cnd: There are items in the menu which you can't see as an anonymous user because you're not a member of the Group which can see them.
cnd: There also is one Level 0 menu which simply doesn't appear because you don't have permission for it.
cnd: It's all handled in the menu permissions, I only set the permissions and it behaved that way.
cnd: So other menus should behave similarly.

TheDayAfter: We work in my company on the translation for germany...
It is possible to strukture the file in sections... 1. translation for the general translation, the sections for module, like tracker, blog etc...
ricks99: probably. i don't think that the order of items in the the language php file matters.
but, don't you think that A-B-C order would be better? This way you can easily find duplicates.
it would make it easy to see if terms (or similar terms) were already translated
especially considering that most terms appear in more than one "section"
TheDayAfter: yes used in more then one section we found many items
But when we translate the file we often need the kontext of use...
So we translate and must look to the part of the tw where it was used
ricks99: hm... wondering how tw handles a translation that appears more than once in the language php file... ?
TheDayAfter: we want to consult the tw in germany.
ricks99: how does tiki know the proper context if you have 2 (or more) possible translations?
TheDayAfter: thats the great question...
it is a good solution to have one file, but it is a way to go to make a file in any section it will be used?
ricks99: need to check.. but i think the *last* entry wins if there are multple translations
TheDayAfter: thats mor work for the translation, but we can control the Frontend better...
an other solution was the way to create a mod to have a frontend page to translate the file
ricks99: u know abou the db translation option, right? u can do translations through the GUI
sylvieg: need some dev for the context - look in devel list - where there was a very good plan to do it - need volunteer to do it
ricks99: instead of editing the file
TheDayAfter: Then also costumer can make changes on it, so we must extract the file copy it to the computer of the translater, he has no known about linux and apache...
i have see this solution in other software
wher is the gui?? i am stupid?
sorry my english is not the best, but i hope you understand me

it is a popup with all the names of the variables
{$pref.debug} maybe?
sylvieg: if it is the smarty function you are looking for it is {debug} in a tpl
I am thinking about the feature debug_console
SEWilco2: I think debug_console defines a variable and a class which lets debug code emit messages for display in the console.
I haven't used it enough to have memorized the debug output command; I wrap each message in a test for the debug variable, whatever its name is.
cnd: chibaguy2 / SEWilco2 - Thanks! I was approaching with the wrong paradigm in mind.
SEWilco2: Ah, here it is..
if(defined($debugger)) $debugger->msg("Logged in, status " . $status);
cnd: It's possible I'm also using the wrong paradigm. debug_console is not well documented, but I found one use of $debugger->msg().
And if someone is on the floor laughing at what I'm doing, we can expect to hear from them when they recover in a few minutes.
This also works: $debugger->var_dump('$children');
I'm working on image EXIF data. Is there a format parsing function which can help substitute a format string such as "$Desc (by $Author)"?
-: SEWilco2 looks for Smarty-to-string function.

cnd: Can the default session length be extended? We were training a class of 40 teachers on using Tikiwiki yesterday, and due to us explaining things - almost everyone experienced a "lost edit" from expired sessions. All these teachers will themselves be training more people this same way - so nipping this in the bud is a good idea.
(yes - "remember me" is an option - almost nobody picks it tho... remember - this is a classroom with shared PCs - so they all (rightfully) assumed that's not the right option to select...)
Hmm - would this be a PHP "feature" rather than a wiki one maybe ?
Hmm - I wonder if this was it (php.ini)
session.gc_maxlifetime = 1440
Says that's 24 minutes tho... which *seems* more than what we experienced.

I don't know if anybody can help me or not, I have been using TW for a while on my own site, but a site I am a member of is wanting to switch away from SMF
and I am trying to help them figure out if there is a way to migrate from SMF to TW easily
I couldn't find much of anything in the docs
erm hello?
sylvieg: smf as simple machines forum?
claireducky: yes, sorry
sylvieg: do they have export feature?
claireducky: I am not an admin at the site considering switching, so I have no idea
never used SMF as an admin before
SEWilco2: claireducky: See if the SMF documentation is online.
sylvieg: we have some csv import but not for all features
claireducky: searching now
***: Amorphous has quit IRC (Read error: 60 (Operation timed out))
sylvieg: we have a couple of wiki, tracker, user importers in a csv format or xml format
but if you have no export in this format...
claireducky: I saw that, and the users list can be put into csv
the main thing they are concerned with is the forum posts
it is a very active site with a few thousand members, there are about 3 years of posts on the boards
sylvieg: we have a forum import - I never use it
we have a xml wiki page importer - and as forum post = wiki comment - it must be easy to adapt
claireducky: ok
I don't need the specifics at the moment, just trying to help them figure out if it is feasible or not for them to convert
I love my TW, and they wanted to go to myBB until I recommended TW instead
sylvieg: there is nothing out of the box with forum but if you have a xml form of the forums should not be a big deal to adapt the wiki xmp importer
s/xmp/xml
claireducky: is that something I would post on the script request board when we are ready
I am not confident enough in my skills to adapt it myself
sylvieg: I will go for the devel mailing list for more response - and there is a list of consultants to hire
claireducky: oh excellent
sylvieg: now you have to find out how you can export the data fromSMF
claireducky: i am reading the SMF forums
it appears you can export the database somehow
they have a few bridging tools for other CMS platforms
sylvieg: (we have no forum exporter in tw yet)
yeh but the database it will be hard because you have to know the structure that is not semntic
***: Amorphous has joined #tikiwiki
sylvieg: kerrnel22 began the forum importer from a database - I never look at it - perhaps you can contact him directly or ask what is this feature - perhaps it is only a trunn feature
claireducky: Yeah I saw that post I think
well, I appreciate your help sylvieg
I need to run for now, but I will stop back in with more questions another time, I'm sure
sylvieg: :-)
claireducky: thanks!
