sylvieg? I'm having some progress with the newsletter batch sending for intercanvis.net (proposals/6x)
I changed the way to control the batch sending, to the same way the "daily reports" batch had, and I managed to get emails sent based on the cron on that server for the subscribers to that edition of newsletter
however, the email sent has no content, except for the unsubscribe line
so it looks to me that something might be missing from that file tiki-batch_send_newsletter.php to successfully re-send the content of the newsletter edition

and it's kind of a must to have this working for production sites where hundreds of users are "watching" (user or group watches) events
looking at the code, it doesn't look complicated
in such case, tiki becomes slow (for end users): a user adds an event to a calendar, o a tracker item, etc. and suddenly, tiki becomes froxen for 30-60 seconds (while tiki sends emails for all hundreds of subscribers)

look in tiki-batch_send_newsletter.php, there is a place to set a log file name

moodle sites have that solved since many years ago: emails are sent every half an hour or so in batch (afaik)

well, our use case is a low budget one, on shared hosting (intercanvis.net, for barter networks, on a server which accepts comunity currency for half the expenses)
anyway, queing mail has been a feature request for a while
so, I'd like to explore the email sending based on a "cron job" : either feature "Daily reports", or "Newsleters sent based on a cron job" with a wiki page template containing the relevant info (like since last visit, etc)
queing email: for middle sized sites, it's a must (1000 users, 200+ subscribers with "user watches" on same common objects)
middle/big/whatever (that size, as a reference)
the mail sending in tiki needs a cleanup anyway
unfortunately I don't have time to do it myself, I can help  share to pay someone to do it probably
well, step by step. one important step would be to fix current features which might serve that purpose (low hanging fruit): daily reports and/or newsletter on cron job
log file just contains the emails of subscribers and a message that the email was sent ok
