[10:04]
chibaguyBeestje, it depends on the theme
Biggest problems will be for themes that used the old tiki.tpl template.
In Tiki 3, the default tiki.tpl uses divs rather than table for main layout.
[10:06]
Beestjeah, k [10:07]
carallunaMy impression is that the themes that is in 2.x that is not in 3.x will not be maintained ... is that correct? [10:07]
chibaguyRight, not in their old form anyway.
It'll be fairly easy to get the visual look by doing theme options.
[10:07]
carallunaI really think there should be more themes in 3.x, though I understand if it takes a lot of time to maintain them [10:09]
chibaguyFor instance, at http://zukakakina.com/tw3/ you can choose Tikinewt, then choose a theme option. These options could have appearance of old themes.
We want to have not too many included themes, but make it easier to create variations, etc.
Plus I've got a scheme worked out where there'll be a layout.css file that a new custom theme can include, and thus get most/all the layout-type css taken care of.
So making a new theme should be a lot easier.
This'll be documented pretty soon.
[10:10]
Beestjepersonally, I think that many people use a different cms because of the nice themes that are available for them. [10:12]
carallunagood :-) I really want a good dark theme for 3.x, and I don't like darkroom because of too much space between lines [10:12]
chibaguyyes, more and nicer themes are definitely something we want. [10:12]
carallunaBeestje: Yes, that is probably true to a certain degree [10:12]
BeestjeWhile we already have some good themes, I think tikiwiki is like a ferrari that's disguised as a lada ;) [10:13]
carallunaplanetfall is nice ;-)
yeah, very true :-P
[10:13]
chibaguyAnother thing is to make it easier to find and install new themes. Themes.tw.o and mods.tw.o aren't noticed by people, often. [10:15]
carallunayou have some very nice themes on that site chibaguy ;-) [10:15]

But I want to convert them to use the layout.css method, too.

chibaguyHeh, yeah, I really like that one, but right now it's missing major chunks of its graphics. [10:17]
carallunayeah, I see that
is it possible to "protect" files and/or directories on an installation using SVN?
and I love Ohia
[10:18]
chibaguyI don't know about protecting that way. [10:20]
carallunaabse would be very nice were it not for the background image and those darn mousesoverstuff
*mouseover
[10:23]
chibaguyHeh, that's what the theme option feature could take care of. [10:24]
carallunayeah :-) [10:24]
chibaguyyou can make a small css file and put it in styles/abse/options/myabse.css or whatever
and override the things you want to change.
[10:24]
carallunaIf I just knew about css ;-) [10:24]
chibaguysimple things are easy, like changing the page background image. [10:25]

[10:39]

[10:40]
chibaguyI started that theme conversion a couple of years ago... and never got around to finishing it. [10:41]
carallunahehe [10:41]
chibaguyBut in a way it's good that it got delayed, because the underlying functions, etc. are much nicer now. [10:41]

chibaguySo I'm hoping after this first one, the others will be fairly quick.
umm, there are tutorial sites around, at least for HTML layouts.
[10:42]
carallunais that "transferable" to Tiki? [10:44]
chibaguyYes, once you get an idea of the CSS divs that are used in the page, that you need to specify the styling for. [10:44]
carallunaIf I create a new theme and then do an SVN up, will that affect the files I added to my own installation? [10:45]
chibaguyNo, they'll be safe if they're new additions and not modifications of existing default files. [10:45]
carallunaah ... but if I modify existing ones and don't change name they will be replaced? [10:46]
chibaguyhmm, I don't actually run my svn installation much, but I think so.

how can i make the left column 100% tall (for example, when the center column is much longer than the side column?)
[12:18]
chibaguyDo you mean to have a graphic background or borders or something, when the left column content is shorter than the center column? [12:19]
ricks99i just want the fill color in the entire column
times like this, i miss tables
for example, http://themes.tikiwiki.org/tiki-index.php and switch to feb12
[12:20]
chibaguyright, because there's no unhacky way to do that with divs. [12:20]
ricks99i want to have the blue fill the *entire* left column (down to the footer) [12:21]
chibaguyIt may be possible to use a background image in a div that contains the left column div. luci did this for tikinewt, for a 1px border, but it wasn't 100% effective...
...as it could be seen above and below the middle section, or something like that.
[12:23]
ricks99:( [12:23]

In TheNews also, it'd be best to have the vertical border lines go all the way down, but no easy way to do it with divs.

ChadDa3monSpoony, what version are you using? [14:50]
spoony783.0b4
although im running my theme from branch
[14:50]
ChadDa3monYea, it's taken me a bit to get used to groups permissions + category permissions
you have to look at the permissions for the category you assigned
[14:52]
spoony78ahh i think Ive spotted it now that youve said that [14:53]
ChadDa3mon...maybe :)
looking at my setup now
[14:53]
sacraI think there's a clear error in the logic in lib/userslib.php, function validate_user
since a long time
[14:54]
spoony78well in the categories admin only "views categories" is assigned to anonymous..
but not "view categorised"..
problem is you can only assign view categories, or admin categories from that page.
only two permissions are available to assign
[14:54]
ChadDa3monone sec
there should be 5 options under Category permissions
I've got tiki_p_view_categorized assigned to my default group
[14:55]
spoony78only showing two options in tiki-categpermissions.php?categId=1 [14:56]
ChadDa3monYou go to tiki-admin_categories.php first and click on the "key" icon right? [14:56]
spoony78are you running b4? [14:56]
ChadDa3monyea [14:56]
spoony78yeah thats where i goto
hmm.
[14:57]
ChadDa3monthen yea, at the bottom under "Assign Permissions" you should have a dropdown with 5 options
I htink the 2.X code only had 2 options
[14:58]
spoony78mine only has 2 options.. [14:58]
ChadDa3monI got nothing then
are you logged in as admin?
[14:58]
spoony78this is a b3 install.. upgraded to b4.
im logged in as a user in the admin group..
might try logging in as admin itself
same.
hmm. ill try changing themes.
same.
[14:58]
ChadDa3monYea, I got nothing
really sounds like you're on 2.X
[15:00]
spoony78yeah its definitely 3.0b4,
ive got a 2.x install in another directory.. very much separated.
[15:02]
sacrain 2.x there are 4 options in that drop-down list [15:03]
ChadDa3monsorry, wish I could help more [15:03]
spoony78hmm. [15:03]
ChadDa3monI've got 5 [15:03]

spoony78thanks for trying :) [15:03]

spoony78yeah ive only got the view and admin categories. [15:04]
ChadDa3mondid you change permissions to the admin group or anything? [15:04]
spoony78dont think so. The my user in the admin group can see all the categories and things in it as youd expect. [15:05]
Caarriespoony78: did you clear your cache? [15:05]
spoony78I have cleared it a few times for other reasons tonight.. but havent cleared it since turning on categories. will try that quickly. [15:08]
caralluna|afkI just found an old installation of TW I had forgotten all about ... it's version 1.10b1 ... would I be able to upgrade that directlyto 3.0 or should I go through "sub-upgrades"? [15:08]
spoony78clearing the cache fixed it :) [15:09]
ChadDa3monoh nice [15:09]
spoony78thanks :) [15:09]
Caarrieyw [15:09]
spoony78So basically I should clear the cache after changing any options on any admin page everytime really :) (just kidding). [15:09]
ChadDa3monmaybe I should try that for my staging/approving problems [15:10]
spoony78the first thing tikibot should say when you type !help is "Did you clear your cache?" :) [15:12]
Caarriehehe [15:12]
spoony78caralluna: personally I would go through the upgrade paths.. through 2.x etc then 3.x

I'm starting to think it won't work for what I want
[15:28]
spoony78havent used it.. is it not working as youd expect? [15:31]
ChadDa3monno
the permission system for who can approve what seems based on categories
when you 'approve' a page, it gets assigned to the "approved" category
[15:31]
spoony78ah. [15:32]
ChadDa3monfrom what I can tell....whoever can edit the approved category can approve changes
so once a page is approved, only a select few can update it
which makes no sense, so I must be missing something
[15:32]
spoony78it may be more meant for approving pages that will be a "public front".. and they dont want the people to edit them directly etc.. but submit pages for approval to be put up.
problem is unless it leafs a copy elsewhere then it makes it hard to submit an updated copy for approval in that scenario too.
[15:34]
ChadDa3monyea
your 'staging' users can't update approved pages
[15:35]
spoony78leafs=leaves (must be tired)
out of curiosity.. why have staging/approval though if the user can edit the page afterwards anyway?
[15:35]
carallunaChadDa3mon: Just a thought off the top of my head ... could a tracker help here? [15:36]
ChadDa3monI want my users to be able to edit pages
just want a select group of people to approve them before they go live
[15:37]
spoony78we have systems at work that have mandatory approval on document areas.. and everytime you edit it those edits/versions need to be reapproved. [15:37]
ChadDa3monnever used trackers...but this is one of the core things I'd like in my wiki [15:37]
spoony78chad: but do you want to allow the people that created them to later on edit them as well? [15:38]
ChadDa3monyes
and those subsequent edits should get approved
[15:38]
spoony78so whats to stop them from just going in and editing directly afterwards and messing things up?
ahh
[15:38]
ChadDa3monI'd like it so any time a page is edited by anyone, it has to get approved [15:38]

ChadDa3monyea, I like Tikwiki a lot, but the way they do categories isn't quite what I want, and the stage/approve process makes no sense to me
