I keep trying to make things work but i dont think I have to time to keep trying to fix so many things before being able to have a working site. I curse the person that told me to use 3.x instead of 2.x :)

spoonypjk: marcla: I was trying to be pretty open minded and overlooking some things that I really wanted (like google maps which dont work properly etc) because of some of tw's awesome features (like trackers).. but just keep running across showstoppers that I cant "launch" with (even though the sites for a closed group of people, it still has to work). Do you think I'd be better off going back to 2.x?
chibaguy: spoonypjk, do you have a 2.3 installation, or can you install it, and see if it has what you need?
spoonypjk: chibaguy: I had a 2.3 install but after installing 3.0 concurrently was unable to login to it (shared session name? cookie problem? something like that I assume).. I can easily reinstall it though.
marclaporte: interface on 3.0 is nicer
but more bugs
chibaguy: Probably during the beta period isn't a good time to decide between 2.3 and 3.0. Lots of bugs are getting fixed.
Of course people say never trust a .0 release ;-).
spoonypjk: yeah. I was really liking 3.0.. but it seems like each bug I hit is something that makes it hard to use if I was to open it up to the group... the inability to easily use the file library browse interface is the latest one (so makes it hard for people to upload images in a wiki or blog etc).
chibaguy: yeah I've started the evaluation during the worst possible time :)
3.0 is further enough in that it makes you not necessarily want to use 2.3.. but not far enough in to be useable (I'm sure for lots of sites its usable.. but I'd actually like to use a bunch of the features).
the fact that I was also evaluating bw at the same time (being new to bw and tw.. of course you want to install both to eval both of them)... so I've had that to complicate things :) (ie. xx and yy works great in bw.. but it lacks a,b,c and d which tw does great).
chibaguy: what was the problem with the file gallery? a url like tiki-list_file_gallery.php?view=browse&galleryId=1 ?
spoonypjk: yeah.
no thumbnail gets displayed for the images in there in this vers.. and there's overlap in most themes on some of the checkboxes/options. checking which ones
chibaguy: That's on my list to take a look at.

chibaguy: Hmm, seems to work ok. See http://zukakakina.com/tw3/tiki-list_file_gallery.php?view=browse&galleryId=1
spoonypjk: does it also work okay if you're in a wiki page and you access the file gallery via the "add image from file gallery" button?
chibaguy: Heh, just found something weird: that url works, but starting from "list galleries," no galleries found.
well, I don't have "use filegallery for wiki image" turned on, so can't check that right away.
spoonypjk: where do you upload your wiki images to?
chibaguy: they go to the img/wiki_up directory.
That's been the default.
spoonypjk: and yeah im trying to sort out permissions at the moment (I had the file galleries locked down but I think ive overidden the permissions for anonymous and its messing things up at the moment). The testing I've been doing has been on the admin account, I hadnt opened that part up properly for the other groups or anonymous. (was trying to make it available to testuser2 just then).
chibaguy: But then the option to use the file gallery was added.
spoonypjk: anonymous could view files but not list galleries etc (which is what I wanted) but I think I affected testuser too. (but as I said these overlapping and no thumbnail tests are being done with admin.. so I can see the name of the file, and list the galleries and everything.. not a permission issue with admin).
do you upload to wiki_up outside of the wiki? and then go in and add images manually or something?
chibaguy: No, on my wiki edit page there's "Upload picture:" and clicking "choose" opens my local drive dialog.
When I choose and preview or save, the file is uploaded to img/wiki_up...
spoonypjk: ah.
chibaguy: There's an admin choice for this somewhere but I always have trouble finding it, for some reason.
Seems like it'd be on admin wiki or admin file galleries.
spoonypjk: The file gallery stuff had been working fine I think in b1. pretty sure. and b2 made little tool and zip icons etc overlap with the "perform action with checked" and cant see the checkboxes or thumbnail. its the same for most themes that I tried.
I'll take a look at the admin wiki section too tho to see the alternative.
chibaguy: Oh yeah, the checkbox is on tiki-admin.php?page=textarea.
(the inevitable location of admin options that can't be found where you expect them to be.)
(or maybe it's me being inflexible ;-) )
What browser(s) are you using?
spoonypjk: firefox on linux, also is broken on ie7 on xp.
and firefox on xp.
(ff 3.08)
ie7 doesnt have as much overlap. and displays a "[X]" red X for the image, (the others show nothing for the image)
chibaguy: Can you try viewing http://zukakakina.com/tw3/tiki-list_file_gallery.php?view=browse&galleryId=1 ?
caralluna: spoonypjk: Do you need browsertesting? I have 10 browsers installed on my mac ;-)
spoonypjk: yeah I checked that out earlier and you're right, that ones fine.
caralluna: hah. at the moment the only account I can test it out under is admin.. going to cleanup some permissions in a minute so I can recreate the problem publically. handy to know tho :)

voraistos: Hi
is it possible to have different tiki instances use the login facilities of one tiki ? (provided all instances use different dbs)
Also I saw sumo want to have a language attribute in the URL
I did some work on that and got something working
If anyone want to see I'll go dig for my changes.
xavi: voraistos: review Intertiki feature (that's what it is for)
voraistos: k.
xavi: share login between tikiwikis (one master, other slaves)
voraistos: intertiki != multitiki ?
xavi: yes, !=
there should be some documentation at http://doc.tikiwiki.org/InterTiki
voraistos: found it
xavi: ok. and review the MultiTiki page, if needed, so that you see the differences
voraistos: lang attribute in url: if it's usegful for you in a real scenario/community, i t might be useful for others too. In that case, I would suggeest you to commit your code (provided it's made optional)
voraistos: well, it's not optional, though it could be made optional
also, it does change quite a few things
xavi: any doc.tw.o geek (editor) around?
voraistos: AND problem is, my code is very likely to be shit (and all of the features which require to have lang= in url must be changed)
xavi: voraistos: why did you made that change? I mean, what were you missing in order to make those changes?
voraistos: I wanted a multilingual tiki that actually works
xavi: do you think that your improvements would be also needed by other communities?
etc.
voraistos: also having a language attribute in the url means it can be urlrewritten to tw.org/language/wiki/
xavi: the sumo guys want to do it
http://dev.tikiwiki.org/tiki-index.php?page=performance
also I agree the caching in http headers must be corrected
http accelerators don't work with tiki, and since tiki is heavy and slow it would really be a plus
xavi: I would say that yes, on a multilingual community, it might be handy to be able to link to a specific page/section in an specific language...
voraistos: it also means that tiki can be properly indexed by search engines
I also suspect that the language tags in the html are mixed up
xavi: so you are very welcome if you make your improvements optional and commit your changes to either 3.0 or trunk (not sure if 3.0 is feature freeze already or not - it was not a week ago)
voraistos: I don't know...
I'm not very confident about my coding abilities
I'm just a dirty hacker

xavi: :-)
check svn tips at dev.tw.o
voraistos: yes I'll read that
xavi: and also some gui program to make it handy/easy ...
kdesvn, or tortoisesvn, ... (depending on your platform)
those are easy programs to help you commit just your modified files, etc. through point anc click....
voraistos: any good gtk2 clients you recommend
?

voraistos: hmm I can't rememberhow I did it, but I have a tiki3b1 which out of index.php?language=en&feature=wiki displays the homepage(wiki)
languae switching works perfectly (detection of the euivalent page in the other language, switches content and interface language)
oh no. I managed to break it. damn :P
xavi: gtk2: no idea. searh your distro's repos. I would suggest kdesvn
voraistos: ^ (sorry, I've been out for some time)
voraistos: I might as well install this one ;)
I think I'm going to just play around with tiki, transform it into... stuff, so I learn my way around, then I'll help out with v4, there's just no point in adding features (like those I want) to tiki3 now.
btw, why is there a preferences:language in the db ?
it seems useless
***: nevali has joined #tikiwiki
voraistos: as there is a site-language prefs as well (and $prefs['language'] is modified depending on various things, else site-lang == lang
therefore this shouldn't exist in the db
or maybe it's because the $prefs is just a copy of the db. yes I see now
oh but there is a php file doing this too. (but I think this one is used to populate the db, in case a new feat. is added). right ?
xavi: voraistos: I'm not the person to answer this questions you have.
I would suggest you to send them to the tikiwiki devel list
voraistos: what do you do for tiki ?
xavi: use it :-)
voraistos: your name is everywhere on the doc :D
xavi: and help a bit by improving documentation....
and attempting to encourage every user to participate, contributing back to the community.... with whatever skills they have
and from time to time (long ago, right now), provide support on forums or lists
voraistos, where are you from?
for what you said you coded, you seem to belong to a multilingual country/community...
(so do I)
voraistos: I'm french, and live in the UK
I want a site that supports a few languages
xavi: ah, ok
voraistos: where are you from ?
xavi: Barcelona
sylvieg , nkoth3 : intertiki seems not to be passing group info from tw.o to doc.tw.o nowadays....
nkoth3: hmm
since when?
xavi: :-/ check: user lindon on tw.o...
no idea
I just noticed
lindon on tw.o is already assigned to DocTwoEditors
but on doc.tw.o, that user lindon is only assigned to Registered...
and thus, he cannot use the perms he should get as granted from tw.o
I have to disconnect.
Sylvieg, your fix to action log (so that categoried acn be edited) works very well. I did backport it to 2.x, but I'm hesitant to commit to 2.x, since it's not a security fix, etc. Maybe not (I'll use it myself just on my 2.x production site)
