I plan to institute a ratings system wherin trusted members can rate edits
and an objective standard of a certain negative rating will then result in ban
for instance i see a user replace all instances of 'the' with a cuss word, 2 administrators rate that edit -100, and anyone with a -200 score is automatically banned

My frustration for today: The page-top search bar is positioned something like this: div#header-top {position: relative} div#sitesearchbar {position: absolute; right: 10px; bottom:3px}...
...in all the themes in Tiki 3....
...IE7 puts div#sitesearchbar in radically different places in each theme.
so the puzzle is what else is affecting IE7's behavior, or does IE7 just do things randomly?
Also the module-flipping icons aren't working right, again, in IE7. Don't recall doing anything to cause that.
Also the log-in form is misplaced again in Strasa in IE7.

It seems to me that there has got to be something fundamentally wrong with IE, I've seen alot of webapps, most having special adaptations for IE7 ...very seldom for other browers

It's hard for me to figure out. When IE7 was being worked on, their devs were writing blogs, etc. about being aware of standards and trying to do things logically in IE7.

so it discourages people from using other OS's or browsers etc.
Things are getting interesting with IE8. It actually can render according to standards pretty well.
Ordinary people (which makes up the majority of computer users these days).. couldnt care less about web standards.. they just want stuff to work.. and because most of them run it in IE.. they want it to work on IE.. and because thats where the biggest market is.. people code it just for IE.
That's probably because MS are also trying to get their hooks into people with things like silverlight..
So they try to relax their bastardisation of web standards.. by hooking people into proprietary application platforms..
And application platforms is probably where most people will live eventually.
And it goes beyond the internet.. their corporate web products are an abomination (ala MOSS / Sharepoint).. barely usable in anything other than IE
At work I work with probably 60-70% MS.. wish it was a lot less :).
dont even get me started on their business practices and patent raping :)
people at work get sick of hearing me bitching about MS.. But someone has to do it..

That raises an interesting question, caralluna -- what is the right response for IE, for our project. Sometimes you hear "just abandon support for IE..."
heh. I will genuinely acknowledge when they produce a good quality product.. so I balance it out with criticism for everything else.
But I'm afraid that will only make us look bad : "look, they can't even support ie browsers properly" kind of thing.
Personally I think you'd be crazy to not implement IE workarounds for TW.. a product like TW needs to be as accessible as possible.
I've hated m$ for years, and I'll keep at it ;-)
I think we can hate ms, but still should support the users as much as possible.
Something that would be nice is an ongoing count somewhere in the docs or during the installation process.. or a "module" that you can turn on (maybe under STATS module) that shows how many IE workarounds have been implemented.

I agree chibaguy, most of the users that will be "using" TW (ie. not the admins/people setting it up) will probably need to use IE at some point.. or they already do and just dont know any better.

Can anyone help with a customer Menu i've setup? I wanted some handy admin links to show up for my ADMIN (default admin) group and my semi-admin group I created. The module shows up for the semi-admin group, but the menu itself is empty for semi-admin
the module itself is assigned to both groups, and all options/sections of the menu are assigned to both groups
I think if the module is assigned to both groups one needs to be a member of both groups to see it?
I may be mixing things up ...

None of the css-validating hacks I used or can find are working now. I found an illegal one that does, but would like to avoid non-valid css.
I can add a conditional comment to header.tpl to load a stylesheet for ie7, but don't know if this is the best Tiki practice.
