hello - i got a Wiki newbie question about an old guy documentation problem
All I want to do is to get the Tiki 12.0 manuals as PDF and I am finding that to be impossible
I have tried all 3 techniques that I found and none of them give me more than 2 links to break in getting to the sub-pages
I have tried HTTrack Web Site Copier to at least get the pages on my local computer - all to no avail
[11:55]

lphuberdeauevents are not supposed to return values
they are not function calls, they are dispatch calls, they should have no side effect on the caller

xavihi marclaporte . I recall that you cited someone having some profiles in mind (mind-of)...
I was wondering in my own choice (by lack of feedback from others) is the best collection of working profiles to be included in the profile Wizard in the Tiki Setup process...
do you know of any other working profile that might fall within current categories (Featured, Useful , Demo), or others?
replacing a currently listed profile, or in addition...
this question is open to anyone, but since I remember that marclaporte said something about someone that might contribute some new profiles...

robertplummerlphuberdeau: Couldn't they have a callback function sent to them?
polom jonnyb
[19:52]
lphuberdeaurobertplummer: kind of goes against what they are designed for [19:52]
jonnybhi robertplummer [19:53]
lphuberdeauseems to me like you just need an interface and some indirection [19:53]
robertplummerlphuberdeau: Do you have any pointers that could assist me, or current models that would work?
jonnyb: How is it on the other side of the lake?
[19:53]
lphuberdeaubasic OO concepts? [19:54]
robertplummerlphuberdeau: That isn't what I mean, since php now supports anon functions, it would be easy to have a third argument on the event that is a callback, that is how they do it in jQuery most of the time, a different language, but very similar in a lot of ways to php (arguably).
you simply throw in a use $arg, and badda bing badda bip, a value is "returned".
[19:55]
lphuberdeauI just don't think triggering an event is the right dispatch method here
seems like you know what you want to call, so just call it
[19:56]
robertplummerI disagree, that is how both drupal and wordpress work.
Should we not follow the industry leaders?
I know, I've already implemented wikiLingo in those environments for parsing at this time.
[19:56]
lphuberdeauI think there isn't enough context for me to approve or disprove that statement
with event bindings, any number of functions can answer the call, getting multiple parsers to run seems like a bad idea
[19:57]
robertplummerhere is your context(s): https://github.com/wikiLingo
lphuberdeau: The idea is to be able to switch from one parser or the other depending on the need for the page. Existing pages will use the existing parser, no upgrade intended for the time being. If, however, there is a new page, and it has wikiLingo turned on, then it will be used.
[19:58]
lphuberdeauI don't see the need for events there [19:59]
robertplummerThat isn't the argument, the argument is I need a callback for an event, which is an industry standard. What I'm asking is hwo to best achieve that. [19:59]
lphuberdeauerr. you can bind callbacks on tiki events, that's the whole point [20:00]
robertplummerlphuberdeau: If you have time to offer to the integration of wikilingo in an experimental branch, then by all means, please join in the fun ;)
The issue is that I need a value at the trigger, not the binding.
[20:00]
lphuberdeauwhy don't you just use a factory to obtain the right instance of your parser to use?
it's not a dispatch pattern
[20:02]
robertplummerI didn't want to go to town hacking, and slicing and dicing tiki bits, I wanted to leave intact and touch as little code as possible. [20:03]
lphuberdeautwisting events to do things they are not designed to do will not help you in this objective [20:05]
robertplummerlphuberdeau: Though you are very right, after looking up about triggers a bit more, I need another layer of abstraction :'(
lphuberdeau: Thanks for rubber ducking, I think I may have it.
[20:05]
lphuberdeaugosh, if I knew you were rubber ducking, I wouldn't have spent time arguing [20:06]
robertplummerlphuberdeau: your arguments are always of validity, and shape the way I move forward with development lp. rubber ducking may not have been the right term. In any case, the force is strong with you. [20:08]
