about synchronisation of Tiki forums with mailinglists, some annotations:
first, I do not understand, why the t.o forum is synchronized with the devel list flawlessly - this should be impossible within Tiki alone
reason is the mailing list prefix, which breaks threading in the Tiki forum
I tried to find out with the help of some t.o admins, but this configuration needs a deeper look
Second: some email voodoo has to be done until the Tiki code itself will be rewritten
I went through that email voodoo and now is seems to work, at least if the mailinglist software is mailman
Tiki-KGB: tikiwiki 03marclaporte r45850 10branches/11.x/lib/prefs/feature.php
tikiwiki Direct links to each search option, from the admin panel
refizul: the setup includes some security related ideas, because some features are not implemented in Tiki yet
1) You need an email address to fetch from via POP3. This address has to be subscribed to the mailing list.
2) For security (POP3 in Tiki is not SSL encrypted yet) this POP3 account should be in a trusted network reachable from the Tiki server or on the same server
3) POC (proof of concept): install Postfix (MTA) and Dovecot (POP3) on your Tiki server with a mailbox for Tiki inbound
4) Postfix configuration for MDA: do _not_ choose dovecot, but procmail
5) create an user with /home on the Tiki server to receive email
6) configure users's .procmailrc to a) process a shell script, and b) to deliver the email via Dovecot
7) stripe mailinglist prefix via shell script
8) inbound is done, configure a different outbound address for email in Tiki forum
9) configure mailman to accept email from this address
The core part is the shell script and the procmail stuff, but in addition the MDA (mail delivery agent) handling is tricky, too
Once this all is clear, the coding is quite easy
A running test implementation for a special community is online here, we'll start crowd testing soon. Admin tests went well.
As soon the situation is stable, I'll summarize a howto for doc.t.o and provide the shell script template for the Tiki community
this first IRC quick howto is for the early adopters
THX for listening ;-)

HideMe: After upgrading from 6.x to 9.x I've noticed some Wiki pages have an odd diamond icon with a question mark in it. Also when trying to edit this same document, the content field is empty. Any ideas what causes this?
ricks99: encoding issues.
during the upgrade, did you see the utf/encoding issue option?

datachannel plugin question: has anyone ever used external fields for drop-down or country fields?
ping lph lphuberdeau?

Jyhem_laptop: hi lphuberdeau
lphuberdeau: good morning
Jyhem_laptop: I have a plugin tracker & a plugin datachannel in a page. external=ins_4 works fine for a text field but for drop-down and country fields I get "undefined" or nothing :-( Is that supposed to be possible ?
Or maybe first fill tracker and then cascade to outputwiki where I put datachannel with the previous values ? But it seems that this would create a new wiki page every time :-(

lphuberdeau: don't really know what you're trying to do, and I know very little about the state of those plugins
vmachine: joined #tikiwiki
Jyhem_laptop: oh. I imagined you had written plugin datachannels. On ne prte qu'aux riches :)

Jyhem_laptop: I'll tie them together with jQuery. That should work

lphuberdeau: well, I wrote that plugin about 4 years ago, it evolved since
however, usage is quite limited because of the complete lack of validation
so for most serious use cases, you kind of need to hack around it
often simpler to just write a custom plugin to do the special form handling, validation, and then call the data channel profile through the libraries... quite trivial actually
Jyhem_laptop: Validation is not the concern. Typos are the concern. So I use the Tracker plugin for data entry since it displays the drop-downs instead of simple text fields. But external=ins_4 works when field "4" is a tracker text field, not when field "4" is a tracker drop-down field
Any pointer to the "call the data channel profile through the libraries" thing?
HideMe: rick99 Yes, I did see that option but did not run it a the DB is latin1-swedish-ci
*as
ricks99: HideMe: in that case, you'll need to edit the local.php and change the encoding to match your DB.
see the upgrade doc for details
HideMe: ricks99, uncomment // $client_charset='latin1'; ?
ricks99: yes, if that's your encoding
HideMe: rick99 Thank you, issue resolved.

lphuberdeau: Jyhem, just look at the plugin code... around line 252 (trunk)
load up the profile, create an installer, set the user data, apply the profile

Jyhem_laptop: Thanks lphuberdeau but the jQuery approach is much more trivial for me, and about finished.
