50]
chibaguythat's right, luciash. that was my intended meaning. [16:51]
luciash:) [16:51]
chibaguyexcept i just read yaml has some rules to solve ie problems.
I don't know on what level these are.
[16:51]
luciashalso i wonder how yaml woul come with non-breakable content in center column or small screen in IE6
s/woul come/would cope/
or switching columns on/off on the fly as we already have
or fixed-width themes

SEWilco2Oh, goodie. I'm using the "Fluid Index" theme (the only one with distinctive blockquote style), so Amazon ads on some pages are about fluid-related books. :-)
(At least that's better than several weeks ago... after my article about red/green discussion feedback cards, I was getting immigration/"green card" ads)
[17:03]
ricks99@SEWilco2: not sure about amazon ads, but for my Google ads, I can specify *only* to use the content area for content-specific ads [17:07]

maybe later i will look at it

hrsmsricks99: Thanks for your earlier help. Back to clearing the cache. I wasn't paying attention to the results. Looking closer, it looks like my action had no effect on the cache. Folder/file permission problem? What level of permission is needed? On a shared server, if that matters. Currently temp=0777, tempcache=0775, within tempcache I found a file fgals_[long hex number] with 0644. This file seems to have all the old ga [19:15]
ricks99tiki usually need 775 on all directories in order to read/write. can u cahnge fgals_* to 0775
sounds like it may be the issue
[19:16]
hrsmsfgals is a file. Also needs 0775?
You think for shared server tempcache needs to be 0777? I wonder why temp is 0777 and tempcache is 0775.
[19:17]
ricks99777 is good too [19:19]
hrsmsI tried setting tempcache to 0777 and running "Clear all Tiki caches" again. That resolved everything. Security issues are not clear to me. Is this safe? [19:20]
ricks99well, 777 means that it is fully writeable (to anyone) [19:21]
hrsmswhich does not sound good... [19:21]
ricks99775 is "safer" in that it is writeable only to the app (i think... anyone else chime in who knows *nix perms better)
r u on a shared host?
[19:22]
hrsmsyes [19:22]
ricks99they may have additional security in place, too
fwiw, ive run many sites with 777 and/or 775 and not had issues
there is some folder security setting info in the installation and setup docs
[19:22]
hrsmsCan you provide a link, or shall I be less lazy and go search? [19:24]
ricks99doc.tikiwiki.org one of the menu options is 'installation'
or "setup' or something similar
one sec...
doc.tikiwiki.org/installation
duh ;-)
[19:25]
hrsmsAt any rate, I seem to have no choice. The cache does not seem to work without 0777. I wonder how the cached info got there in the first place? There were some problems on the server end, and I suspect that the host admin ran something that reset a bunch of file perms. I'm transistioning a site I created with notepad/MySQL and later an embedded G2 gallery. About the same time the G2 gallery stopped working, and I'm sure that
So, I think it was 0777 when I installed and the host admin, directly or indirectly, changed the permission level.
[19:26]
ricks99777 will definately work [19:27]
hrsmsIn case I wasn't clear - the old site I created by hand (with exception of the embedded G2) is being abandoned in favor of using tiki.... though not without a lot of growing pains [19:28]
ricks99see: doc.tikiwiki.org/install+by+ftp step 4 discussions folder persm [19:29]
.... (idle for 15mn)
hrsmsThat site suggest 0775. Some searching reveals that many hosts don't allow 777. To be safe, I've set the perms backt o 0775. I'll contact my host and see what's going on. I take it (not knowledgeable about this) it has something to do with Apache running as "nobody". Thanks for your time... [19:44]
luciash777 is necessary if you cannot set group to be the same as webserver
mostly apache or www-data
if your user shares the same group as the webserver then it's better to set 775
[19:44]
hrsmsSorry. Don't really understand that (exact defintion of and relationship betwen user, group, webserver). Maybe I'm in over my head. I don't blame you if you don't want to explain. I'll go Googling. [19:47]
***Lucymoz has joined #tikiwiki [19:51]
ricks99775 should b fine [19:53]
hrsmsIt doesn't appear so. It appears that "the system" is running as "nobody" and therefore it cannot write to this folder. Maybe it will run OK but just without cached data (slower)?
Don't know if there are more critical folders it needs to write to.
[19:55]
***Bilal has quit IRC (Quit: Page closed) [19:58]
ricks99did u try as 777 [20:01]
hrsmsYeah, yeah. That's what fixed it. Cache was cleared after I set to 777. And I only saw the galleries I expected to see. I think my site was moved to another server and the perms got reset. They must have been 777 to begin with. Can't remember. The install may have prompted me to set that on certain folders.
Thanks again for your time. At least I finally found the problem. Now it's between me and my host. Speaking of which - they usually aren't very helpful, and I'm thinking of switching. Can anyone recommend a shared host with helpful support staff?
[20:02]
luciashwell 777 means "everybody who successfully logs in into the same machine" so it's not like anybody on internet can do that
so it is relatively "secure" to live with that
afaik
sorry, i don't know any cause mostly i fugure things myself :-p

yohomerI'd appreciate if anybody with 4.1 could test/confirm this with me ... load http://culturesofharmony.net/tiki-objectpermissions.php .... select only the "User" feature .... noting that "Show permissions for disabled features" is UNchecked .... tiki_p_configure_module does NOT appear UNLESS "Show permissions for disabled features" IS checked.
I think this points to something wrong; I don't know for sure about that; but I do know that tiki-user_assigned_modules.php dies with "You do not have permission to use this feature" apparently due to IT being unable to verify tiki_p_configure_modules which is in fact set for Registered+ groups.
This testimony is offered as a suggested bug report. Maybe I'll register and figure out how to check for its preexistence in the tracker, or how to add it if not.
Thank you.

also, with this configuration, "Modules" does appear in the MyTiki menu, but not in tiki-my_tiki.php
selecting the menu option (loading tiki-user_assigned_modules.php) dies with the error above.
Setting feature_modulecontrols ("Show module controls") causes this feature to work properly .... for Adminstrator only.
