ricks99_: ?
I've got some users to see Tiki install and profile application from the point of view of end users (newbies)
[15:52]
jonnybpolom xavi [15:52]
xaviI'm considering to change a couple of strings from the profile admin interface
but I'm not sure about the wording , not about the presentation of html elements with longer strings....
jonnyb , luciash and any other one in the UI Team for feedback?
That user got lost in in tiki-admin.php?profile=&categories[]=9.x&categories[]=Featured+profiles&repository=http%3a%2f%2fprofiles.tiki.org%2fprofiles&page=profiles&preloadlist=y&list=List#step1
hi jonnyb
step1: where it says "Categories", he was not sure what those things were for. (he is a user of our tiki site for 2 years, but never installed a tiki, nor a profile himself)
[15:52]
jonnybsorry, i don't follow - lost where? [15:54]
xaviAdmin profiles interface
"I've got some users to see Tiki install and profile application from the point of view of end users (newbies)"
[15:54]
jonnyboh, from the link in the default HomePage? [15:54]
xaviyes [15:55]
jonnybdoes the link not work? [15:55]
xaviand I'm considering to change the word "Categories" for...
"Tiki versions and Profile categories"
but this wording seems longer, and the select box is out of alignment with the others above and below
^this is issue 1
issue 2: in tiki 11 the link doesn't work
doesn't work: no profile is listed (not sure yet why)
[15:55]
jonnybi don't think that helps much does it - if they don't understand categories? [15:57]
xaviyes, that's right, at that point, they do not know what the word "categories" stand for. They know what tiki categories (the feature) are, but not there that word [15:57]
jonnyb"types of profile" maybe better?
i'll try and fix the bug :)
[15:58]
xaviok, type of profile: good enough, and shorter. Thanks (I'll commit that)
issue 3: "Step 2: ... [sentence]"
[15:58]
ricks99_what's wrong with simply: "Select Profile" ? Isn't "type of" implied? [15:59]
xavinot clear for them, that they need to click there to be able to the a button to apply the profile.
therefore, I was considering to change that sentence for something like:
"Step 2: Click on a Profile to review it and to be able to apply it on your Web site"
but I'm unsure about the wording
any UK person here with a better/proper sentence? ;-)
former (well, current) sentence was: "Step 2: Click on a Profile to review and see description"
But they went there after clicking at one profile name from the homepage, and they were expecting to see a button to apply it, but they don't see any button to apply, nor any indication of what to do to apply that profile
just to review and see a description, etc.
[15:59]
ricks99_if it issomething to actually click, is it a button? [16:01]
xaviricks99_: the button shows up after you click on the profile name/link [16:02]
ricks99_change "Apply Now" to "Apply this Profile" ? [16:03]
xaviricks99_: the problem is not the label of the button, is that they don't see any button before they click on the profile name, and the instructions in step 2 don't say anything to be done to see a button
the button they are looking for
[16:04]
ricks99_under the profile name (in the list on step 2) we really need a button that says "REVIEW" or "DETAILS" or "MORE INFO" etc
the fact that the name of the profile is a link is not obvious
[16:05]
xaviwell, yes, that might be true, also (my work mate was unsure about what to do, since he didn't see any button) [16:05]
ricks99_studies show that for end users, buttons are different than links
links "go somwhere" while buttons "do something"
having a link that does something is confusing to newbies
[16:06]
xaviissue4: and he was coming from the homepage as admin just loged in, and he had clicked on a link to apply the collaborative community profile, but was shown that page with the name of the four featured profiles again, and no link to proceed to apply the profile he chose in the admin hoempage [16:07]
ricks99_brb [16:07]
xaviissue4: I guess I can fix that myself
issue3: wording for step2, what avbout this: "Step 2: Click on a Profile to review it and to be able to apply it on your Web site"
issue 2: "in tiki 11, the link in a new tiki homepage to apply a profile doesn't show the featured profiles": I'll investigate a it more where the issue can be

[16:10]
jonnybyes, that should do it, but obviously there aren't any profiles yet for 11.x [16:11]
xaviok
not as featured, but for 11.x, yes there are :-)
[16:11]

yes, featured ones i meant

hi arildb__ - i think it was a long time ago but do you recall http://sourceforge.net/p/tikiwiki/code/40225 - just wondering why it was needed (as it's messing up modules admin)
re http://dev.tiki.org/item4545
[16:36]
xaviricks_ (gone): there was no issue with step3 .... :-/
s/ricks_/ricks99_ (anyway)
[16:48]
about the list of "Types of profile" in the admin panel for profiles.... it's so long due to the old tiki versions, that users are not even seing current tikis as selected.
imho, we should remove at least the non-supported and non-lts versions of tiki
so 4.x, 5.x, 7.x, 8.x at least shoould be moved elsewhere, in order to make that list shorter or usable again for end users
[16:54]
jonnybxavi: afaik, those are categories set up on profiles.tiki.org - removing them would be messy and break old installs i think [17:00]
xaviwell, my goal was to move them else where, inside a new category called "deprecated" (that's what they are ,deprecated versions of tiki)
we do not provide support any more for them
I've temporarily moved 4.x to be inside deprecated, but my localhost still lists 4.x in the profile admin panel.... even after clearing local tiki caches....
[17:01]
jonnybthat should work i think - although for people still on 8.x (say) they probably wouldn't be able to fine them [17:02]
xaviI'll clear remote tiki caches in profiles.t.o [17:02]
jonnybyes, i think you need to do that too [17:02]
arildb__Hi jonnyb

[17:03]
jonnybhi arildb__
i've been running locally with that code removed and it works fine - the zones with nothing in don't even get rendered unless you're on admin_modules, so i don't think it was doing anything recently anyway

tikiwiki [FIX] modules: Make empty module zones more "droppable" in modules admin (thanks alain_desilets re: wish4545)
[17:14]
arildbjonnyb: about 40225. This update collapses the sidebars if they don't have any content. This is done client side, to be able to catch "dynamic hiding" of modules.
WHat is the problem it is causing?
[17:20]
jonnybempty columns in module admin can't be used (have stuff dropped on them) cos they're hidden [17:21]
arildbCan't "show hidden modules" be used? [17:21]
jonnybwhen do the sidebars have empty content but get rendered in the page? in tiki.tpl those divs are only rendered if not empty afaics
try commenting that code out and see what the difference is (i can't see any now) - it was probably fixed server side after that commit
unless there's a case i'm missing
[17:22]
arildbThe side-bar hiding rules in "looks & Feel" don't catch dynamic hiding(at runtime) of modules. That's why the commit was needed. [17:23]
Tiki|botRecent Bug: - Blog post html encoding problem with WYSIWYG editor when viewed as RSS feed - http://dev.tiki.org/item4547 [17:23]

jonnybyou mean modules get hidden by javascript? wasn't aware of that feature - how? [17:30]
arildbIt's been a while, and I don't recall the details, but late rendering was required [17:31]

[17:33]

arildb_The auto-hiding of the sidebar was never made an option. Would that help? I have not noticed the case you are describing. Has it been there since the commit, or come about recently? [17:34]
jonnybthere was quite a lot of module backend refactoring in 10.x so i'm pretty sure it's not needed now (have spent an hour+ on it so far) - but didn't want to tread on your toes by just removing it without checking
how do you mean? the side columns have always had a "hide if empty" option (since 1.something)
[17:35]
arildb_Let me check it out a little (by commeting out the code [17:36]
jonnybok, thanks [17:37]
arildbBy auto-hiding, I meant the late hiding which this commit does [17:37]
jonnybbut what i'm saying is there's nothing there to hide - and if there is it's a bug in the smarty somewhere [17:38]
Tiki-KGBtikiwiki 03jonnybradley r46202 10branches/11.x/lib/modules/tiki-admin_modules.js
tikiwiki [FIX] modules: Pick up module position properly (casualty of change from single char zone names to words)
[17:40]
arildbjonnyb if a module should hide itself under certain conditions, but not under others (determined at runtime), the sidebar has a chance of being empty, even if it has a module. Since it has a module, the blank sidebar will be displayed. r40225 does late auto-hiding and catches such cases. I am not sure if server side fixes can solve this. ...but I will try to do a test [17:44]
jonnybnot sure what you mean by "runtime" - i guess you mean client-side - the function in modlib filter_active_module() determines wether the module gets rendered (depending on category, page etc etc) so the module zone arrays contain all the info for the module to be rendered before it gets to smarty - i'm not aware of a way of removing them after that
if you use custom javascript to remove modules within the browser then this code should also be in custom.js (or somewhere)
[17:48]

jonnybaha, right - well that would be either a bug in the module or a config error (like a preference missing) - covering it up with javascript doesn't seem to be a good way to fix it, imho
