rug: fabricius, hello,
I have created six groups, each one was assigned an article
and each article has a page inside
I also created 5 menus and one module in the pagetop position where I want the menu to display
The problem now, How can I link the articles to the menu? or the menus to the module?
does it have sense?
fabricius: no
1st what you mean with article?
are you aware, that "Articles" is an extra feature and that an article is something different than a wiki-page (technically in Tiki)
[on a journalistic point of view - as author - you can write an article and publish it as "article", as "blog-post", as "wiki-page", but we should agree to stick to exact wording according to the specific software we use]
rug, you have two main ways to work that out, what you want to achieve with the menus
I) easy way
II) hard way
I) easy: you need 6 menus and 6 standard modules and only fill in some parameters in the module creation dialogue
II) hard: you need 6 menus and one custom module and some smarty syntax and manually figure out the parameters
=> what you want?
btw: I do not have time for the hard way, as I am heading off to Berlin in 3 hours and stay there till Sunday
so ....
rug?
rug: ok the 1st option
fabricius: Ok
rug: is ok
fabricius: so you have 6 groups - I call them G1, G2, G3, G4, G5, G6
rug: ok
fabricius: you have 6 categories - C1, C2, C3, C4, C5, C6
rug: yes
fabricius: 6 pages - P1, P2, P3, P4, P5, P6 (wikipages)
rug: sure.
fabricius: 6 menus - 43, 44, 45, 46, 47, 48
Tiki|bot: New Forum Posts: Search for Wiki Page slow, not working as expected - http://tiki.org/tiki-view_forum_thread.php?forumId=6&comments_parentId=48960
fabricius: and 6 modules - M1, M2, M3, M4, M5, M6
rug: yup
the question is, maybe i don't understand well the syntax. why having the 6 modules?
fabricius: all modules are standart module_menu, which you can find in a drop down menu in tiki-admin_modules.php in the very left tab, called assigned modules ... when you click there on "assign new module"
rug: why can't I put the six menus into one module?
fabricius: you can put 6 menus into one module and display it conditional to the category, if you know smarty syntax
that is too advanced for a very brief fast help
I can explain that next week
rug: ok, let's take the easiest way
fabricius: just do the standard, which is better to understand the principle
ok
so we have set up all ... if not, you do later
we start with the first workgroup G1
rug: the remaining are the other modules. I've got only one.
fabricius: G1 gets the menu 43
rug: but this can be done later
ok let's go
fabricius: menu 43 is applied to module M1
so:
module M1 is set visible for only category C1
(module creation dialogue - 4th tab)
must be one of the first three parameters there
just type in the category Id number into the field besides "category"
the tab is named "visibility"
again: we are in tiki-admin_modules.php
tell me when you hgave that
rug: ok
fabricius: you could do the same with the other 5 menus and modules, but you do that later:
44->M2->C2 / 45->M3->C3 / 46->M4->C4
and so on
back to workgroup G1
you need a wikipage
we take P1
click the edit button
find a wiki editor with about three tabs on the top
2nd tab is "category" or "categories" or so
there click the tickbox besides "C1"
then back to the first tab
write something like: "this is the landing page of workgroup one"
save the wikipage
if everything is setup alright, you should see the menu 43 horizontally on top of your P1
if you change to another page, you do not see the menu 43
can you please try that and confirm?
43=>M1=>C1
P1=>C1
The category is the link between the page and the module
the module contains the menu
that's all to make it working in principle
everything else - for ex permissions and limiting to groups - is extra topping
rug: im setting it, and once done i ll confirm
thx
in visibility tab, category is filled by category name?
fabricius: better category Id
then it stays working, if you one day change the category name
name works, but Id is highly recommended
rug: ok
fabricius: I have to hurry up now ... how far you came?
you have 2 or 3 sets of module and menu and page?
43-M1-P1 / 44-M2-P2 / 45-M3-P3
all categorised
then switch between the pages P1, P2 and P3
you will see, that the menus switch aswell between 43, 44 and 45
I mean, if you have different menu items applied
if not, you wont see it obviously
*brb*
rug: ok
43-m1-p1 are all set
but I can't see the menus
fabricius: hmmm
P1=C1 ??
M1=C1 ??
menu is filled with at least one menu item?

rug check also these documentation pages:
doc.tiki.org/Module+Menu
And doc.tiki.org/Module
I would suggest that you first play in a simple wiki page to get your menu displayed as you would expect for your group of users
rug, in fact I would suggest that you first get it displayed in the page for your admin user. And only then, twrak the permissions to get it displayed to only the group of users you want
rug, permissions in Tiki for a new user tend to be tricky (very flexible and versatile system). Whenever you are at the point to play with permissions to suit your needs
... read this at least once: doc.tiki.org/Permissions

Polom
jonnyb?
jonnyb: moloq xavi-mobile
xavi-mobile: I think I have an answer to your question :-)
jonnyb: yay, thought you might xavi-mobile
am just on Skype to Geoff who also has a way to do it
eromneg: joined #tikiwiki
jonnyb: there he is, hi eromneg
xavi-mobile: You can achive that behavior if you make them create new pages through the header in a structure with apropriate perms in the struct homepage
jonnyb: i was trying that one, but then i just get "You do not have permission to edit this page."
xavi-mobile: You need to grant perm to edit structures globally plus locally in that structure
Afair, then it works
It shouldn't need to be that way, but...
jonnyb: hmmm, so they get edit_structure globally? doesn't sound great
xavi-mobile: Remember there is a pref to force that all pages in the structure be categ. together
Global perm: I agree. You need to remove it for them locally in the othet structures
jonnyb: hmmm...
xavi-mobile: I remember I had to use this workaround avfew vetsions ago to achieve that desired behavior
jonnyb: eromneg's solution is to grant edit globally but force categorisation into caters where only the correct group can edit (was that right?)
i wasn't intending to use structures (the client doesn't already) but i recall you had done it this way in the past (xavi-mobile)
xavi-mobile: mmmm, or maybe edit globally was the solution also? It was q while ago, i'm unsure right now....
But I got my students to create new pages within their structures and categs by default, without messing up all the other structures
jonnyb: hmmm, thinking i should code something better...
