jonnyb | hi chibaguy - how's it going? all settled in the new house? | [13:40] |
chibaguy | hi jonnyb. Funny you should ask - just came back from a day of bundling up old magazines and so on, trying to remove the last of our things from the old house. :-)
I think we'll still be at it until the end of the month. (Not enough time per day.) | [13:42] |
jonnyb | Well done, you'll get there in the end | [13:45] |
chibaguy | Yep, I believe so. | [13:46] |
jonnyb | I moved all my sites to a new sever over xmas and there's still one (tiki 3) site i can't get to work on new php etc :( just not enough hours etc... | [13:46] |
chibaguy | I see.
I wonder if amette has had a chance to check why doc.t.o is acting strange (time out error on page saves, can't upload files). "File upload failed: Gateway Time-out" | [13:47] |

Heyll eveyone, i am about to install tiki, and was wondering if anyone was around? | [16:22] |
fabricius | hello computron
any problems? how we can help? | [16:35] |
computron? | [16:47] | |
computron | hey
sorry was afk I have not started the install yet im still bringing the linux build online for the install. I was just wondering if there was anything i needed to lookout for, | [16:50] |
fabricius | hmmm
downloaded branch or svn? I strongly recommend svn | [17:01] |
computron | It will be on gentoo | [17:01] |
fabricius | gentoo can svn aswell | [17:02] |
computron | ahh | [17:02] |
fabricius | need to install svn on your linux
=> much much easier and faster installation and upgrades | [17:02] |
computron | ok will that come up as a pre-req when doing emerege? | [17:03] |
fabricius | https://dev.tiki.org/Get-code
what is emerege? | [17:03] |
computron | emerge, is the lifesaving installation way to a gentoo install
it looks like it is supported from the docs | [17:04] |
jonnyb | joined #tikiwiki | [17:04] |
fabricius | most providers have svn, but as you install your server from scratch, svn would be a prerequisite if you want to use it
do you know svn? | [17:04] |
computron | I do not
I know what it is have never used it | [17:05] |
fabricius | it is a version control system similar to git
you need only the code snippets from the above wiki page(s) copy paste | [17:05] |
computron | so is that recomended over using portage? | [17:06] |
fabricius | I do not know portage | [17:07] |
computron | gentoo, linux uses portage, its simillar to the distro system in red hat | [17:07] |
fabricius | tiki uses svn as version control system, thus you can install Tikis via svn
the gentoo installation level should not affect the php software level you need to install apache and mysql and php and svn on your gentoo and above that you install Wordpress, Tiki etcetera | [17:07] |
computron | so normally with gentoo, I can install a package that is in portage, which it looks like tiki is, by simply doing "emerge tikiwiki" it will locate all the pre-requisits, and install | [17:09] |
fabricius | so imho portage and emerege have nothing to do with your Tiki, neither affect it | [17:09] |
computron | so I am looking at the gentoo install in the manual | [17:10] |
fabricius | I do not know, wether gentoo has integrated Tiki in it's packages | [17:10] |
computron | https://doc.tiki.org/Install-on-Gentoo | [17:10] |
fabricius | first Time I hear such thing | [17:10] |
computron | it looks like it has... but the update is old | [17:11] |
fabricius | ahh .. nice one ... I am more on debian based yorks
never stopping to learn | [17:11] |
computron | I have always used gentoo, i have gotten so spoied by it.
so, i am looking at building basically a data repository, and it looks like tiki can do everything i need it to do, is there a way to build pages that are forms? | [17:11] |
fabricius | you can easily create forms by using the feature Trackers ... then put a tiny wikiplugin with few or many parameters on a wiki page and you have "built a page that is a form" ... you can still add other stuff to the form or leave the form as is
Sometimes i use Tabs one tab contains the form the other tab contains the output, ex table or custom search form start small and extend continuously | [17:19] |
computron | so my goal, is to move a bunch of data from multiple clients, to a clean system, so i am hoping i can build a template, and then duplicate that template and then load it with client data. | [17:22] |
fabricius | use trackers to collect the data and wiki pages to display the tracker result
I have to go out of the house - coming back later | [17:23] |

jonnyb | :) | [19:48] |
fabricius | how things are going? | [19:48] |
jonnyb | you ok? | [19:48] |
fabricius | sick

jonnyb | i'm fine, just off out
ew, sorry to hear | [19:48] |
fabricius | ah nice
yeah me to. bed and medication | [19:49] |
jonnyb | get well soon! :) | [19:49] |
fabricius | thx
after next weekend likely good for my npos sitting in bed all day and ticking tasks mainly administration and websdev, but also board stuff - very prodcuctive for the npos when sick at home oh and bad typing ahh jonnyb: listen what happened: my cool i7 16 gb tuxedo laptop finally broke apart completely ... never ever again by a non-ThinkPad or Apple or non-Apple I mean | [19:49] |
jonnyb | sad to hear, they don't last for ever (or in fact... long enough) | [19:53] |
fabricius | I was travelling and quite outraged and out of ideas how to get back up and running for a number of projects relying on me and my data
BUT | [19:53] |
computron | i have to say i love my dell hardware... | [19:54] |
fabricius | just for whatsoever I took my old SL 300 centrino ThinkPad and swapped the ssd harddisks and started the ThinkPad
guess what happened jonnyb it just works as if I had installed and worked on it since ever | [19:54] |
jonnyb | sorry, another time fabricius - have to go out now (well, in 3 minutes and have an email to send first | [19:55] |
fabricius | nothing to reinstall
just started worked no prob - story ends here happily anyway have a nice evening bubu jonnyb | [19:55] |
jonnyb | good good, more tomorrow! :) | [19:56] |
fabricius | computron: on your side all working well?
installation wise on track? | [19:56] |
computron | I just brought the OS online
so just about to see how it goes | [19:57] |
fabricius | ok | [19:57] |
computron | well it seams the install docs are wrong... | [19:58] |
fabricius | by the way, when you install the Tiki, put the tikiroot in an extra folder as a container and a files folder besides it:
myproject/tiki myproject/files then the domain to myproject/tiki and never a domain pointing to any folder above myproject, but for example to any myotherproject/bla/bla the domain issue is not so important locally, but on a public server just saying | [19:58] |
computron | well this is upsetting...
fabriciusdo you know if any of the installation instructions are accurate for any of the os systems listed in the guid? | [20:02] |
........... (idle for 54mn)
fabricius i am going to work this on a debian install instead of gentoo, it seems a little less complicated and easier to restore if i need to in the future. | [20:59]
.... (idle for 17mn) | ||
is anyone around? | [21:16]
fabricius | polom

computron | ok, when you get a minute, im trying to follow the guide here but it seems extreemly old. | [21:24] |
