nkoth3: Want to try Tiki 3?
vkumar: hi nelson
ricks99: verified.... if you add the admin email in the General install page (but leave the sender email blank) you get a not logged in error
nkoth3: try that combination
vkumar: yes , i have almost completed my site in v2.3
nkoth3: ricks99, ok
vkumar: will it be wise to upgrade ?
nkoth3: vkumar, well, if you make a copy of your site first, you can try it on the duplicate
vkumar: ok, how do we upgrade ?
nkoth3: we are testing the pre-release package right now.
vkumar: ok
great
nkoth3: Want to help?
vkumar: sure.. how can i ?
nkoth3: do you have a place you can install a new TIki?
or do you have a copy of your 2.3 tiki that you can test on?
vkumar: yes .. i have apache running on my system
yes i do
nkoth3: do you prefer a zip, bz2, or gz?
vkumar: aything.. i think i got gz last time
nkoth3: ok, try http://vps7.etazo.net/tikiwiki-3.0.pre.tar.gz
vkumar: downloading it right now..
50% complete.. :)
is the installation same as previous one
nkoth3: ricks99: so do you see the forgot password form at all, or do you see "not logged in" right away, when you click
vkumar: ?
nkoth3: vkumar: tiki-install.php
ricks99: yes. as anon i see the link
vkumar: ok
ricks99: i can click it
i get the forgot pw page
for user, i type: admin
nkoth3: if you configure a sender email, does the problem go away?
ricks99: then i get the "you are not logged in"
y
nkoth3: ok, then it is just an error messaging problem or something along those lines
vkumar: extracting .. right now..
ricks99: ah.. wrong error message
k. then... that sorta confused me :)
vkumar: so.. i need to create a new database as usual ??
nkoth3: yes
vkumar: ok
copiend to my htdocs
nkoth3: ricks99: could you file a bug anyway?
ricks99: will do
vkumar: install.php brought up a blank page :(
nkoth3: tiki-install.php?
vkumar: yes...
nkoth3: is this server online?
vkumar: index.php says webpage cannot display
yes it is
nkoth3: can I try?
vkumar: how is that possible.. tiki is just on my intranet ?
nkoth3: oh, sorry. I meant to ask if you had it on the internet
when I asked if it was online
Webpage cannot display... hmm
vkumar: no it is not.. since we are developing an internal knowledgebase
nkoth3: are the file permissions readable by apache where you put the files?
vkumar: I think my office security would not allow that :(
nkoth3: but your existing 2.4 works?
did you extract it to a similar location, or how?
vkumar: i extracted it my documents.. then i copied the folder to htdocs folder... then i typed loclahost/tikiwikiversion/tiki-install.php
thats what i normally do
nkoth3: it should work I suppose
vkumar: may be, i will try to download the file from some other location.. can you tell me an alternate location ?
nkoth3: can you try going to localhost/tikiwikiversion/README
vkumar: ok
Step two: run setup.sh to set permissions ( hope this is not needed for windows XP .. right ??)
ricks99: @vkumar: double (and triple) check that all the files/folders copied.
lots of times, i find that not everyhing gets copied :(
vkumar: ok sure.. may be I will also try to download it again from tikiwiki.org ??
nkoth3: i havent uploaded it there yet
vkumar: :)
ok.. then which files should i look for .. tiki-index.php is there
tiki-install.php also there
ricks99: confirm all the the /install and lib/install stuff too
vkumar: ok
nkoth3: you mean /installer ?
and /installer/installerlib.php ?
or I mean installer/installlib.php
ricks99: all (i think)
there's a lot of dependencies
vkumar: oh installlib.php.. that one is not there in the prevoius version
in the installer folder
there is no lib/install
nkoth3: no there isn't
vkumar: ok i think ricks asked me to check that
nkoth3: well, maybe there is another reason why it's not working for you if you are sure all your files are copied over
is the previous version on the same machine?
vkumar: yes it is
but that uses a different database right ??
i remember having installed multiple wikis on the same server
different databases
nkoth3: do you get any error messages at all say at tiki-index.php?
vkumar: page cannot be displayed
nkoth3: it sounds like maybe the folder is not accessible by apache or php or something
vkumar: ok.. may be i will check that... and try it again... will get back after some time
nkoth3: sure
Normally "Page cannot be displayed" has a smaller message after that giving more details...
vkumar: The website cannot display the page
Most likely causes:
The website is under maintenance
The website has a programming error
HTTP 500 internal server error
nkoth3: that could be a whole range of things related to apache or php
what versions of apache/php do you have?
vkumar: apache 2.2 mysql 5.1
php 5
nkoth3: ok. hopefully it's just a configuration issue then

xavi_uni: indeed

chibaguy: (my impression of all tikifests, btw. ;-) )
well, I installed the personal blog and profile (not at site install, but after, from link on homepage), but found my site title didn't change, which was kind of strange.
I input the info on the profiles admin page, for this profile during its install setup.
Don't know if this is a common or known problem, or if something was strange in my installation.
(Installation was via ftp to a hosted server, so a pretty normal process.)
xavi_uni: ok, no idea myself
chibaguy: Also the top menu (strasa theme for this profile) runs off the right side of the page on a 1024px wide display, so probably the menu should have fewer items.
(suggested for 3.1)
(or modify at profiles.tw.o)
xavi_uni: maybe profiles --installed-- (oups, "applied", according to marclaporte's new terminology) in a post-install step, can not handle this site title and substitle substitution. => "no idea myself"
***: eromneg has joined #tikiwiki
xavi_uni: btw, chibaguy, if not in a hurry, can y ou try the wikibased_menu I added on profiles.tw.o?
chibaguy: ok
xavi_uni: initially, for Collaborative_Community, but designed general and aside so taht it can be installed on any profile, in theory
you will find it under the name "Collaborative_Community_Wiki_Menu" (or something similar)
chibaguy: so I should, uh, apply Collaborative_Community, to try the menu?
oh, typing at same time.
-: xavi_uni still thinks that many many users don't kow about the module "menupage", and that it will help their initial steps using/administering a tiki site, before tehy learn how to do nice css/superfish/or whatever menus
chibaguy: cool
it's great, xavi. :-)

I've just finished a short screencast of an installation of bare-bones + collab.community using tiki3pre ;-)
I always thought that we needed something more graphical to show in less than 20 min. how to install with this new installer, installing a profile (or several, etc.)
and I just made a quick & dirty 20 min (or so) screencast.
I wish somebody had some background music (suitable by copyright) to be added to this type of screencasts...
chibaguy: do you know if we have any musician (or amateur musician) which produced (or can produce) some nice and relaxing ambient music?
or where to get some copyright-free (or copylefted) music in order to add a sound track to the screencasts?
oh well, I leave the question there. If anybody knows an answerr, please, drop a message on the tikiwikiusers-list for instance (no need to talk about that only on the tikiwiki-devel list)
nkoth3: the install and basic admin with the tar.bz2 (clean new install) went fine for me.
nkoth3: how many more tests need to be done before release?
chibaguy: I don't recall anyone, but this would be a good way for a user to contribute, if he/she can and wants to.
xavi_uni: chibaguy: yes, that would be.
oh well, the screencast only took 12 minutes! great , even shorter
-: xavi_uni tends to take longer than needed in screencasts, but this time it's shorter than previous screencasts
xavi_uni: and only 52 Mb (.ogv). Not that bad
I'll upload it somwhere
hopefully, when converted to flv, it'll be even smaller (in size) and (hopefully also) still big enough to read the text
we'll see in short
chibaguy: ok, sounds good.
***: eromneg has quit IRC (Read error: 110 (Connection timed out))
xavi_uni: fyi: http://blip.tv/file/2130953
in 15 min. it's expectd to be fully converted to flv, but nowadays, it can be seen as .ogv
my idea is to add this "quick & dirty" screecast (until somebody adds something better) to the Installation page on doc.tw.o (referenced from the tiki README file, afair)
chibaguy: xavi_uni: neither opera nor firefox can find a plugin to view the screencast with. :-/
(on windows xp)
I can enter the url in vlc media player, but that's not so convenient. ;-)
xavi_uni: ah, ok :-) (issues in windoze with the free video format .ogv, I guess)
chibaguy: yep, I'm afraid so.
xavi_uni: yes, .ogv is still in its early stages in Windoze
no problem, in short it will be available in flv in blip tv (they do handle it's automatic conversion to flv)
it just takes a while....
9 min. left
chibaguy: ok. the screencast is good, though.
xavi_uni: thanks
are you seing it through vlc?
chibaguy: yes
xavi_uni: ok
btw, I ended adding also that profile with the wikibased menu :-)
in the screencast I mean
chibaguy: ok, that's good, I think.
xavi_uni: btw, off previous topic: I've been thinking in the last weeks that we (we=tw community, not necessarily you) should be able to provide some new theme with images on the header...
e.g: http://assembleapdipas.universidadpublica.net/
or http://lescorts.cc/
those last two are drupals
***: gezza has joined #tikiwiki
xavi_uni: but also this type of design is on common (hand made) web sites. I.e. our university: http://www.ub.edu
I imagine getting a random image (for instance) from a file gallery, and showing it somewhere in the header area
in a similar way as the random image module does
chibaguy: yes, would be as easy as modifying an item in css, but there is an idea (from marc) to have a custom-css input box in Look and Feel admin, where this could be done.
xavi_uni: we would need an example documented (using look and feel site header right now, or the next field whenever it goes into tiki 4) in order to showcase how to do that in tiki sites...
chibaguy: the http://assembleapdipas.universidadpublica.net/ look would be easy with a div#header-top background image.
but also I think maybe some other ways using modules and jquery would be good.
xavi_uni: that might open the door for newbies (like me) to add some pictures to their headers easily, handled from file galleries, and optionally, make them fixed, or randomly taken from a file gallery where all images meet a certain size (width & height to fit in the box)
modules and jquery: yes, that would be step 2, for sure (slideshow from jquery, etc.)
chibaguy: Seems to me that Tiki 3 was for introducing a lot of new things, and between now and tiki 4 (and in tiki 4) will be more ways to use what we now have.
xavi_uni: if you know how to handle that, and can produce an easy wiki page explaining how to do that in tiki 3 with a simple example, that would be awesome!
tiki3 -> tiki4: I agree
chibaguy: right. this would be good to talk to jonnyb and luci about too.

Skyriderz: polom?
chibaguy: Hi Skyriderz. There's two ways to do menus. One is at tiki-admin_menus.php. The other is with a menupage module.
If you have Tiki 3, try appying the Collaborative_Community_Wiki_Menu profile.
Skyriderz: I'm trying to add a menu actually
I've added the name, the URL and the permissions (groups)
Yet. its not showing at all..
chibaguy: Is it in a module? (side column)
Skyriderz: I've read the manual about the menu's even. says I don't need to add the last 2 sections if I don't know the exact name.
Top menu part.
tiki-admin_menus.php
chibaguy: ok. but then it needs to be put in a module to display, or else designated for the page-top menu.
Skyriderz: Well, it worked.
At least...
the "pre-made" worked that was already made.
With home page, tiki, my page, etc.
But I can't get my own menu to work

*Modules.
chibaguy: right, that's the one for the pre-made menu.
Skyriderz: So, where exactly is my menu that I made?
chibaguy: well, menus aren't the same as modules. modules are containers. you can make a new module to put your menu in, down at the bottom of the admin modules page.

Skyriderz: That's true, but there are always ways to automatic prevent it right? with an error.
:p
luciash: Skyriderz: also i believe at upgrade you could get into trouble overriding your menu if the ID is the same but i'm not sure here how that works
nkoth3, sylvieg: any progress ? i have to leave in 1 minute
Skyriderz: I can always alter that.. I've been spending hours to set up all users, options and usergroups.
I'd rather upgrade rather than a new installation

sylvieg: I rm unstable.version
Skyriderz: luminoso:

chibaguy: Skyriderz: you can probably change menu id numbers by editing the database, but seems like the risk of problems is greater than anything you'd gain.
nkoth3: sylvie: can you try cp stable.version unstable.version
Skyriderz: Indeed, I'd prefer spending a few minutes changing the other ID's instead.
thing is, it works now, thanks.

-: ricks99 's release check now says: Current version is up to date : 2.1 A new unstable major release branch is available.
ricks99: gr8 job!

oh
let me check
nkoth3: ricks99: but that is not really correct...
ricks99: define "unstable"
:
Skyriderz: I'm getting

s/by/bye/
ricks99: but also, my tiki is 2.1. shouldnt it say 2.4 is current?
nkoth3: ricks99, can you check your 2.1 lib/setup/twversion.class.php

nkoth3: $this->branch = ...
and see whether it is "stable" or "unstable"
ricks99: $this->branch = 'unstable';
hm... why?
nkoth3: ok, so when 2.1 was packaged, the pacakger forgot to change this
ricks99: ohhh... i bet i created this site directly from 2.1 svn
would that account for it?
nkoth3: good question
ricks99: probably operator error on my part.
nkoth3: I can check the release tag in svn

chibaguy: what is the process for proposing things for 3.1, again?
nyloth: ricks99: I think pretty soon in fact
chibaguy: Is this documented at dev.tw.o?
ricks99: "pretty soon"... that's what i was thinking
nyloth: chibaguy: you have to commit on the "proposed" branch
chibaguy: ah, ok.
nyloth: http://dev.tikiwiki.org/Quality+Team
chibaguy: so we use our judgement whether to commit to trunk or to proposed branch?
nyloth: chibaguy: and it was even you that choosed the "proposed" word ;)
chibaguy: yes, the name I know, the process I'm not quite sure. ;-)
nkoth3: I should link to this link in my email

chibaguy: it's explained in the QT page
nkoth3: yes sure
nkoth3: precise that no more commits are allowed now on branches/3.0, except translations in language.php files (and security fixes from the Security Squad)
there is already a commit on branches/proposed by jonny which will be discussed by me and sylvie
and sept_7 is also waiting to put things there...
... so probably there will be a lot of propositions in the coming weeks. (Hope not too much ;p )
