is there an easy way to use tikiwiki as photo gallery where I can assign view/edit/tag/.. permissions to users/groups ?

chibaguyLordVan, I don't know other than using the gallery permissions. Would it work to have a gallery for each group? [14:40]
LordVanhm
mostly
although it'd be nice to have some photos only visible to individual people
but i guess I could work with a group based system
just need to assign people to groups instead of groups to galleries

jonnybAm i imagining it, or isn't there a way (in 12.x) to have rating "stars" on comments?
I switch it on (i thought) and all i get is a single radio button and a "rate" button (not really what the client is expecting ;)
[19:13]
marclaporteThe votes on comments are used for http://doc.tiki.org/Karma [19:15]
LordVanso anyway
about my earlier question about gallery
how would it work to set up galleries with group permissions?
[19:20]
jonnybhi LordVan - sorry, missed it - you mean file galleries i presume? [19:21]
LordVanlet me paste from earlier:
[14:27] LordVan is there an easy way to use tikiwiki as photo gallery where I can assign view/edit/tag/.. permissions to users/groups ?
[19:22]
jonnybyes, file galleries will do that
there is (sadly) still an old feature "image galleries" that should have been removed ages ago but no one's made a migration script
[19:23]
LordVanjonnyb, but file galleries have this file manager like look not a gallery style that i am looking for .. or is there an easy way to do that? [19:25]
jonnybthe galleries have a "browse" mode, which is for images
it generally needs some CSS work to get it to look nice though
[19:26]
LordVanok are there some (freely available) examples? [19:27]
jonnybhowever, sometimes it's easier to use the filegals to store the photos and use wiki pages with img plugins in to display them [19:27]
there should be quite a bit on doc.tiki.org (but it's down for me currently due to a DNS weirdness) [19:32]
Telesightjoined #tikiwiki [19:35]
LordVanimg plugin?
you mean something that will automatically insert them into a wiki page?
jonnyb, that looks nice yes
what i would like to have in addition is just an ability to comment on photos / tag them maybe
[19:44]
jonnybi think you can add tags ("freetags"), not sure about comments [19:49]
LordVank well i think i could make do with tags [19:49]
jonnybbut you could do all that with trackers [19:49]
LordVantrackers again .. ^ ^
taht seems like a complex subject
[19:49]
jonnybtrackers do everything! :) [19:50]
LordVanlol
i read a bit but was like .. hmm ok i don't have time for this now ^ ^
anyway regarding gallery i also am considering the one that comes with horde: http://www.horde.org/apps/ansel/screenshots looks nice ^ ^
[19:50]
jonnybunderstandable [19:51]
LordVanwhile i would really like to build my own i simply do not have the time
so now i am looking at what tikiwiki, horde,.. have to offer
;)
actually i only found the horde one by accident when i was looking for something completely different ;)
[19:51]
jonnybi thought horde was a webmail client [19:52]
LordVanthat was ages ago
it is more of a groupware now
and they have stuff like galleries and other sthings
[19:52]
jonnybif you specifically just want a photo gallery there probably are other, prettier single-task apps out there [19:52]
LordVanjonnyb, i know i am still looking
i am not against having something that can do more of course
i am not entirely happy with my drupal install at the moment either
quite a pain to upgrade .. with all the seperate modules,..
[19:53]
jonnybbut often projects like that tend to creep - can we have a discussion forum, or quizzes or user groups etc etc
yes, i've heard that
[19:53]
LordVanthat is definitely a pluspoint of tikiwiki .. one tar.gz/zip file and done
^ ^
[19:54]
jonnybDrupal was the last thing i evaluated (years ago) before plunging into tiki, i've heard upgrades are hard... [19:54]
LordVandid you look at the screenshots of the horde gallery? that does look like a nice interface .. of course i have no idea if it works exactly for me but the screenshots are pretty and the feature list looks good .. not sure if it all works as i think it does though ;)
jonnyb, the only reason i was reluctant about tikiwiki was mysql/mariadb since i personally prefer postgresql
[19:55]
jonnybi know what you mean, but have stopped thinking about that sort of thing :) [19:56]
LordVanhehe
well yes
i had looked at the tikifork as wella t some point
i think bitweaver was it?
[19:56]
jonnybwe did try to include postgresql in tiki but it failed, not enough people helping [19:56]
LordVanthat does support postgresql
hm
i could definitely do testing/debugging of postgres stuff
^ ^
[19:56]
jonnybnot sure if bitweaver is still being developed (much) these days [19:57]
LordVanno clue
their irc was rather quiet last time i lurked
that is why i went back to tiki for something again
btw
[19:57]
jonnybcan be rather quiet here too from time to time [19:57]
LordVanis there some (easy) way to import drupal blog posts and stuff to tiki?
i know
[19:57]
jonnybchecking the code commits is usually a good indication [19:57]
LordVanbut if it makes a difference to me if i can get anyone to at least answer me for a whole day or not [19:58]
jonnybtiki has importers from mediawiki and wordpress - but both are a bit old and quite basic [19:58]
LordVanI forgot what that page was called taht keeps track of commits on different FOSS projects [19:58]
jonnybso if you can get from drupal to WP maybe..? [19:58]
LordVanmeh [19:58]
jonnybohlo? [19:59]
LordVanah that one yes [19:59]
jonnybhmm, not quite - something like that [19:59]
LordVanohloh .. has changed to openhub ;) [20:00]
jonnybaha, not it's https://www.openhub.net
:)
[20:00]
LordVanbitweaver had last commit 2 months ago
horde 10 days
tiki 13 ;)
[20:01]
jonnybcoo, we're "very high" activity :) [20:01]
LordVanlol i forget they renamed freshmeat.net to freecode
^^
[20:01]
jonnybthat's just when they last updated [20:02]
LordVanwell yes
i wonder how difficult it would be to get tikiwiki look as nice as that horde gallery ^ ^
[20:02]
jonnybunusual for tiki nothing today, but i did a few yesterday
wonder if luciash is about (he makes tikis look nice!)
[20:03]
LordVanhehe
hm most photo gallery stuff on freecode seems to be not very much maintained
the thing is
while there are a lot of photo gallery web based solutions
not many seem to have things like permissions
and i *do not* want to post all photos publically
I used to do webpages for people but somehow web development started to annoy me -- mindyou that was the time of lots and lots of browser incompatibilities (just about when javascript started)
[20:05]
jonnyba while back then
htrml5 and jquery makes it all much easier than the old days
[20:12]
LordVanyeah
i am talking ~ 2000 ;)
would drive you nuts to get just about anything just look the same in IE and netscape
never mind opera ^ ^
[20:15]
jonnybi never had (minded Opera ;) )
never had a client willing to pay for debugging for it
[20:15]
LordVanhaha
i had to get things to work on IE 3, IE4 - later IE5 and a few netscape versions
o.o
oh also different versions of IE 5.x sometimes
makes you want to switch profession ;)
[20:16]
jonnybIE is still a challenge sometimes (of course) [20:17]
LordVanIE is *always* a pain ^ ^ [20:18]

BusMasterrefizul, so how should I proceed? [22:34]
nelsonkowell, some templates are edited
tpl files presumably
[22:34]
BusMasternelsonko, precisely [22:34]
refizulyou can clone the databse and try a parallel svn
so the old stuff is not altered by the svn
then you can test whether the problem persists in svn
[22:34]
BusMasterrefizul, clone? You mean something like: mysqldump db_name | mysql new_db_name ? [22:35]

2 Tikis on 2 databases

nelsonkoright, password [22:40]
BusMasternelsonko, yeah, that's exactly what I am experiencing.. and the email that I get (to the wrong address) has text that makes it appear as though the user has himself signed up and the admin is supposed to validate the account
