what I did the last years in other CMS was to import the forum topic RSS on the main page as news
without comments, but still better than a real blog with comments Tiki|bot: New Forum Posts: Major Upgrade 8.3 to 10 - http://tiki.org/tiki-view_forum_thread.php?forumId=6&comments_parentId=45841

hi again ^^
i´m just trying to set up tikiwiki and running in a bit of trouble
i managed to set my database to utf8, but tikicheck shows many other variables that are set to latin1 etc.
and i wonder if that will lead to problems
i also dont understand why it says collation_database, even though i changed it to utf8 marclaporte: joined #tikiwiki refizul: wayne04_: what are the system's locales on the server? They could be latin1.
wayne04_: just try it as it is if you're in doubt. In most cases there won't be problems. Search related issues may be affected, but needn't to break. Search times may be increased. wayne04_: http://pastebin.com/sxwRASRA
this is what tiki check says
do you think that will be a problem?
the weird thing is, that i executed ALTER DATABASE DEFAULT CHARACTER SET utf8 COLLATE utf8_general_ci; as said in the tiki manual
and phpmyadmin says that encoding is utf8, but tiki check says something different.. refizul: Did you clean Tiki's cache? Maybe there is old data stored there. lindonb: joined #tikiwiki wayne04_: i havent installed tiki yet
only tiki check refizul: quote: "Tiki is fully UTF-8" wayne04_: you mean what character_set_system says? refizul: yes wayne04_: but what about all the other variables?
where it says ugly refizul: most stuff seems to be the server itself. Do you have got root access? wayne04_: no, else i would just change it in my.ini or so
all i have is phpmyadmin
and .htaccess refizul: on Debian based systems: dpkg-reconfigure locale
but you can run Tiki UTF-8 on an ISO-8859 system wayne04_: im installing tiki right now, i guess ill just try it
how can i find out if it makes trouble?
type something with äü etc. and check it in phpmyadmin? refizul: one thing is the encoding Tiki uses, another which encoding the system uses. Most of the time there is no problem if those do not match (as a matter of experience) wayne04_: ah ok refizul: not phpmyadmin
install Tiki and edit some umlaute to a wiki page and things like that, do a few searches with special characters in page names, and look for problems wayne04_: ok thanks refizul: if no problems occur, don't care about the encoding wayne04_: thanks a lot for your help! refizul: understanding the encoding fine tuning completely will need lots of hours of reading, thinking and understanding wayne04_: yes ive had troubles with that before
but only on my local system refizul: and if you think you are done you notice something new - a never ending story wayne04_: ^^
my webserver allows me to activate zend.. would that make sense? refizul: I don't know - Tiki should bring along whatever it needs. try without that first wayne04_: ok
im curious on how well tiki will work
and if it actually be useful
how long are you using it already? refizul: less than half a year, and I still learn about this universe/tikiverse wayne04_: is it working well for you? refizul: I'm less a user than an admin who provides it for others to use wayne04_: whats the users feedback so far? refizul: they don't want to migrate from what they know :-) wayne04_: always the same
^^ refizul: WordPress, Joomla, MediaWiki - I want to get rid of that zoo wayne04_: can tiki replace all of them? refizul: Upgrading procedures, backup concepts - these are things I think about
yes, Tiki can blog, wiki, articles, forum and much more wayne04_: so its good to start with that right away as in my case
:D refizul: just jump into it and have fun ;-) wayne04_: i will, thanks!
thanks again for your help, bye! xavi: joined #tikiwiki
polom -: xavi getting again unwanted registrations in 9.x LTS ... through non standard procedures, I reckon...
xavi wonders if he is the only one smelling a new faken-registration-attempts-wave again ... as we started to have in july 2012 before the registration process was more tightened... lindonb: i had some cases with user registration tracker records being created before the user was approved
turned off registration on the site, so haven't looked into it further xavi: hi lindonb
did you have that with an updated tiki 9.x lts? lindonb: i believe it was 9.1
i've since updated to 9.x, but have closed registration xavi: in my case, I'm using 9.x r44482 (Jan'13, 09) lindonb: let me check xavi: mmm, I can't close registration.... unless a real spam wave comes there... (so far, only 3 new false registrations went in, I dunno how)
I'll try to add those new ip's to the tiki banning system... -: xavi checking through tiki action log those ip's from those 3 fake registrations... lindonb: in my case i didn't find anything in the logs
my 9.1 was at r43395 xavi: ok Tiki-KGB: tikiwiki 03changi67 r44851 10branches/ 108.x/lib/test 108.x/lib/pear 108.x/lib
