RobertPlummerMob: means RobertPlummer with a Mobile device?
mmm, and seems sylvieg and lphuberdeau you are online today... may I bring sylvie my question again , about how to save to a tracker item some data from a smarty template? You said that lphuberdeau might knoqw how to do it...
My goal, is to be able to perform calculations in R server side (through PluginR), and send back some result into a value of the tracker item
but as far as I remember, sylvieg you said that some new smarty function/resource/whatever-name-it-is needed to be created to use some function that you recalled that it was written somewhere in the code rodrigoprimo: [~rodrigo@186.221.92.206] has quit [Ping timeout: 244 seconds] xavi: lphuberdeau: do you know how to create a smarty resource that serves that purpose? mark_doe: [~quassel@xdsl-89-0-23-181.netcologne.de] has quit [Ping timeout: 244 seconds] lphuberdeau: saving information does not seem like the kind of thing that should be done from a template xavi: mmmm, ok. what do you suggest, to record some results from an R package back into a tiki tracker item?
R package or any R script etc
lphuberdeau: ^
or maybe recording from R to a file on disk, and get tiki update some tiki object (another tracker?, some sheet?...) with that csv file on disk? lphuberdeau: tiki9 has an ajax service to insert into trackers
otherwise it probably should be done from the R plugin xavi: ok, tiki9 would be perfect for this, since this is something we want to extend to the communication between R and Tiki
so, is tehre any documentation on how to use this ajax service, for an ajax newbie like me?
or for sylvieg? or rodrigo or any other developer willing to help me extend PluginR usage for our needs?
or you if you have time and interest, of course
lphuberdeau: maybe this "tiki9 ajax service to insert into trackers", might be one of the subjects of another Webinar? (february? March?...)
in case there is no much documentation right now, lphuberdeau, and in case you don't have time right now to document it, etc. Jyhem_laptop: Hi xavi. xavi: hi Jyhem_laptop, and happy New Year! Jyhem_laptop: This is interesting. Would it just insert or also update ? xavi: update, best option Jyhem_laptop: Yes, Happy New year ! xavi: since the user might change some params (other values in teh same tracker item), and re run the R script Jyhem_laptop: Well, my question was more directed to lphuberdeau who knows what this ajax service does. xavi: so that the equivalent result should be updated in the same field of the same tracker item
he he :-)
those webinars are going to be perfect to enhance communication between developers! Jyhem_laptop: I would also foresee a need for updating trackers, but just for tracker's sake. Some prospects pointed me to this abandoned project, which has them drooling: http://openrecord.org/
there is a screencast here: http://openrecord.org/screencast.html mark_doe: [~quassel@xdsl-89-0-23-181.netcologne.de] has joined #tikiwiki lphuberdeau: update is a different service, but also there, although it may not have ui bindings
update was actually in 8 xavi: yes, that might have been what sylvieg recalled....
is there any doc? lphuberdeau: the code is the doc ;) xavi: :-D
I presume that that "doc" is not suitable for me, then :-)
I wish it was... but.... -: xavi never coded or edited any single line of ajax xavi: maybe after a tiki webinar where lphuberdeau shows how his code works.... ;-) lphuberdeau: services are dead simple, just open up the files phantomfake: [~whats_in_@pool-71-190-229-236.nycmny.fios.verizon.net] has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer] xavi: "simple"... he he :-) I mean I wonder If I will be able to figure out some "magic" to be written in a tplwiki smarty template to have some data from R back into tiki trackers by means of magic-ajax
anyway, it's not an urgent need, it's just something that I foresee as an stretegic new step, that will open up new fancy possibilities to be done with pretty trackers for end users and R in the back end doing the hard stuff (genomic calculations with Gb of data, finding mutations, etc. and providing short results to be stored in tracker items) Jyhem_laptop: lphuberdeau: which files would that be ? We have hundreds :-) -: Jyhem_laptop tries to get a head start lphuberdeau: something in lib/core/Services/Tracker/ Jyhem_laptop: Controller.php SyncController.php TodoController.php Utilities.php
Everyhthing in Controller.php works as opposed to what is in TodoController.php ?

Hello Guys
I had problem upgrading from 2.2 to 8.2 dirrctly :)
directly
so now i went from 2.2 to 3.8
it worked fine
my question is
what next ?
5.x ?
or 6.x ?
or 8.2 ? Jyhem_laptop: that's very good news Hammer: if i go one by one , am i going to keep my group permissions Jyhem_laptop: I'd go LTS → LTS Hammer: and everything ? Jyhem_laptop: 3.x → 6.x → 8.x Hammer: or i will loose them?
Perfect
Am i going to loose anything ?
like I have .tpl
and .css
would they work ? Jyhem_laptop: I'm not familiar with the release notes, but group pemissions should be kept Hammer: i did not test these yet in 3.8 Jyhem_laptop: forget about the tpl and css at first :-( Hammer: lol
ok
because my old tiki used picssss
also
in wiki_up
if i move them
i think they would show
right /
? Jyhem_laptop: They are not upgraded in the upgrade processes, so you might as well upgrade without them and look afterwards at what can be put back Hammer: Oh xavi: Hammer: read http://doc.tiki.org/Upgrade Hammer: OK
perfect
I will go now xavi: take special care about the steps related to the encoding issue Hammer: to 6.x xavi: which happened between 5.0 and 5.1 Hammer: so 6.x next ?
or 5.x ? Jyhem_laptop: which is why 3.x → 6.x is good Hammer: ohhhh xavi: 6.x next is fine Hammer: perfect
should I export my databse xavi: and in case you find regressions in 8.x for your site, stay with 6.x until the next LTS is released Hammer: at each step ? xavi: or 8.x more stable regarding upgrades from oldedr branchesm, etc
read http://doc.tiki.org/Upgrade Hammer: ok
last question xavi: go ahead Hammer: does tiki wiki support Active Directory users ? xavi: no idea myself. you can ask that in the tikiwiki-users or devel list
in case no one here on irc uses that feature. I recall some people discussing about this Active Directory thing... in the devel list, probably Hammer: i see xavi: so feel free to join the developers list and ask this question there Hammer: So before i leave u guys
if 6 LTS
works fine xavi: see https://tiki.org/lists for lists urls, etc Hammer: I can stay with it till 8 LTS is out xavi: 8 is not a LTS
9.x will be when 10.0 is released, if I'm not wrong Hammer: Perfect xavi: 3.x was LTS. 6.x is current LTS
next LTS will be 9.x Hammer: so those versions
are better versions than .x xavi: and it will become LTS when tiki 10.0 is released Hammer: ?
life time support
i mean they are stable right ? xavi: "better": not necessarily better (we should discuss what we all mean by better, etc). They are more stable Hammer: perfect xavi: LTS = Long Term Support (and no new features added)
kind of Hammer: ok
Thank you Xavi
and Jymeh xavi: welcome Hammer! Hammer: i am gonna try
6 TLS
now
and get back to you
:) xavi: you can get back to the list (or tikiwiki-users list) if you don't find much feedback on irc whenever you are back (it depends on time zones, etc)
Hammer: where are you from? Hammer: Ottawa
u? xavi: ah, ok, many people from Canada here Hammer: yea
but originally xavi: me from Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain, Europe Hammer: from lebanon xavi: ok Hammer: I am visintg
Barcelona ricks99: Hammer: you might look at http://dev.tiki.org/RoadMap it explains the different versions Hammer: in June xavi: ok, I hope you enjoy it :-) Hammer: Thank you man
Thx ricks99 :) jonnyb: [~jonnybrad@cpc2-nmal9-0-0-cust664.croy.cable.virginmedia.com] has joined #tikiwiki Hammer: welcomeeeeeeeeee Jonnyb
:) jonnyb: polom
how's it going Hammer? Hammer: not too bad
i went from 2.2 to 3.8
with no problems
so far
of course there is no images and stuff like .css xavi: hi ricks99 and jonnyb, btw, and happy New Year to you too! jonnyb: hi xavi - same to you! xavi: thks jonnyb: Hammer: when you say no images that's because you haven't updated & installed the theme? Hammer: rigth right
i did not move anything over
that should be at the end
when i am done
right
?
or I can recreate them Jyhem_laptop: I believe any time you spend on getting the theme right in 3.8 will be lost when you upgrade to 6.x and 8.x Hammer: right
so i prefer doing them at the end
I wonder what have changed in mydatabse during this upgrade :)
from 2.2. to 3.8

have a look in the DB in table tiki_schema - it should list all the scripts it thinks it's run Hammer: yea all Sql files jonnyb: i have 391 (also an old database) Hammer: are there jonnyb: ah, i wonder if the database user tiki is using doesn't have some permissions, like ALTER table?
presumably the pma user does... Hammer: ummmm
could be
how can i check that ? jonnyb: (in which case you'll need to start again at least from your 3.x database)
in pma go to priveliges
look for the tiki db user (as set in your db/local.php) and see what they can do Hammer: Ok
Unknown column 'client' in 'field list'
so it keeps going
i will check jonnyb: yes, makes sense - if all the alter table etc commands failed you'd get this Hammer: database-specific ALL PRIVILEGES No
this is my dabase user
Grant is NO
well i have 2 types
one is global
and one jonnyb: ok, but that's global - click the edit icon
look for Database-specific privileges Hammer: for databse -specific
under Structure
all checked
but under admin
Grant is uncheked jonnyb: think that's ok - structure is what's failing here...
go back to the users list - is that user only there once? and what's the Host setting? Hammer: it is there
with another root user
ther eis not host
beside
it
it is blanck
blank
that s why jonnyb: odd - do oyu know about mysql? (or does anyone else there?) Hammer: i think i must use root
there is one
dabase admin
i can ask
but he is not here
at the moment jonnyb: you shouldn't really - better to make a new user and limit it's access to just the database you want Hammer: yes but Host is blank
should not be my dabase name ? jonnyb: sounds like something weird's going on in there, too much to communicate here without seeing it
no, the host should be the address of your web server - usually localhost but it doesn't sound like it will be for you (as you said it's using 10.something IP's) Hammer: no no
i said it connecting to that
but it should be
localhost
because it is not live
yet
everthing i have is local host jonnyb: ok, you could try changing that (in local.php or the installer) Hammer: in the inslatter i left it
localhost
but on phpmyadmin
host beside the dabase user
is blank jonnyb: yes, not sure what that would do but it sounds insecure to me, so best if your db expert has a look Hammer: ok
here is my plan
i will go back to 3.8
i will re-install
my dabase
should i just create new databse and user on PHP myadmin
?
then import
my 3.8 database
then rerun the installer
? jonnyb: i think you'd be safer going right back to 2.2 i'm afraid - 3.8 does quite a lot of this upgrading (once you have the user working really properly)
if it is this privileges thing as i suspect...
yes, make a new db and user should work Hammer: using 6.9 ?
i think we can try
i am in test jonnyb: but then i don't really understand how it's not working (but working a bit) Hammer: anyways jonnyb: i bet if you try to go straight form 2.2 to 6.5 you'll have to do it again! :)
but you could try... Hammer: I ll give it a try
lol
u here tomorrow ?
if i need anythng ?
I will try this first
if it does not work jonnyb: should be about on and off Hammer: i ll go to 2.2
i ll create new databse and user now redflo: [~flo@tikiwiki/redflo] has joined #tikiwiki Hammer: create database first ? or user does it matter ? jonnyb: yes, make a new one and give the new user full access to it Hammer: what collation should I use ? jonnyb: was just wondering that... same as the old one for now i guess (should be utf-8 eventually) randomatix: [~randomati@dsl081-234-005.lax1.dsl.speakeasy.net] has left #tikiwiki ["Ex-Chat"] Hammer: old had swedish_ci
i dunno why jonnyb: it's the mysql default Jyhem_laptop: mysql was originally created by swedes jonnyb: (at least used to be) Hammer: oh so i choose utf-8 ? jonnyb: hi Jyhem_laptop - figures! Jyhem_laptop: Still is. jonnyb: no, pick swedish and we can try and fix the encoding stuff another time Hammer: ok created
now i will create a new usder
new user Jyhem_laptop: You probably don't have any accented character in your website, have you ? Hammer: what host should I use ? Jyhem_laptop: If not, you might want to insert a couple in a page so when you "fix", you can check that it is actually fixed. à ê é jonnyb: localhost (assuming the database is on the same machine as the web server) Hammer: ok
or i can write the dabase name ?
or not an option
?
gloabl priv i am gonna slelect them all jonnyb: host is the machine address (of the client)
i'd recommend you get your database person to tighten up the user privileges before you go live ;) Hammer: for now as test
i wont bother him
LOL
he is busy i guess jonnyb: usually Hammer: ok done
now i will import
the databse
Imported.!!!
Jonny
now it is asking if i should move to UTF8
should i ignore this for now
?
Your database encoding is not in UTF-8. Current encoding is latin1. The languages that will be available for content on the site will be limited. If you plan on using languages not covered by the character set, you should re-create or alter the database so the default encoding is utf8. jonnyb: yes, ignore again for now Hammer: Operations failed: 2 SQL queries
:(
20090206_content_tpl_menu_tiki
we can ignore these for now
20110610_readd_sefurl_index_left_tiki jonnyb: actually that's quite normal - not important (and maybe shows it actaully ran the scripts this time!) Hammer: ok let s see jonnyb: usually trying to add columns that already exist Hammer: it worksssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss jonnyb: hurrah! :) Hammer: lol
so yesterday
was the user
I guess
? jonnyb: sounds like it Hammer: means I can try directly from
2.2 to 8.2
btw I am getting these on my home page :
387c238ab2975650b194df8bbeb32768§§1adf2dc17db93c380514f66ee63ee023§~ ~ §0cde44f95801954647e5cf4f6bd25b9f§§f72cf431757d394fc48f581143afd971§~ ~ §acbfe3f07bc2c09048a19f4a261d588f§§5e5847faf84128ffb438ff55f07e2726§
i think i had pictures
there
or whatever jonnyb: ew - that sounds like encoding errors Hammer: yea I think that because when i put the cursor on it ssays something for a page
ummmm
:(
ummm those are places for pictures only jonnyb: you could go back to the installer and do the charset fix stuff (take a backup again first) Hammer: and of course wiki_up is not there yet
OK
will Do jonnyb: i think you'll need to go back to modify the connection page and tell it to use utf-8
then on the last page do the "dangerous" encoding fix putting Latin1 as the old charset Hammer: Ok
I will
doing it now
Use existing connection ?
or modify ? jonnyb: modify, but put the same stuff in (and check the utf8 checkbox) Hammer: I did
same thing
it si only where the main pages Pics are
other pages where i have pics
it shows pic plugin jonnyb: pic plugin was replaced by the img plugin (we had 3 or 4 of them) - an update script should have fixed it
probably easiest to fix them manually Hammer: yea eh
but why the installer did not fix it
it should
Anyways
NOW : you think if I can go from 2.2 to 8.2
i sjhould go for it ?
without 3.8 then 6
? jonnyb: safest to go from the 6.5 one i'd say Hammer: so 2.2 then 6.5 ? or 6.9 ?
:P? jonnyb: 6.9 doesn't exist yet, 6.5 is most recent 6.x (6.6 coming soon tho)
i thought you already had it working in 6.x now? Hammer: yes
this is 6.6 jonnyb: then use that one to upgrade to 8.2 (8.3 out soon too!)
off out now shortly, more tomorrow (i expect ;) )
sounds like progress though, well done! Hammer: Thank you
Jonnyb
u rock man
::) jonnyb: :) Hammer: See you tomorrow

My guess is, it looks up the field name in language.php and replaces that if the translation exists
