hi kreditkid, I know two ways - a) the bannersystem itself, where you can configure, at what days and times they appeare in wich zone and b) using a module "random image", where you can show images from file galleries randomly - with b) I am not sure right now, if you could assign links to the individual images

Random image is "just" random image (from an image gallery). :)
is there any way to program several banners to run in one spot, but to randomly select a banner every time the page is accessed or refreshed?
About the banners you can also configure, by max click, by max impression, timed. Several banners put in the same zone will appears randomally. 
oh, so when i set the banner zone to "top" or "right" or whatever, if I have several banners set to that zone then it will display them at random?
kreditkid: yes this is what i'm talking about. Set a banner zone, place it in your TW (can be in page but also in header, footer, etc) create several banners, assign them to a single zone and they will be displayed randomally (within your click, impression, time setting)

Yes, with dynamic content you can have content that rotates.
fonts, color schemes, grids - much to be considered to get a design that's not looking selfmade and perhabs odd
So can have two or more banners rotating in one space.
gotcha.  the way i've been setting up ads is by creating a banner and adding {banner zone=blahblah} to a custom module.  is that the right way?

yes, that's the normal way to do it.
but If you assign more than one banner to a zone, they won't rotate, at least when I tried it, in Tiki 7.
especially, if you are not an apprenticed nor an experienced designer ... never save money on design, I say frequently, esp. if you find a way to do the rest yourself

ok, cool.  when you create a banner and it asks for the image url do you just leave that blank if you copy the html in from commission junction?

kreditkid, I think you  shouldn't expect the left and right columns to resize for your ads. You should make ads that fit.
Or resize the columns.
They aren't meant to flex to accomodate content.
Anyway, banner ads are usually standard sizes.

i'm pulling banners/ads from commission junction, and they're just available in the sizes they provide.  
so, i'm kinda stuck with what i have to work with
also, i tried sticking a banner in at the top but it screwed up the background picture and site name when i did that.  it was like jammed in between them and it looked really bad.

Bernard: what kind of examples do you mean? Actually I've only used the standard web-safe fonts in the past. Only in a site that I'm currently working on have I tried webfonts.
kreditkid, what size are the ads that you get?
They are problem standard banner sizes, but maybe wider than Tiki's side columns typically are (since some banners are narrower and some wider).
If you have a choice about the sizes commission junction makes, you could get a narrower size. Or else redefine the side column width to accomodate the ad.
for example, for one advertiser i can get 88x31, 336x280, 160x600, 120x60, 120x240, 300x250 or 486x60
how do you change the size column width?  
do you have to edit the template files?

kreditkid: you can customize the themename.css easily - just make up a themename-customname.css and aplly that, then do the changes you want
no need to interfere with the .tpl files

ok, i got the ads to auto-rotate with each refresh/access of a page
i have 120x600 and 160x600 skyscrapers in the left column now.  the right column i'm gonna play with.  not sure where to put banners at the top that won't interfere with the site logo and name.  
For the top ones, you can put them in the topbar or pagetop module zone. Make a module and assign to one of those zones, with the banner as content.
i tried that, but no matter which zone i put it in at the top it winds up looking wonky.  i have the left side looking nice now, though.

I recall what you said about the Hebrew text problems with IE.
chibaguy: it is not specific to hebrew in fact but hebrew (or i guess other non-latin language) make it look worst. IE does not preserve the font and pixelization (stairs) appears rapidly. With thin fonts it is terrible. If you can check Shocksite.com om ff then IE you'll see what i mean. :)
about non latin, some fonts (more than we think) are not. punctuations could be missing or numbers.

Well, most sites use a few standard fonts, so I guess the problem of incomplete doesn't come up much. Also probably the web page content stays within boundaries.

when the content will be more in the foreground, with menus and designed landing page, it will be OK, I think - not an overload, as the banners are not big blocks, but narrow enough to fit around the content unobtrusive

The righthand ad is ok, but the pagetop one also has the error as it links to the same Lexington Law place. (With google ads, site owners aren't supposed to click on the ads; I don't know how the place you are getting the ads from feels about that, but thought I'd click to check out the links.)
Anyone else having trouble with custom module content not displaying in the current branch 7?
A custom module with nobox=y, nothing shows. With nobox=y not set, only the title shows.

Hmm, I'm still having problems with a custom module. The data works ok in a wiki page, but when used as dynamic content and displayed in a module using the RCONTENT plugin, nothing displays. Maybe still user error possibly though.
Succeeded in getting the same final effect using the Menu page module, to load a page that has the RCONTENT plugin, etc. So I guess this can be a general workaround if user modules are currently borked.

But I need to confirm this. I haven't been too careful tonight, so maybe it's user error.
But I did a simple test - a custom module with only a line of text, and it didn't display.
Hmm, on another topic: there's no back navigation in articles after you click on "read more" to go the body of the article. Shouldn't there be a "breadcrumb" or link back to the articles home page, from an individual article? I believe there was one before, but I haven't looked at articles much lately.
Hmm, setting the title of the articles page doesn't seem to work. I set it to "topic" but it displays "Articles" even when there is only one article and its topic is "News".

Well, I've thought for a long time Tiki needs a global breadcrumbs.
site index > top of current feature > [any intermediate levels] > current page . All are links except the current page which is just text.
wiki structure would be incorporated, as would forum breadcrumb, image gallery breadcrumb, etc.
current page text in breadcrumb could be optional as it's redundant if the page/object title is displayed.

On another topic: the theme isn't correct in the footer "credits". I think maybe it shows the theme set in L&F but not the theme chosen by the user, which overrides L&F, but I haven't checked thoroughly.
And IIRC, the credits aren't using credits.tpl anymore, but only showing the theme name. To me this isn't so good because some outside designers require a link under the CC attributed license. Their themes can't be adapted to Tiki if the license requirements can't be met.
So if not credits.tpl then maybe some other means.

Thanks, I'll check my mail. I'm looking at the current branch 7 files (svn). In L&F, TheNews is set as the site theme, I used the switch-theme module to change to Eatlon, and the credits still show "Thenews".
My comment was about using Creative Commons-licensed themes, without thinking about who exactly would adapt them for Tiki. They need to link to the author's site, usually. Also some other designers require that. The 960 discussion is separate.
