MAvL: Hi guys
Benjamin1, great you developing a Plex app for ClearOS!
Benjamin1: Developed...past tense! ;-)
Just waiting on Pete's Network_Map app to hit Community Repos.
MAvL: You finished the app already?
Benjamin1: Yup.
MAvL: Nice!
Benjamin1: Wasn't anything to it...Plex are very friendly to RH/CentOS distro.
MAvL: Peter told me to check the build server
okay
then i saw the Plex app
Benjamin1: If you you a 6.5beta *Professional* you can install it.
Since Pro has access to Pete's network mapping library.
If you are running Community, you have to wait on him to do that.
MAvL: i'm not on 6.5 beta yet
dave told me to wait
Benjamin1: My 'contribution' to Plex was to put an ACL feature on top...which I used Pete's mapping library to accomplish.
Hence, the dependency.
I like to see apps (even if they are free) to have some value-add from the ClearOS community, if at all possible.
MAvL: ACL feature?
Benjamin1: Eg. prevent my friend or babysitter from accessing all my media (family pics, bad music collection etc.) if I give them WAP access.
MAvL: ah, okay
ACL --> Access Control List
Benjamin1: Yup.
MAvL: When can we expect a release of 6.5 pro?
Benjamin1: As soon as RedHat release 6.5 final, we'll be able to turn around and produce release candidates.
with a week, I'd imagine.
6.5 Pro beta is out.
MAvL: okay didn't know RHEL hasn't released yet
yes i notice
App development from the community is a bit slow
Tim does good things!
Benjamin1: I guess it's all relative...
MAvL: for myself i have no programming experience.., besides a bit basic
that was on a MSX
Benjamin1: I'm seeing 3-4 guys giving it a try in last 3 months alone.
Which is more than we ever saw under ClarkConnect and first year of Clear.
MAvL: true
but we now have a better framework
if i understand correctly it's easier to make apps
Benjamin1: I think it's still a pretty steep learning curve. I think Tim B. just happens to be a bit like Darryl in that he's hardwired to pick up on everything tech. But for others, we take for granted the benefits of always working together.
MAvL: when you do this together you can help each other
but it's cool when you can programming
i have respect for those guys
