Olaf must be travelling :-) Anzhe: :-) I've heard nothing
btw, do you know of anyone "on the team" who will be attending Wikimania 2013? marclaporte: Régis Barondeau
you are going? Anzhe: yeah I'll be there marclaporte: awesome! Anzhe: it's pretty hard to believe
it basically went like this
1. On 2013-08-01 my company will launch our new International Market Research Division
2. the centerpiece of this division is TikiWiki11, we are going to collect and organize all of our data on TW marclaporte: I am skipping this year, but make sure to meet http://www.regisbarondeau.com/ ? Anzhe: 3. while browsing the TW site I noticed the upcoming events, and that WM was in HK this year
4. I'm in China, so HK is a hop-skip away
5. I applied to the powers-that-be for funding to go to the conference with the goal of optimizing our TW implementation plan marclaporte: This is awesome timing :-) Anzhe: 6. they agreed, to my amazement
we've never done anything like a knowledge base before, and lots of people think I'm crazy, so to get this conference bankrolled was a real coup
anyway, hopefully I can meet some people who know TW while I'm there, because it's new for all of us marclaporte: Yes, there will be some users Anzhe: I have basic MediaWiki experience but editing existing articles here and there is a far cry from building a goliath market research knowledge base marclaporte: But Régis is the one with most experience I would think
And Tiki is a different animal than MediaWiki :-)

Hello
Someone bugged memcache in trunk?
Call to a member function get() on a non-object in lib/cache/memcachelib.php on line 117 jonnyb: joined #tikiwiki Jyhem_: Hello leagris: memcache is not just broken in trunk. It's kind of an abandoned feature
I looked it up in Tiki9 in april and my notes say: fonctionnalité en déshérence (currently unworking/uncared for) :-( jonnyb: hi Jyhem_ and leagris
memcache is working, i'm using it in a couple of tiki 11 sites Jyhem_: Summary: Tiki ignores package php5-memcached and package php5-memcache ends up in White Screen of Death jonnyb: but it can blow up badly if you don't set it up right (lphuberdeau magic :) ) - i started fixing it but it wasn't easy and so just added some notes somewhere it think Jyhem_: jonnyb: I wish I knew that in april, you were in the same building when it failed me on Tiki9 :-) jonnyb: you must have valid entries in your memcache_servers pref, or WSoD Jyhem_: So, not something that iproved between 9 and 11 ? Just hard to figure out ? jonnyb: joined #tikiwiki -: Jyhem_ always has difficulties figuring things out when in frnt of WSOD :) Jyhem_: reposting : So, not something that improved between 9 and 11 ? Just hard to figure out ? -: Jyhem_ always has difficulties figuring things out when in frnt of WSOD :) jonnyb: trouble is, the caching is done so low in the system that safely reporting problems (like the caching isn't working) is v tricky - catch 22 sort of thing
i fixed a couple of things for 11, but didn't manage to defeat the setup issue -: jonnyb just jumps into the debugger when confronted with a WSoD Jyhem_: Well, at least xCache is working fine. jonnyb: :) Jyhem_: I look up the error log. But really, I did not put effort in memcache, since i had no detailed understanding of what it achieved when running, and i was more passing through all the performance panels one after the other jonnyb: from my experience on two servers with it, i think you get a noticeable speed improvement out of cached pages - "feels like" about 10% or 20% maybe Jyhem_: Also, I have that feeling next time I want to improve performances, i would have better results looking up nginx (everybody else seems to anyway) jonnyb: no idea what happens under heavy load but i'd guess it all helps
yes, must try nginx and the others one day Jyhem_: Any help is good, except the help which presents a WSOD to the customer :-) -: Jyhem_ goes for a cold shower and out. It's too hot here :-( jonnyb: :) Tiki-KGB: tikiwiki 03jonnybradley r46887 10branches/ 10(5 files in 4 dirs)

though it is fine with Chrome
167ms requests+http and 1.36s onload jonnyb: hi leagris - firefox is notoriously slow but mines fine here at the moment (the messed up the debugger in safari which i was using before)
i did find that using the js can was really slowing it down a lot in some circumstances - try switching that off? leagris: what do you mean by "using the js"?
debugger? jonnyb: sorry (autocorrect) i meant "js cdn" leagris: was disabled
Well, from Firebug profiler 33% time spent was from Thumbnails_capture() (browser internal) hahaha jonnyb: :D
don't worry, it should get an update in a few hours, hasn't been one for day!
s lindonb: joined #tikiwiki leagris: doing tests on multiple CDN. 3 is where I get the most perceived performance gain jonnyb: leagris: i had a little look too but don't know how to set it up properly - i did find i was still getting "empty" ##i entries in the trusted urls array leagris: junnyb did a new commit to fix this last night jonnyb: did you have a look at the memcache_servers serialise functions? That would be the cleanest way to do it and you'd get a clean array everywhere
yes, this was today
if there's a line end after the last url it counts as a new empty cdn... leagris: ah yes jonnyb: the test for empty is on the whole pref, not the split elements
hope you don't mind me mentioning it :) (just trying to help) leagris: your are of good help
mmm preg_split on s+ help remove middle empty entries, but not last entry ;D
well trim will do marclaporte: joined #tikiwiki jonnyb: leagris: try array_filter($array)

tikiwiki [FIX] multi-cdn sanitize cdn preference entries before use + refactoring dhazel: joined #tikiwiki jonnyb: hi fabricius - didn't know we had one for that leagris: fabricus whouldn't entering it being enough? non-breaking-space <altgr><space>, non-breaking-short-space <altgr><v> (used it in French typography before composite punctuations like : ; ? …) marclaporte: joined #tikiwiki lindonb: ~hs~ is the wiki syntax for non breaking space
doc.tiki.org/Wiki+Syntax+Text leagris: Not sure a syntax exist for this one: U+202F NARROW NO-BREAK SPACE dhazel: joined #tikiwiki lindonb: leagris: you're probably right, not familiar with that one leagris: En français, Il faut un espace court insécable pour séparer les ponctuations composées du texte : « : », « ; », « ? », « … » et les guillemets.
In french, composite punctuations have to be spaced from words, by a short non breaking space. Though a normal size non breaking space is accepted where a short non breaking is not supported. lindonb: ah, I see fabricius: lindonb: thx, I was looking for ~hs~ leagris: Well it si pedantic typography from Imprimerie Nationale. Quebec and other French locale countries don't add any space at all to double punctuations (as in English) ;)
Be sure the LaTeX tools are pedantic enough to follow this rule ;P marclaporte1: joined #tikiwiki fabricius: leagris: in german we put the punctuation directly at the last character of a sentence, or of a phrase, etc. and then leave a space after the punctuation: <- this way, <-that way! <- or this way? ... ;-)
leagris: no, very shure, we do not have a WikiSyntax for narrow-non-breaking-space ... maybe we should ask Robert Plummer to get one into the parser? Jyhem_: Hi, I'm pretty sure we don't have a WikiSyntax for narrow-non-breaking-space
3-4 years ago, after we switched to UTF8, I did some study on browser support of things like non-breaking spaces, half and quarter spaces, half and quarter non breaking spaces, as entered directly in utf-8. The result was: only non-breaking space ( ) was consistently supported ( at the time) :-(
No point putting a correct U+202F if it is going to be displayed as a ugly "unknown char" square on 30% of browsers.
This is why there is that text on top of tikiwiki/tikiwiki/trunk/lang/fr/language.php
We use only normal-width non breaking spaces, so far.
But things may have improved and if anyone feels like looking up support for these things on current browsers (and probably also mail user agents), feel free :-) Tiki-KGB: tikiwiki 03jonnybradley r46892 10branches/ 10(9 files in 8 dirs)
