oeversettenchealer: it could trigger other events in chain, defined in lib/setup/events.php, e.g. i think of triggering update_areas that way or something else useful after creating or removing a category [03:08]
as i understand it right, in that file you can combine all events with theoretically any function in the libs, so very mighty, but the event triggers have to dive up somewhere in the code [03:14]
chealeroeversetten: I think we should only do changes in 8.x if they will have an impact on Tiki 8. If there would be a use to doing that, it's probably reasonable. it's what we would do with the event that matters. [03:17]

Bernard1arildb: About notitle=y displaying the title, i had a similar problem with trunk and sitemycode. I'm checking now with last update and 8.x [08:08]
arildbBernard1: OK [08:08]
gaxwebis it possible to show the categories inside of the menu?
the whole tree?
dynamically, so you don't have to manually keep them in sync?
[08:10]
Merbstergaxweb, you could write a simple wikiplugin that lists the categories. and then include it as a toolbar? [08:16]
Bernard1arildb: ok here what i have for sitemycode; [08:16]
Merbstergaxweb, I don't know if there is built in functionality to handle listing of categories. [08:16]
gaxwebi see [08:17]
Bernard1with notitle=y under, 6x, 6p and 7 the tab containing the title AND <H3 class="box-title clearfix"> is not displayed with my theme. (this is fine)
with notitle=y under, 8 and trunk the tab containing the title AND <H3 class="box-title clearfix"> is displayed with my theme. (this is not good)
[08:17]
Merbstergaxweb, by toolbar I mean like a module :P [08:18]
Bernard1in my case it is theme dependent. i have customized <H3 class="box-title"> as this is how the header for any box is displayed. i added padding and height and this is causing the problem with sitemycode. Something must have been changed between 7 and 8/trunk. [08:20]
gaxwebi guess i'll have to read up on that then [08:20]
Bernard1if i remove padding and height customization it is ok. (which mean i have to find another way for the other boxes).
try it and let me know
try another theme (first check)
[08:20]
chibaguyBernard1: nobox=y works ok in the module zones in trunk and tiki 8, right? So your use is a different context? [08:21]
Bernard1chibaguy: sitemycode was previously set with nobox=y. that worked fine for 6 and 7. since 8/trunk it is not working. NOTE : only for this module in my website.. other are fine
(good idea to reset it back to nobox=y anyway :) )
[08:22]
http://shocksite.com/8x.html sitemycode (nobox=y) i have my h3 title displayed with my theme (same with trunk). http://shocksite.com is 7.x, sitemycode (nobox=y) my h3 title is not displayed [08:28]
arildbBernard1: I have not done any customization to the themes (using Eatlon theme btw.) I think this is a bug. The parameters are fine and it should work, i.e. should be fixed. In 6.x and 7.x this worked fine [08:29]
Bernard1this happen in my theme only as i added "height: 34px;" "padding-top: 18px;". arildb: it could be also a similar problem with Eatlon theme, try darkroom to see if it is still there. [08:31]
arildbBernard1: ok, I will try some themes [08:31]
chibaguyBernard1: sitemycode is a custom module?
I'm asking because I have a custom module in the top module zone, with nobox=y set, and it displays as expected, without the h3 title etc.
[08:31]
Bernard1it was created automatically by TW when updating from 6 to 7 (new module system) to keep my previous look&feel. [08:32]
arildbBernard1: darkroom theme has the same problem [08:32]
chibaguy(in tiki 8)
ah, I see.
[08:32]
arildbBernard1: as does fivealive. So, it does not seem to be theme dependent [08:33]
Bernard1arildb: ok so we have 2 different problem.
at least i know where to look to solve mine. :)
[08:33]
arildb:-) [08:38]
chibaguyBernard1: you could try making a new module with the data of the sitemycode module and assigning it instead. The sitemycode module seems a little unusual to me (id has no number). [08:40]
Bernard1but this is a bug of course, no matter what i should have in my style, nobox=y should NO BOX !
chibaguy: this is a good solution too. trying right away.
[08:40]
chibaguyif all else fails, you could hide the module title with css. [08:42]

ok i see a diffenrec from tw7 and tw8. inline style "class="clearfix box-data"" has been added. this is what is causing my problem

chibaguywell, I just mean that is what is shown in my page source, which seems a bit different from what is shown in yours. [08:54]
Bernard1if i remove it everything is back to normal

[08:54]
chibaguyI don't have the inline style as you quote. [08:57]
Bernard1hu... [08:57]
chibaguyonly style="" because I didn't enter any style parameter in admin modules. [08:57]
Bernard1me neither… rechecking that
as it is a custom module i don;t have a lot of option. i can set only parameters and the only one is nobox=y
[08:57]
chibaguyright, I only set nobox=y&theme=twentyten.css, so I'm surprised that the HTML in the end is rather different for us. [09:01]
Bernard1… how can something in the code change the h3 which is in the container… ?
may be you'll see something i don;t : http://pastebin.com/r12riWPQ
this is what in the custom module
[09:03]
chibaguyHmm, I just took the first table from your module data and made a custom module with it. I can specify nobox=y, and no title displays. [09:09]
Bernard1do you have an url ? [09:11]
chibaguyWell, replaced that module data with your full module data, and again no title displays. Sorry, it's here on my laptop only.
Is the site you are testing on an update from previous tiki versions, or a fresh install of tiki 8?
[09:11]

chibaguyAh, Bernard1, when I approved the modules inside the module data, now the sitemycode module title appears. :-o
Before, I was just seeing the unapproved module messages.
The modules within sitemycode apparently interfere with nobox=y.
So this seems to be a bug.
[09:18]
Bernard1ah
do you see if the class "class="clearfix box-data" has been added to the H3 box title ?
under the h3 for the box title
<div id="mod-Special_header " class="clearfix box-data" style="display: block;" >

<div id="mod-Special_header  style="display: block;" >

<h3 class="box-title clearfix">
is how it is in page source.

***stix_ is now known as stix [09:42]
chibaguyoh hi jonnyb :-) [09:42]
jonnybhi chibaguy and all [09:42]
chibaguyBernard1 has found that when a custom module contains a module, the nobox=y parameter of the containing module doesn't work.
Not sure if the same applies to standard (not custom) modules.
[09:43]
jonnybwhy put a module inside a module?
(amazed it works at all!)
[09:45]
Bernard1since 8/trunk [09:45]
jonnybhi Bernard1 - you mean it's ok in 7.x? [09:45]
Bernard1well it have been done automatically when i moved from tw6 to tw7 (module changes to preserve my look&feel))
yes ok in 7 and in 6
[09:45]
chibaguyIt's his former sitemycode (custom site header content) which is now displayed in a module rather than in L&F custom code. [09:46]
Bernard1(but 6 is different as look and feel changed)
right
brb
[09:46]
jonnybhmm, ok - wonder why that's changed - it wasn't intentional - might be a smarty 3 thing [09:48]
chibaguyNow that jonnyb asks, I wonder if the same content could be displayed without nesting modules. [09:48]

chibaguyonly one nest that baby cares about ;-) [09:51]
jonnyb:) [09:51]
.... (idle for 16mn)
Bernard1back
so what do we do (jungle book vulture)
[10:07]
chibaguyI'd say, short-term, use css to hide the module title. I don't know about the bug fixing.
hypothetically, it should be possible to use a series of modules to replace what you have now, to avoid nesting modules, but that might be kind of complicated to work out.
[10:14]
Bernard1ok, but as the "anomaly" came from the update process between 6/7 to 8 i fear that it will be more critical when updating from LTS 6 to the next LTS (9 or 10 i don't recall) [10:17]
chibaguywell, either the bug will be fixed or a method to work around can be figured out.
{module}{language filter}html {module}html{/language filter}{/module} could be replaced by...
{module with lang parameter}html{/module}{module}{module with lang parameter}html{/module}
...maybe
where {module} is the "nested" module currently
and {module with lang parameter}html{/module} would be new, to replace or contain the table tags and other html in sitemycode, up to the point of the {module}, and then another after it, etc.
[10:18]
***Caarrie|sleeping is now known as Caarrie|away [10:32]
Bernard1Mmm… (forgive my ignorance) how do i do that => "I wonder if the same content could be displayed without nesting modules" [10:35]
chibaguywell, I was thinking if you look at the content of your sitemycode module, and copy everything up to the point where the first module in that content starts, then paste that copied data as a new module.
then do the same for the content after that module, etc. making maybe several modules that together have the same content as the current sitemycode module.
but none of these new ones contains a module. they go between the current contained modules.
I didn't look carefully at your module data so don't really know if that would work, or would be easy. One thing is that the {if lang..} filters could become module parameters.
[10:37]
jonnybBernard1 & chibaguy - i think the fix should be pretty simple, just need to sort a couple of other things out
probably not worth sending long time on a workaround unless you need it within the hour
[10:40]
Bernard1ok got the idea… in the end instead of a single module, i should have 3 (one per language) + 1 (swicth language) + 1 (online support) + 3 (one per language). quit a way to go ! :D :D :D
jonnyb: no stress at all, my prod is tw7 and is working fine.
a single module is afr more easy to handle.
but i understand your point for future development chibaguy
[10:41]
chibaguyI guess in the end the questions are which way is more efficient for the server and which is easiest for users. [10:46]

jonnybwell instead of a custom module with wiki syntax in it containing the wiki plugin for a module, why not just use a module? (much less memory & cpu use etc) [14:22]
Merbsterin regard to JS best practice is to use post when saving data and get when fetching right? - But jquery.com uses an example where post is used to fetch data.
or is the post/get discussion only relevant in HTML forms?
[14:24]
jonnybnot sure Merbster - get has a smaller size limit on the data sent (4k i think) [14:26]
Merbsterjonnyb, I know that if you use POST to fetch data in HTML forms, some webcrawlers will trigger your POST to see what data is returned (which might give weird results when a webcrawler crawls the page) [14:27]

nkoth|nelsonlphuberdeau: RobertPlummer and I were discussing a new feature/objecttype for tiki yesterday, which is reports. A report is basically a config of "a query and associated filters" from logsquerylib.php or trackerquerylib. I have the need to limit the viewing of certain reports to certain groups, so perms. And I was wondering if it was really difficult to create a new object type in tiki. If so, maybe the perm
be implemented in another way (but then that is not making us e of tiki's main permissions capabiliites...) What do you think, do you get what I am asking?
[16:09]
chealerlphuberdeau: what is the purpose of "RewriteRule ^tiki-([a-z_]+) tiki-ajax_services.php?controller=$1 [QSA,L]"? it seems tiki-ajax_services.php requires both a controller and an action. supporting an action given in POST? [16:09]
lphuberdeaunkoth: there is nothing much to do besides consistently using a token for it [16:10]
nkoth|nelsonchealer: that rewrites a lot of urls that call the ajax services [16:11]
lphuberdeauchealer: to go through the broker, you need both the controller and the action, but the URL could contain only the controller and the action could be specified through POST, yes [16:11]
chealernkoth|nelson: yeah, but I think most go through RewriteRule ^tiki-([a-z_]+)-([a-z_]+) tiki-ajax_services.php?controller=$1&action=$2 [QSA,L]
thanks lphuberdeau
[16:12]
nkoth|nelsonchealer, I see ues then the other one can be sent through post yes
lphuberdeau: is there documentation on what needs to be done to add a objectType to tiki to make use of all the perms etc?

it probably failed silently i guess

arildbjonnyb: I saw your email. Seems to me like Ajax is a base technology (like CSS and Javascript). Is there any reason to have it optional and not mandatory? [17:47]
chealerI think like arildb. I don't see why an admin would want to disable AJAX. [17:49]
jonnybhi arildb, i agree - it was mainly a historical thing when we had this xajax feature (which was quite buggy)
also one of the 3 rules ("make it optional")
[17:49]
arildbjonnyb: My understanding is the 3 rules applies to features. In my view Ajax can be considered a base technology [17:50]
jonnybi agree [17:50]
chealerI see make it optional as a rule when no option is strictly better. here, I don't see what would be the benefit of disabling AJAX. [17:52]
jonnybso just remove the check in tiki-ajax_services.php (it's the least work too! :) )
let's see if there's any response to the mail on devels for a day or two (reply +1 to remove the check - might help)
[17:52]
arildbI would remove the option to disable Ajax all together...maybe that is in the file you mentioned. Less (unnecessary) choices can also be better
jonnyb: I replied with my vote to your email
[17:54]
jonnybthanks
maybe we can remove feature_ajax for 9 (and make it always on... if javascript is enabled)
[17:57]
arildbjonnyb: now there's another one. Somewhere there is an option to disable Javascript. Why is that there. Will anything work if it's disabled? [17:59]
jonnybit's mainly to simulate what happens for browsers with javascript disabled
in theory most stuff should have a fallback to work without js (again a historical thing mainly)
[18:00]
arildbjonnyb: It may simplyfy things to make it required, i.e. add a check if Javascript is support and if not terminate Tiki [18:01]
jonnybi'd tend to agree, if you need no-js support stick with tiki3 ;) but this is a collective place and people used to complain about that sort of thing

ricks99lol [22:56]
fabriciusI want to write some documentation and do not find a start
wanted to talk with you
about
it
[22:57]
ricks99y, i saw your email.
i think, instead of documenting specific features, you should do a series of tutorials or guides that walk newbies through building different sites
that was my strategy with Smarties
[22:57]
fabriciuswhat do you think - would the time been come now to write the "how to structure my Tiki think"
thing - not think sry misstype
[22:58]
ricks99be careful with the word "structure" though -- it has a special meaning in Tiki :-) [22:59]
fabriciusYes, ricks99 - I am pregnant with some video stuff aswell
and it should be more kind of an overview
[22:59]
ricks99somewhere on t.o (or maybe branding.t.o) there's a list of Tiki use cases.
it would be nice if there was a 1-2-3 basic guide for each
ricks99 has been wanting to do a sort of "101 Tiki Sites/Profiles" for a while now...
[22:59]
fabriciusnot explaining the feature in detail - not how it work or how to setup (thats classical doc) but more "what is it" and "what do I need for wich usecase" and "for what this and that is useful"
specifically for navigation, structuring, areas, perspectives
[23:01]
ricks99ricks99 still has a lot to learn about perspectives. [23:01]
fabriciuswhat's this: 101 Tiki Sites/Profiles [23:02]
ricks99An idea for my next site/book. To demonstrate 101 different Tiki possibilities (for example, a support site: wiki + tracker, a community forum: forums + calendar, a wikipedia clone: wiki, etc.) then include YAML profiles for each [23:03]
fabriciuscoool
maybe you should hav a look at the site I am developing at the moment
[23:04]
ricks99i'd love to [23:05]

[23:06]
ricks99i like the design -- very colorful and inviting. [23:07]
fabriciusthank you
it is my first design from a blank page
it is a customized jqui.css
[23:08]
ricks99much better than my designs. i think i am "artisticlly challanged" :-) [23:09]
fabriciushehe
did you see the areas?
[23:10]
ricks99not sure what you mean by "areas"? [23:11]
fabriciusdid you click on one of the colored buttons? [23:11]
ricks99oh. yes [23:12]
fabriciusjust click through the secondary site menu
guess it?
[23:12]
ricks99yes. i like it via perspectives? each "area' is a different perspective? [23:13]
fabriciusit would be
this is the easy way to make up areas without perspectives (kind of simulated)
just modules visibility to category
[23:13]
ricks99ah [23:14]
fabriciusnew made by jonny recently
was begging for that since tiki 3
here I did set it up with the same "category tree" like I would need for areas with perspectives
[23:14]
ricks99it looks great [23:16]
fabriciusmakes sense to keep an overview and kind of easy to switch to areas with perspectives
that would work with jespers perspective_binder then
and category jail
Jens did integrate Jespers file a few days ago
[23:16]
ricks99yes. i recall seeing something about that [23:18]
fabriciuswith both methods the categorised content is kind of bound to the certain areas
with the binder, the areas are more clean, more complete, but without it is quicker to setup - depending on the certain needs
only thing with this method would be, that you need the {INCLUDE} if you want content in certain areas, but not in all or in only one
for ex. the "prototyping" remark is included
[23:19]
ricks99right [23:22]
fabriciussome of the design stuff is "hardcoded" in the single css, but should be moved in "options"
some issues are not yet solved
but one cool thing is the "selfcreating menu"
- in the internal area
just a wikistructure for a group and a wikistructure-menu lefthand
I like the ide, that a content written in an area just can automatically appear in the lefthand menu
idea
[23:23]
***redflo has quit IRC (Quit: Leaving.) [23:26]
fabriciusbut that does not work with normal wikilink - when you write links to unexisting pages and create them later [23:27]
ricks99ah. yes, tat would be an issue [23:27]
fabriciusso Jens and me discussed to switch the autocategorise pages in structure around to autostructure categorised pages
I think that must work
you know - just lookup the structures rootpages area-category and if the category matches, put the page in this structure
what do you think?
[23:28]
ricks99it should work. would that be upon page creation? [23:30]
fabriciusyes, I think that would make sense
I think, whenever you categorise a page
[23:32]
