My point is that having longer strings might be better because short strings can have different meanings in different contexts and the order they appear in other languages my be different from the order in English.

chealer: the impressions I have from reading best practices from other projects (gettext and wordpress) is that we should avoid as much as possible short strings

luciash: tr() calls tra() internally. lp created tr() to support placeholders (actually tra() support them but as the fourth parameter).
