chibaguy | I can't find what the "Wiki actions bar" option does, on the wiki admin page. Toggling it doesn't seem to do anything. Searching for its preference name doesn't turn up anything in tiki-show_page.tpl or tiki-topline.tpl.
The icons are controlled by "Wiki top line location" and the edit link/buttons, etc. are controlled by "Wiki buttons". Is this wiki admin option a functionless artifact? Or is my test site missing something? (looking at branch 5 site) | [06:00]
Started investigating because I couldn't keep track of the differences between Wiki action bar, Wiki navigation bar, Wiki top line, and Wiki buttons (all wiki admin options listed together).
I think some explanations are needed next to the items. I'll add some small text for each. | [06:09]
Related question: Putting the Wiki buttons at the top of the page also moves comments to the top. Was this always the case? Or should it be? Seems like comments should always be at the page bottom....
...or that it should be possible to move the buttons up but not move up the comments. well, maybe I'm wrong about that, and comments at top are ok. but that's unconventional, so I think it'd be good if the buttons and comments could be controlled separately. chibaguy imagines the reaction to "Comments location: top|bottom".... chibaguy imagines new user thinking, wow, tiki really does have 1000 settings.... :-) ...some dubious | [06:16]

chibaguy | Q. Why are there so few people answering questions in Tiki's forums?
A: One factor is that Tiki is a more complex program than most, and the questions tend to be harder to answer (i.e., fewer people have the knowledge, and the ones who do are busy adding to the complexity | [11:49]
ricks99 | A: because 75% of the Qs are already answered in the docs, the other 25% are very site-specific and posters usually do not provide enough info | [11:50]

jonnyb | although from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Net_present_value it looks like you have your array index mixed up with the "t" variable (where is "t"?) | [12:07]

So that's why I feel it's better in trunk But it's great to backport if you feel it should be | [15:19]
jonnyb | but aren't there a load of bugs in 5.0 to fix? Or are they all ok in 5.x now?
if i fix stuff in 5.x and robertp changes stuff in trunk we'll get a split (i won't have time to backport/manual merge everything) | [15:21]
marclaporte | My feeling is that 5.x is good enough, and I prefer that we have the liberty of trunk.
perhaps surgical backports to 5.x? | [15:25]
jonnyb | ok, will do... | [15:25]

chealer | jonnyb: what is that supposed to do, limit objects displayed to those in all specified categories? | [18:06]
jonnyb | well exactly - those are categories not involved in the jailroot thing | [18:07]

chealer | jonnyb: so how does it work when there are several jailroots? which one is the perspective's root category? | [18:28]
jonnyb | all of them - well, they're all on the "top" level | [18:28]
basically (to me) it means if you use categories for perspectives you sort of can't use it for anything else | [18:37]
chealer | jonnyb: OK, so if you have a perspective with a category jail set to category 1 and you add category 2 to the category jail, you're only adding objects to those that will be displayed, right? | [18:38]
jonnyb | as far as i understand it | [18:38]
chealer | jonnyb: OK, I think I understand your mail | [18:38]
jonnyb | can you do a reply explaining how you worked out what i meant? might help others ;)
maybe it needs something like a way of ignoring categs that aren't "in" any jailroot cats at all | [18:39]
chealer | jonnyb: what does that mean: if not, then listing one of the Types, say Course notes, brings up the pages for all three perspectives (or none at all, depending on object type)
if you're in a perspective, the course notes in your perspective's category should display, shouldn't it? | [18:42]
jonnyb | yes, but if you list "course notes" cater you either get all of them, or none
you should get just the stuff that's also in your jailroot i think | [18:57]
chealer | jonnyb: right
jonnyb: so that's just a bug, no? | [18:57]
jonnyb | well, it's "existing behaviour" - and you know tiki ;)
i thought i though check before trying to "fix" it also, it's really difficult, so i was hoping someone else would come up with a nice, clean solution (and do it) robertp: you were asking about changing the CSS in your tiki - a good place to start is http://themes.tikiwiki.org/CSS | [19:00]
robertp | I found it | [19:02]
chealer | jonnyb: IMO, that and "if someone in a department perspective edits and saves a page, it will no longer be categorised as Course notes." are simply bugs | [19:02]
robertp | I was looking for a clean way to integrate my skin w/ jqui | [19:02]
jonnyb | robertp: i guess making a custom.css in the styles subdir you are using
exacto | [19:02] | |
chealer | I don't see a solution other than finding what's going wrong and fixing it. | [19:04]
jonnyb | i got more or less there then went on my travels - will need to find it again
somewhere in categlib i think $categlib->getSqlJoin() - line 1284 in trunk i think it should be something to do with the $categId['AND'] line, which _appears_ to be unused, but it seems to do the "blending" in the wrong order | [19:04]

but wasn't clear either what the section does - so he defaulted to safe | [19:15]

sylvieg | which commit are refering? | [19:21]
jonnyb | it was a very long time ago - i couldn't find the exact commit
but it's $categlib->getSqlJoin() - line 1284 in trunk specifically the block after "if (isset( $categId['AND'] )" (line 1294) | [19:23]
sylvieg | but what AND has something to do with your problem? | [19:25]
jonnyb | the AND bit doesn't seem to be used anywhere, so should be safe to change, but the cater searches when jailrooted would need changing
the categs in the 'AND' bit can be outside a user's jail (i think) as long as it's categorised in _one_ of my jails, i should be able to see it, no? at the moment it has to be in all so maybe i mean 'OR', rather than 'AND' (but AND my jails) jonnyb knows he isn't good at this stuff | [19:26]
sylvieg | but where do the jail receive and array with anAND?
the OR should be done with a list od categId? | [19:29]
jonnyb | i doesn't currently, which is why you can't have shared/common categs | [19:30]
sylvieg | so it is get_jail that must be corrected? | [19:30]
jonnyb | could be
but that's probably used elsewhere for other reasons | [19:31]
sylvieg | did you see in tikilib // if jail is zero, we should allow non-categorized objects to be seen as well, i.e. consider as no jail
it means that ??? if jail is not zero ... who do not allow other categ? | [19:33]

jonnyb | sorry - back (door) | [19:37]
sylvieg | the object must be in the jailed category and the descendants or the object must not be in other jailed categories | [19:38]
jonnyb | sylvieg: i was trying to get articles to do jailed stuff properly (can't recall exact path - list_articles() probably)
yes, which means you have to duplicate all your common categories for each perspective (and tiki grinds to a halt eventually) also the category picker becomes unusable | [19:38]
sylvieg | can you do a perspecitive with n categories | [19:40]
jonnyb | yes | [19:40] | |
sylvieg | because if you can do a perspective like A , current categs
in your case Physics, Type .. ok but we wil see the other ... sorry | [19:40]
chealer | I don't understand what that means: the object must be in the jailed category and the descendants or the object must not be in other jailed categories | [19:42]
jonnyb | but then physics persp can see all Type categorised object (even for other persps) | [19:42]
sylvieg | yes jonnyb - I got it | [19:42]
jonnyb | so i thought that 'AND' section might be a good place to do it | [19:43]
sylvieg | sylvieg needs a test to see | [19:44]
jonnyb | or maybe (better) fix get_jailed so it doesn't filter out categs (or descendants of) which aren't in a jailroot (or descendants) - messy | [19:44]
