dcedilotte: I have a client using Tiki 3.8. They assign usernames to their customers that start with a capital letter (for ex: Daniel). If a user clicks on "I forgot my password", and they enter their username in small caps (ie: daniel), they receive the reset message correctly but their username is not in the email. If the user puts the username with the capital letter, everything is fine. Just wondering if it's a known issue or not.

I got it, but can someone please tell me what the default value is for the data in a user module? Is it NULL or an empty string?
I can't find out through testing because the user module page is hung up. It's a bug apparantly.
If you follow the documentation to create a user module for a random poll, the page will be blank evertime you go back to admin modules.
The documentation says to put {poll} in there for a random poll, which apparantly hangs it.

reason: switching back and forth between the editors removes spaces, formatting etc.

jonnyb_: yes, sounds like a good idea - with html the convertion is always slightly descrictive (still)
destructive
coaboa: in this way wysiwig could be standard editor for eg registered and editors could have the permission to do "advanced stuff" without the need to implement everything possible into the wysiwig editor. backdraw would be once edite with non-wysiwig a page couldn't edited with the wysiwyg unless inventing a {wysiwig}{/wysiwig} tag or something like that

nkoth: jonnyb: oh I see , for people switching editors
ricks99: if u want to use invalid, it should be "invalidate"
but really, the account isn't "invalid", it has just been temporarily suspended
jonnyb_: nkoth: yes - and until i added the paragraph formatting parse option they were getting mixed up sometimes
ricks99: fwiw, "suspend" or "lock" is what other (e.g., yahoo!) sites use
nkoth: jonnyb: ok paragraph formatting parse option - is that only in rc?
mabe I am out of date on this site
jonnyb_: it's an option for $tikilib->parse_data()
in code, not a pref
chealer: ricks99: I agree these 2 are good choices. the advantage of invalidate is the association with the "Validate" terminology the admin will see to unlock the account, unless we do some more interface work
ricks99: y, but... tiki "validates" accounts by email. imho, invalidate means (to me, anyway) that the email is no longer correct
if u want to say with valid, then use "invalidate" -- "invalid" is incorrect english grammar
sylvieg: suspend is a good word

sylvieg: no the account is not disabled
I notices that too
I do not know if it is a feature?
but you can not log-in
it is onl;y not shown as disabled
chealer: I only tested on trunk, someone else could try maybe 3
sylvieg: here I can login - with the right password
sylvieg: so the new option introduces a limit to the login attemps allowed before admin had to [re-]validate the account, and the old one was a limit to the login attemps allowed before the user has to [re-]validate his account?

buit no for the old one - the account is not locked - only an email is sent...
chealer: sylvieg: what's the email's purpose?
(I didn't get it because it tried sending to the wrong address - another bug)
sylvieg: to propose you to change apssword...
I am sorry chealer this feature was there before I was in tiki
chealer: sylvieg: does that make any sense? the logic would be users don't really care about their password, but if they're told they're under attack they'll pick a reasonable password?

good question chealer and I have no answer
it is why I developped the second feature... at least it is really desactivated

chealer: sylvieg: so what the person which reaches the limit is not the owner of the account? neither the user nor admins are noticed that the account is disabled?
s/so what/so what if/
sylvieg: for now yes
execept that the user will have an account desactivated whan log-in and the admin will see a validation button in admin->users
CIA-79: tikiwiki: 03nkoth * r30717 10/trunk/lib/tikilib.php: [FIX] When shift-enter is used to leave a line in the wysiwyg editor, the parser did not identify it as HTML and therefore started a new paragraph messing up the layout
chealer: sylvieg: could you give an exact description of what must be put in the preference field?

chealer: sylvieg: is "Do not send email" meant to be a warning?
is there a mechanism so that admin accounts cannot be disabled? IOW, is a DOS forcing a recovery from the database possible if that feature is enabled?

Launch: Hello
I have a few questions about TikiWiki
Anyone alive in here?
ricks99: depends on what your questions are...
Launch: Ok, Hi
I am looking to create a system for all the teachers in a school district
they would need to edit their own pages
upload their own files so students can download them
and create calendars for the classes they teach
would tiki be good for something like that?
ricks99: sounds like it. teacher pages = wiki pages. Tiki supports multiple file galleries and multiple calendars, too.
I suggest reviewing the feature docs to get more inf (doc.tiki.org)
***: kiilo has joined #tikiwiki
Launch: really, that is cool, could they organize their files into folders?
ok ill look at that...
ricks99: Yes. File galleries can contain "sub" galliers (i.e., folders).
See docs for details: http://doc.tiki.org/file+gallery
Launch: thanks!
ricks99: you're welcome
Launch: how hard is it tiki to use? Many of these teachers barley have enough time to get their work done as it is, will they need a lot of training?
barely rather
ricks99: Like everything else... "it depends." Tiki is extreemly powerful & flexible, so the Admin might have a learning curve. End-users will vary, depnding on how well thought-out and organized the site is.
Launch: thanks for your time
ricks99: You can "test-drive" Tiki online:
http://tiki.org/demo
jonnyb_: Launch: you can use webdav (with a bit of setting up) so they can organise files using the desktop/finder
ricks99: ah, good point... hadn't even thought of webdv
Launch: I am installing it now
ricks99: new/imporved addition in Tiki 6
jonnyb_: seems to work much better in 6
Launch: 25mb is a lot of data
jonnyb_: compared to what, Launch? ;)
ricks99: Depends what you compare it to
Launch: true
jonnyb_: :))
ricks99: lol @ jonnyb :-)
jonnyb_: you get used to it
-: jonnyb_ just spent most of the day svn switching one single tiki
ricks99 spent most of his day getting his ricksapir.com online -- finally :-)
jonnyb_: looking good :)

tsago: I am using ver 5.2 I have the problem where pdf files are served blank. I am attempted to solve the problem by changing to 'store in directory', but no luck getting that to work. I am looking at the troubleshooting page and am reading the instructions to force the database connection to utf8. Is this the other way to fix my problem?
chealer: sylvieg: apparently you're the one who introduced unsuccessful_logins (see http://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/tikiwiki/changeset/8397 )
sylvieg: no it was there before
chealer: sylvieg: so what is r8397 about?
***: ricks99 has joined #tikiwiki
luciash: sylvieg & chealer : i don't know what it does now or doesn't exactly but this is how it should work imho: when the limit is reached (20 attempts by default) it should send the message to the account owner (and eventually to the admin) and disable further login attempts from the IP... anyway user can easily re-validate the account via the link in the mail so it is not a serious issue imho if it gets invalidated anyway
sylvieg: ok seems it was me .. but 2007 - I do not remeber
it is the problem when you do not write doc
luciash: np sylvie :)
chealer: luciash: that looks reasonable (but that's not what it does now)
sylvieg: OK, so if the feature is unclear and the author doesn't understand it, would you object to removing it?
sylvieg: which one?
chealer: sylvieg: the old one from r8397
sylvieg: no
because the new one is not finished
did I commit in 6?
chealer: sylvieg: sorry, you wouldn't object to removing it, or you're not for removing the old one because the new one is not finished?
sylvieg: the new one was committed in trunk (but there's no indication it's incomplete...)
sylvieg: chealer do whatever you want
chealer: sylvieg: thanks
sylvieg: but you need to build something
not to rollback
chealer: does anyone else think preference "Re-validate user by email after n unsuccessful login attempts" should not be removed?
sylvieg: for me there is 2 features
chealer: sylvieg: so what do I need to build? nobody seems to understand what the option is supposed to do.
sylvieg: ok time for documentation
-: ricks99 thinks the pref should be: "Suspend user account after ## unsuccessful login attempts"
tsago: Using ver 5.2. After changing to store files in directory and editing the new directory permissions I get an upload file error of "Cannot write to this file:/files/35849492a53327c1f3e2f4589f81c6dd" Host support says all permissions are correct and should allow read/write by apache. Any suggestions on where to go from here?
ricks99: what are the permissions of the ../files/ directory?
tsago: 755 dir
i also tried 777
the file name i was attempting to upload was 2093_1246936282.jpg

ricks99: on the admin: file gallery page, where you added the "files" directory, did you uncliude the trailig slash?
... did you inlucde the trailing slash...
tsago: path is /files/
ricks99: should be files/
no need for first slash
is "files" inside your <tiki home> >"
chealer: bbl
tsago: ok, i could have sworn i tried that before with no luck but it seems to be working now. i'm tellin ya..... some days!
thanks for the help, i appreciate it
