chibaguy fabricius : I updated https://tiki.org/Translation+workflow+using+transifex with info about why translation lines are commented out
[11:39]
chibaguyhi gezza. One thing I read was that the commented out lines are due to the php closing tag being missing. Is that still true? [11:42]
gezzano, that was dropped, transifex agreed with your arguements :) [11:43]

[11:43]
chibaguyCan the translation resource be refreshed at transifex? [11:44]
gezzait is because the original lang/en/language.php file has all line commented out [11:44]
chibaguyI see.
What's the solution then?
[11:45]
gezzayes, we can upload new version (even automatically update from svn) [11:45]
chibaguyBut the English lang file always has all or mostly all lines commented out. Does transifex ignore these comment-out characters?
Ah, but the English lang file shouldn't be involved (my mistake). It isn't being translated.
We just need to be sure transifex doesn't comment out lines that aren't already commented out, in other language files.
I don't know how the tiki project is configured at transifex, but it seems the English file shouldn't be involved.
...unless transifex can recognize that the English file is "special" due to its commented-out strings.
chibaguy wonders how the strings resource file is formatted, of other projects.
[11:47]
gezzajoined #tikiwiki
I think as the english language file is the resource (the base file) and the lines are there commented out that is why they are written back that way into the translations
as far as i understand, transifex you need to define a resource and you translate it to other languages
[12:01]
chibaguyYes, that sounds right, gezza. Looking at http://docs.transifex.com/formats/php/, I see a file like ours except lines aren't commented out.
So does an lang/en/language.php file without "//" on each string need to be made, to be the resource file, I wonder?
[12:05]
gezzayes, that is what i am thinking too
I create a new project with such a file and we can test
[12:07]
MagicFabjoined #tikiwiki [12:09]
chibaguyOk. And if that works, then we need a mechanism to produce such a file regularly, as the strings are updated. [12:09]

when I download "For use" version there are no commented out lines, untranslated lines are in english,
so thare are no more commented out lines, but I think it is ok this way
[13:08]
chibaguyok. I added ja language target to test with, too..
Hmm, 0% strings translated.

chibaguyok, I opened a new browser tab to see if the file was uploaded (and "uploading" dialog was just stuck), and it is there. But it shows 99% translated. Apparently this time it ignored forward slashes and considers all strings translated already. [13:34]
gezza_you have to "clean out" the ja translation file before uploading
how did you upload the file to the Tiki15 project?
maybe torsten cleaned it out, he did it for some languages
[13:45]
chibaguyAnd I looked at the "untranslated strings", picked one ("You have to create a gallery first"), and found that it _is_ actually translated already. So I don't know how transifex is determining what strings are translated and which aren't. There's an interface to delete translations of selected strings, so I guess that has to be done for all the "false positives". But what happens when the resources is updated? It'd have to manually
prepared again either locally or at Transifex.
[13:46]
gezza_so that they show real percentage [13:46]
chibaguyI didn't do anything to the file before uploading. [13:47]

chibaguyI wonder why now in tiki 14 (looking at tiki.org) there are two icons superimposed in the module titles - the cogs from before and now "exchange" also (a pair of horizontal arrows).
They are in two spans "moduleflip" and "moduleflip-vert" that seem to be redundant.
[14:27]
Not sure why the exchange icon wasn't showing before.
Apparently this is not a new change; last module.tpl file change in March shows both spans existing.
But I've always only seen the cogs icon, never the exchange one until just now at tiki.org
doc.t.o only has cogs
[14:35]
fabriciushi chibaguy: what are cogs [14:40]
chibaguygears
sprockets
[14:41]
fabriciusahh wheels with teeth !? [14:41]
chibaguyexactly ;-) [14:41]
fabriciusgreat
by the way chibaguy: working with LESS since yesterday
[14:41]
chibaguywhat do you think about it? [14:42]
fabriciusWOW much better than overwriting CSS in customCSS or in stylesheets - I expected that actually, as I was reading a lot of the priciples. Yet I did not really dare to take the time learning it and switching - having been afraid about installing and about understanding how it works
It is much easier than I thought
absolutely worth to work with it
Actually I got to the decision, when I accidentally lost as grown set of customCSS and did not want to recreate
Now I should get phpStorm
did complie a file with the command line and now with the GUI compiler Koala (which uses the commandline and tracks errors on the fly, what is really nice
[14:43]
aswell I did "invent" two new module zones on a site, changing classic layout to classic2 => horizontal very top bar full width background (no container) plus a topbar full width background (no container) with a fixed width layout active.
I think I am starting to get a clue and it is great to define the custom module zones' design with an extra less file ... makes things so easy
AND chibaguy: your link recently posted was very very helpful to understand the advanced basics of Bootstrap - great blog post this guy did write - coinsidently I did find (google) two more interesting and helpful blog posts by the same guy related to Bootstrap and Less (ex. workflow)

fabricius did you work on cleaning the japanese translation for transifex?
to have the real percentages
[15:19]
fabriciusHi gezza, I guess chibaguy did work on it -> chibaguy? [15:23]
gezzai was chatting with chibaguy, he did not remove the commented lines
just wanted to check before I spend time witht it
[15:24]
chibaguyI didn't do any file editing of the ja language file before uploading it to the new transifex test.
I don't know about the file for the first transifex project.
[15:24]
gezzachibaguy I uploaded translation, can you check? [15:38]
chibaguyok [15:38]
gezzaseems to be less, than in the other Tiki 15x project [15:39]
chibaguyyes, as I recall the other file was 12% vs 9% for this one.
What did you do to the file before uploading it?
[15:40]
gezzafabricius worked out a way: copy the array key => value lines into libreoffice calc, sort it by having the "//...." first, than delete them and copy back the leftover to the language.php file, than upload the translations
should be a one time thing
[15:43]
chibaguyDo you mean all the "//" are deleted? [15:46]
gezzaall the lines starting with // [15:46]
chibaguyI see. [15:46]
gezzanot just the two cahracters [15:46]
chibaguyok. [15:46]
gezzawhen downloading the translatiion for use, transifex adds back the lines that are not transleted [15:47]
chibaguyyes, I noticed that.
Hmm, this seems quite messy.
Too bad transifex doesn't understand Tiki's use of "//".
And respect it, etc.
[15:47]
gezzawell, i wonder what is the use of having // [15:51]
chibaguyIf everyone uses Transifex, maybe it's not needed, but for anyone translating the language file itself directly, it shows what needs to be translated. [15:52]
gezzait provides some visual help when working with the source file, but you can still find and translate items without that
i mean I an usually just searching for a string the I need to have translated
[15:54]
chibaguySo find the source string in the resource file, paste it into the target language file, and translate.
Or find the source string in the templates, etc.
[15:55]
gezzayou mean when translating directly in the eg: japanase file?
the untraslated strings will still be there
just without the //
they remain as an "english to english" translation
[15:56]
chibaguyhmm, I was thinking of them being removed, to prevent that needless "translation".
Just as they are commented out in the English file.
I don't know what the efficiency hit is, but seems good to avoid it.
[15:58]
gezzaif it was 100% translated tiki would have to manage it
so i dont see much difference
i mean the performance should not be consideration as we aim for 100% translation
[15:59]
chibaguyok :-) [16:04]
It seems to me that if we're making radical changes in the language files to accomodate using Transifex, the result should be only improvement, not a step backwards. And to me having thousands or even just hundreds of lines of en => en is a significant step backwards.
But I'll defer to the php/server experts on this point.
[16:14]

[17:03]
chibaguymsaad, sorry was eating. It depends on the situation. The div class="table-responsive" is needed for wide tables to be responsive (have a scrollbar) in small devices. Actually table class="normal" is a legacy class that isn't really needed. The "table" class Bootstrap expects for any data table. The hover and striped are extra but maybe useful. [17:06]
MagicFabjoined #tikiwiki [17:06]
msaadright, those are my thoughts as well. I'll remove the normal class
table-responsive should be inside the table itself, not on a div..
but that's my way of doing
bootstrap recommends doing on an outer div, so we'll stick to that :)
apparently I've been doing wrong o/
chibaguy: thanks :)
[17:07]
chibaguyTable-responsive goes on the surrounding div, to give it the scrollbar. Y'see we were mostly Bootstrap newbies when we started integrating it into Tiki, so we _had_ to use the Bootstrap docs constantly, and got to know them fairly well. ;-) [17:11]
msaadwhich are fairly well developed =]

msaadhave fun
So, I'm seeing title="{tr}According this order rules will be applied ('0' or empty = auto){/tr}"
and it could be rephrased to "Rules will be applied accordingly to this order ('0' or empty = auto)"
Is it just a matter of doing so on the template? Do I need to change the English translation file as well?
[17:15]
chibaguy(heh, didn't get away from the keyboard yet). Technically it should be done in the template and all the language files. Anyway, that's how I do it. [17:20]
msaad_all_ of them?
msaad gets startled.
[17:20]
chibaguyAh, I guess it can be done in the template only. There's a script to get all the translation strings. [17:20]
msaadmsaad phew, breathes again
thanks once again chibaguy. Your dog is waiting on you.
[17:20]

msaad(if anyone has further info on how to do it, I'll be happy to hear) [17:22]

fabriciushi friend, I have an odd problem in a Tiki14 -> I can see only the first level of my category trees when I edit a page -> no arrows or links, thus I cannot choose second or third level categories to categorise a wiki page (not yet ckecked with other features / in tiki-admin_categories it works well) <=> anybody a clue? gezzafabricius : probalby something local, works fine for me [20:46]
fabriciusI am thinking about s.th. with the theme right now, as my CustomCss etc. fields cannot change size anymore [20:47]
humm no not really
FUN !
gezza: I did temporarily switch off jqueryUI, then back on, but with jqueryUI theme = none
gezza: that was it => jqueryUI theme = start - works
[20:54]
gezzahmm, jquery ui is supposed to be set to something else than "none" [21:02]
.... (idle for 17mn)
fabriciusthe theme
tablesorter depends on jqueryUI, but not on a set theme ... other functionalities seem to depend on a theme
[21:19]
luciashwhen you choose none, you are supposed to create your own jquery-ui theme in the theme rollel on their site
roller
and then copy paste the resulting code to your own theme (integrate)

luciashany idea where (which file) are the preferences search keywords defined?
cannot find it and the theme option is missing in results for perspective
gezza: any idea?
[22:55]
gezzai noticed that too when lloking for fixed with setting
no idea why several preferences are not listed
[23:00]
luciashi think i spotted some kewords for whose it looks, like "theme" but apparently it is not set for theme option [23:00]
gezzawould need some deugging [23:00]
luciashdunno if it is worth of bug report [23:01]
gezzawould be good to find out
disappointing not to find all preferences there
[23:06]
luciashah, probably found it: https://dev.tiki.org/Create+a+new+preference#Descriptors
keywords
goes in lib/prefs/xx.php
example: 'keywords' => tra('brute force, brute-force, login failure, login-failure, failed logins'),
lets see if it will change anything
because https://dev.tiki.org/Create+a+new+preference#description says "name and description are indexed for searching. The quality of the text will impact the usefulness of the search."
so it should be enough even without keywords
[23:08]
gezzamaybe this: "'perspective' => false,"
i mean maybe it is set
for that preference
[23:19]
luciashnope
it is not set for theme_option
[23:20]
maybe it is tiki.org specific issue :-/ [23:29]
gezzai am off for now
bye
[23:30]
luciashtiki.org says "Your index was last fully rebuilt on Thursday 07 May 2015 04:00:01 GMT+2." - that maybe the reason not all prefs appear in the search results [23:31]
because it works on my localhost [23:36]
