I've a question
My question relates to the extremely slow large nested file galleries
I've implemented Sylvieg's patch to speed up the file galleries when the explorer is off
and it has worked tremendously, but I would like to know how to cache the file gallery structure so that the explorer can be activated and have the speed by not recreating the explorer tree each time I move from one gallery to another.

everybody can see the fgals

there are a few with heavy permisions on them
The speed is important, but many of the users used the "breadcrumbs" to jump between directories...and that does not work with the explorer turned off.

liquidapeI have another request regarding file galeries that is much less urgent. But I think would help catagorization a lot. Right now, if you go to the "parent gallery" setting within the "edit file gallery listing", there is a drop down menu containing all of the file galleries. This list gets pretty darn long when you have 3000 + galleries...not only that, but many of my galleries have the same names as other
Of course it's not urgent, because I do have a workaround :-)
[22:08]
sylvieg1yeh - but do you have a good interface idea to do that [22:10]
liquidapeI have not put a lot of thought into it. It would be nice to have an option to show directory structure within the dropdown. So an entry would be like ProjectA->Status Reports->January
So, it would not make the listing shorter...it would still be 3000 long, but you could tell where each subfolder was in the tree.
[22:12]
sylvieg1this is easy to do... [22:13]
liquidapeeasy is good [22:13]
sylvieg1but I do not have the need - I have 100 fgals without structures...

I'm only marginally familiar with the tiki codebase
Yeah, my file gallery has 3000+ galleries and grows by roughly 25 galleries every other week or so
[22:14]
marclaportemarclaporte is curious as to what liquidape is storing.... [22:18]
liquidapei'm storing mostly word document and reports [22:19]
sylvieg1you must be a large organization? [22:19]
liquidapeyou could say that
:-)
very very large game company
[22:19]
sylvieg1so how many file do you have? [22:20]
liquidapeoh geez...easy way to look that up? [22:20]
sylvieg1sylvieg1 is scared to reach system limit with number of files in a directory..
number of entries in tiki_files table or number of files in the directory if you use a directory
[22:20]
liquidapejust under 7k files
atm
[22:22]
sylvieg1it is waht I have [22:22]
marclaporteliquidape: surely you will run into other bugs with that volume [22:22]
liquidapebut it grows by roughly 25/day
it's mostly daily reports and stuff
[22:22]
sylvieg1be very carefull to save your files.... once a while I have files that disappear - I do not know if it it the system - or tikiwiki [22:23]
liquidapeso far it has worked well, besides the huge slowdown of the gallery [22:23]
sylvieg1but it is very easy to do a batch that save all the files [22:23]
liquidapeyeah, the files are stored on a central server that is backed up nightly by the corporate IT
I basically just backup the databases nighty
I've seen no disapearing files yet...*crosses fingers*
[22:24]
sylvieg1an easy check is to see if the number of files in the directory is not going done (if no file delete is occuring) [22:25]
liquidapeI also confess, I think that people only look at the files once when they are uploaded for a day and never look at them again.
sorry if I am sometimes vague in describing what I am doing...I'm under very strict NDA and have to be careful about what I reveal.
[22:25]
sylvieg1I think we gessed it ;-) [22:27]
liquidapehaha, thanks for the understanding:-) [22:27]
sylvieg1when there is data - it is confidential [22:28]
liquidapeit's nice to have some people to talk to who know this code though. I've had nobody to talk to about any issues I've had before. The forums are not very active and the bug trackers are kinda hit or miss I've noticed.
I had to pull strings with IT to get in here:-)
they lock out IRC for security
[22:30]
marclaporteliquidape: : we don't want to know who you are or what you do, we just want your bug fixes :-) [22:33]
lphuberdeau_I only figured out there were support forums a few months ago, and I have been with the project for years - still not looking at them [22:34]
liquidapeok, i'd love some opinions on the difficulty of implenting this feature: basically, our workflow goes like this: 1. leads fill out paperwork 2. upload paperwork to proper folder in filegal 3. then link the file to a wiki page for thier current project. (The wiki page has the same structure as the file gallery structure, but being a "webpage", you can see every file for the project on one page) I feel that
Sorry if I'm unloading a lot of ideas at once...I've been working with tikiwiki for about a year now with nobody to talk to about anything:-P
[22:43]
marclaportehahahaha [22:46]
lphuberdeau_where are you located? [22:46]
marclaporteliquidape: I wish you had come earlier! [22:46]
sylvieg1secret.. [22:46]
marclaportemarclaporte guesses Europe [22:47]
liquidapeLA [22:47]
marclaporteor Amercia
;-)
[22:47]
sylvieg1you have a plugin FILES or something like taht
it will give you the tree
[22:48]
lphuberdeau_feel like taking the plane to Montreal next week? [22:48]
sylvieg1after you have to do the connection between galleryId and page name [22:48]
lphuberdeau_http://tikiwiki.org/TikiFestMontrealNov2008 [22:49]
sylvieg1if filegal never change name - a param to add to the FILES plugin [22:49]
liquidapehaha, I'd love to come to montreal, but I have a hard time thinking the company would expense it for me:-)
specially on short notice
[22:52]
marclaporte4 days of: Everything You Always Wanted to Know About TikiWiki * But Were Afraid to Ask [22:55]
GillesMMhello [22:55]
marclaportepolom GillesMM [22:55]
GillesMM:) [22:55]
marclaporteGilles "svn diff" Maire :-)
So Gilles: we go to London!
Gilles: I am __so__ happy with the new alert feature you are working on
[22:55]
GillesMMmy problem is I use KDE with samba or sftp and I am not alerted when a file is changed [22:56]
marclaporteliquidape: GillesMM's new alert feature could be useful to your workflow [22:57]
GillesMMbefore I worked locally and I was alerted after svn update tha file was changed befor svn commit
marclaporte: the alert is finished for calendar trackers and file galery I have to do mails ... with notifications
[22:57]
marclaporteGillesMM: : cool! [22:58]
liquidapethat does sound cool [22:58]
GillesMMnow you receive a simple mail [22:58]
marclaporteliquidape: : did you check our trackers? [22:58]
liquidapefor upcoming developments? [22:59]
***raji1 has quit IRC ("Leaving.") [22:59]
marclaporteno
just if you used...
trackers are very flexible and powerful
once you use and understand, you see many many uses
[22:59]
liquidapeoh, yes...I've looked at the feature [23:00]
marclaportedo you use?
you can attach files to trackers
and have status
so can be used as workflow
[23:00]
liquidapenot really. But I was looking at them in the light of a "bugtracker" . We already have a very robust system for that.
It might be good for workflow on files though
I had not thought of it in that light
[23:01]
marclaporteSee them as form generator [23:01]
liquidapeI'll look into that [23:02]
marclaportethey are like end-user programming (when combined with wiki) [23:03]
liquidapeIs this the fgal plugin you guys were referring to? http://dev.tikiwiki.org/tiki-view_tracker_item.php?itemId=1757&trackerId=5&show=view
or here: http://doc.tikiwiki.org/tiki-index.php?page=PluginFiles&structure=Documentation
[23:03]
marclaporteyes, that was improved for a company we can't identify [23:09]
liquidape:-)
your sounding like me!
