could anybody help me with BLANK PAGE problem in tikiwiki 3.0 installation?

do you have enough memory?

are you sure you have no corrupted files or missing files

Caarrie: Beestje: did you check your setup? last i heard of this issue it was not an issue with tw but with the host setup
Beestje: are these relative url's generated in the wiki page code themselves or are they defined somewhere?
i just did a standard wamp install and put tikiwiki in the root www dir (c:wampwww)
Caarrie: hence this is only a windoze issue and not an issue with tw

mmmmm in a subdir, all links are fine
when tiki's in the root www dir, they're messed up

so according to all of you it's a windoze thing?
ricks99: @Beestje: look at your DOCUMENTROOT definition in httpd.conf

-: ricks99 loves windows :) no issues for me :)
chibaguy: are these problems due to using windows IIS web server? I use wamp with not much trouble.
luciash: ricks99 is a masochist
;)
Beestje: well, these problems are under wamp when tiki is set up under the root directory
and i hate windows as well, but currently my linux server's power supply is broken, my new imac hasn't arrived yet so I have to endure the use of my windoze box
-: ricks99 thinks it is something with your wamp setup
ricks99: 'case it works perfectly for me :)
chibaguy: my local svn is in htdocs/TikiWiki/Trunk/ etc., + several other tikis under htdocs/
Beestje: but your tiki isn't in the c:/wamp/www dir :)
chibaguy: no problem with paths and urls anyway.
ricks99: why not just put it in a subdirectory, then create an alias directly to it?
Beestje: good point, and will do... but I'll have to investigate a bit further, because a lot of potential users will want to set it up for an intranet in the root dir of their windows webby server
chibaguy: well, I just use it for local testing, so don't even have a www dir.
Beestje: and i see at least 5 bugs in the system concerning this problem
chibaguy: go Beestje go! ;-)
ricks99: @Beestje: y, but when they unarchive the ZIP, it creates a subdirectory automatically
Beestje: yep, and then i move it and it should still work, like magic fortune cookies :D
ricks99: why move it at all?
Beestje: because i like to move things :)
ricks99: lol
Beestje: you should see my desk... my job as a systems administrator consists of moving things around my desk all day long :P
so I do the same on my servers so I appear to be very busy ;)

that triggers a little switch in my brain that it isn't just a windows bug (unfortunately)
Caarrie: Beestje: people have reported this before in this channel way before 3.0 even went into beta

Beestje: i know, and it's weird... most of them seem to be having an issue when clicking on the logout button and getting the weird slash at the end.
luciash: i remember they reported it even in 1.9.x iirc
chibaguy: i'm not so sure, Caarrie; not many tiki devs work on windows or use ms browsers even.

Caarrie: chibaguy: i would not think this would be a broswer issue though
***: Wilkins has quit IRC (Remote closed the connection)
chibaguy: no, i don't think so either. i'm just saying tiki problems with windows users have tended to not get much attention from devs.
-: Caarrie nods

Anyone around to just chat with about a new wiki I am planing on building. I could use some back and forth to work out some details for how to do it.

ricks99: i'll try to help
mib_l8r8atmw: cool, I am trying to set up a website for my universities graduate department
The topic is non-linear controls, and we are doing some really cool things, but the current website is pretty bland.
I have been tasked with making a new cool, attractive website in order to draw attention (and more importantly funding) for future research
ricks99: so far, so good :)
mib_l8r8atmw: I thought that using a wiki would be helpful because of the collaboration and ease of updating functionality. I am only going to be here for another year and I after that someone has to update the website and odds are they will have limited website skills
so the wiki has some great advantages, I am just not sure about implementing a eye catching homepage with the wiki. have you seen any eye catching start pages done using the wiki functions
ricks99: have you seen the "Featured Tiki" sites on: http://info.tikiwiki.org/gallery1

ricks99: some more good examples at http://twbasics.keycontent.org/Demo+Movies (look at the Faces of Tiki movie)

ricks99: might also way to look at http://themes.tikiwiki.org. lots of good info about creating/customing Tiki themes (skins)
mib_l8r8atmw: Yeah, I was sure I would have to end up creating a theme for the website. Just to get the look and feel right. Do you know if tikiwiki has any support for java applets? we are thinking of having some simulations running that the visitors can adjust parameters and run
things like an inverted pendulum systems, which look cool

Create any of those folders if they are missing in your installation, for whatever reason.
...
this step is previous to tiki-install.php
magowiz: ok I'll check permissions of that folders
those folders
xavi: magowiz: note that some of the folders are to be set at 775, according to documentation
and please, magowiz: if you see anything outdated in the documentation, please update it :-)
magowiz: ok... the permission indications are recoursive? I mean : 755 in a dir means that everything on it should have same permission recoursively?
mib_6odrr7: http://doc.tikiwiki.org/Login+Authentication+Methods page is for configuring existing methods.. any links for developing new ones?
ricks99: sorry, thought you said that you already had a login/authentication method in place....
some work on new CAS methods on dev.tikiwiki.org, i think....
http://dev.tikiwiki.org/External+Authentication for bugs/rfes/etc
xavi: magowiz, yes for directories. Files are usually fine with 644 in most cases
but specially, note the ones with 775, I would say
magowiz: xavi, I set permissions accordingly using the table you suggested but I still get 403 on tiki-install.php
xavi: ok, magowiz, step by step.
could you check the permissions of the parent folder of your tiki installation
?
magowiz: 750 ...
I changed it to 775 but still the same issue
xavi: could you check the owner and permissions of the tiki-install.php ?
-: ricks99 still thinks it is something on the host... i've seen this issue before where the host forbibs specific php scripts from running.
xavi: ricks, but magowiz says he is upgrading, so I presume everything worked in the tiki 2.x site, isn't it magowiz?
magowiz: yes tw 2.2 worked great
ricks99: check... can u run the 2.2. tiki-install.php?
magowiz: tiki-install.php 755 owner user1247 (which is my login)
sylvieg: On some hosting I noticed you need rw-r--r-- to have a php executed and not rw-rw-r--
xavi: yes, that might be, good catch, sylvieg
however, I'm also thinking about the installer folder, and contents, which are new in tiki 3.x compared to 2.x
magowiz: 644 same issue
and also 775
xavi: magowiz, and can you report the permissions and owner (user and group) of the folder ./installer/ and its contetns
?
magowiz: 775 folder installer
and also its content is set to 775
no luck also setting tiki-install.php to 777
xavi: magowiz: I would say then, proceed with the manual installation process
magowiz: where is the manual installation process doc ?
xavi: magowiz, look for http://doc.tikiwiki.org/Documentation
have a look at it (it won't hurt you invest a couple of minutes reading the table of contents)
you'll see that there is a generic page for everything related to installation : http://doc.tikiwiki.org/Installation
and that page has many links to many other related pages , like http://doc.tikiwiki.org/Manual+Installation
pretty intuitive at the end (page names, I guess).
or at least, thaat's what we all try to do...
and if for you, some page is easier to remember with another name, you can create that page and add a redirect to the current page with the real documentation , or use the semantic thingy (however, haven't seen anywhere an easy doc. on how to use page aliases...)
hth
last suggestion, magowiz, is that you check that your server is running php 5.x. since tiki 3.0 requires it.
hth (bis)
magowiz: I'm sure that my host runs php 5 and mysql 5
xavi: magowiz: ok. No more clues myself. Good luck with the manual installation then
magowiz: I think I finished
with the manual installation
xavi: sylvieg , ricks99 or luciash: do you now how to add site header html content in a profile?
magowiz: but I think that my website is now a mess
xavi: so that when you install profile, that site header box is filled with that html?
magowiz: a mess?
magowiz: the right word should be .... empty
no wiki pages
no file galleries
does the manual installation reset all the db to his original status ?
xavi: magowiz: could you please login and choose one of the updated theme styles?
that is explained in the update2to3 page, at least (you said that you had read that)
magowiz: another hint : my usual username doesn't exist anymore
xavi: did you install or upgrade?
magowiz: what I wanted is an upgrade
xavi: if you upgraded, then your database is there updated
magowiz: but I looked into my mysql
using phpmyadmin, the only user in users_users is admin
xavi: you should upgrade the database, not just install a new one
so no problem, just restore you backup from your past 2.x site, and repeat the database upgrade process
magowiz: ok I'll retry
xavi: and update the manual+installation process, if this option is not clearly stated there, please

xavi: magowiz: you did a clean install
yyou want to do an (manual) upgrade
magowiz: I followed the instruction in manual installation page
xavi: http://doc.tikiwiki.org/Manual+upgrade
magowiz: ah....
xavi: that one is the one you should follow, but it's a blank page (yet), waiting for you ;-)
***: Caarrie|away is now known as Caarrie
xavi: to merge content from http://doc.tikiwiki.org/Upgrade
and http://doc.tikiwiki.org/Manual+Installation
and http://doc.tikiwiki.org/Install+by+ftp
;-)
but the key point for you, is...
-: xavi will give you the hint
xavi: are you on a linux box, mac or window$?
magowiz: linux box
xavi: great, then, easy :-)
I did write the instructions to do the manual upgrade of database not so painful in tiki 3
http://doc.tikiwiki.org/Upgrade : Alternative: Upgrading your database through shell
you can folloow those steps in local in you linux box
some devs use "sh doc/devtools/sqlupgrade.sh", but I haven't tried myself (I just added that line some hours ago today)
magowiz: so you mean : I should upgrade the database on my local machine and then import it in
xavi: What I know it works, is the rest of the section: I wrote it after I succeeded doing that on a gnu/linux server, so it should work if yuo do that in your local
magowiz: my website ?
xavi: yes, you could (1) upgrade in local, and import the resulting db in your website (phpmyadmin)
magowiz: ok .... I'll try it
xavi: or (2) merge all sql schemas in local, and apply them to your 2.x db in your website (phpmyadmin)
and please, when you succeed, you would do a big favour to the Tikiwiki community if you coud write that missing page: http://doc.tikiwiki.org/Manual+upgrade
magowiz: let me read better what should I do...
***: Amorphous has quit IRC (Read error: 110 (Connection timed out))
magowiz: xavi, and if I import the file named tiki_2.0to3.0.sql to my database ?
xavi: magowiz: nope, that wouldn't be enough, believe me. Just check if you wish, the content of that file
is not everything... (that's we need a doc. page explaining that clearly)
s/is not/it's not
s/that's we need/that's why we need
magowiz: to be honest I really didn't understand how to "merge all sql schemas in local, and apply them to your 2.x db in your website" ...
-: xavi has his head elsewhere at home right now
xavi: easy way: open you favourite text editor (gedit, kate, mousepad...), and create a single sql file with the content (in order) of all the sql files described in that documentation page for upgrade
which is equal to the steps 5 and 6 that I wrote ((5) apply tiki2to3.sql, and (6) create the all.sql)
***: Amorphous has joined #tikiwiki
magowiz: ah sorry I didn't read well the guide, now I understand, I should simply import 2to3.sql and then the big mergedschema sql , right ?
xavi: yes, you got it! :-)
and that should be explained also easily for windoze users....
like using a text editor and copy pasting the content in order, etc.
and as a text editor, I would suggest them to use kate from kde4windows! :-)
-: Caarrie likes kwrite better
xavi tried kde4windows today at work, and he is amazed how close the kde team is getting to reproduce the kde4 apps under a m$ windows o.s.
magowiz: xavi, to be honest the better way in linux is to use cat
xavi: Caarrie: is kwrite available under m$ windows?
Caarrie: no idea i think so as i have it on my macbook ;)
xavi: magowiz: I agree, that's why I wrote that documentation (my first time using cat, btw :-)
Caarrie: kde4mac
xavi: kde4mac! :-) interesting :-)
i'm far from the mac world, but that's good to know
can you use k3b or kdenlive under mac????
Caarrie: no idea linux is my main os ;)
xavi: :-)
Caarrie: well kde4 ;)
magowiz: xavi there is an error in sql syntax in all.sql
xavi: error?
magowiz: yes
phpmyadmin say it
xavi: could you be more explicit, please?
mib_l8r8atmw: Hey all. My host can do MySQL 4.0 and 5.0, is there any benifet to one over the other for tikiwiki?
xavi: mib_l8r8atmw: no doubt. go for mysql 5.0
using mysql 4.0 you won't be able to work well with tiki 2.0+
you need mysql 4.1+ for tiki 2.x and tiki 3.x , afaik
magowiz: xavi, http://dpaste.com/47945/
mib_l8r8atmw: Ah, okay. I figured that 5.0 was the way to go, just wanted to check
magowiz: I have mysql 5
xavi: mib_l8r8atmw: please, spend a while in http://doc.tikiwiki.org/Ddocumentation
sorry, typo, I meant http://doc.tikiwiki.org/Documentation
magowiz: I pasted the error in that page
xavi: mib_l8r8atmw: tiki3 page, and requirements and setup, etc
mib_l8r8atmw: ok, thanks for the quick answer
xavi: magowiz: I'm afraid, as far as I remember, that you'll have to keep going from there onwards....
or better, use the local upgrade of your database with the -f param ;-)
that will solve the breaks at any warning or so
magowiz: let me try another thing
xavi: that phpmyadmin produces (or use to produce to me when I used that program)
mysql -uuser -p -f databasetoupgrade < all.sql
magowiz: In my local.php I was having 1.9 as version, also if upgraded to 2.2 , so I'll try to run 1.9to2.0 before
xavi: note the "-f" param
kitchen time for me, sorry

xavi: magowiz: my last guess. check the your local.php file says that your database is 3.0
rodrigo_sampaio: hi :-)
rodrigo_sampaio: we have a wiki page that list all the tikiwiki wiki syntax?
hey xavi
-: rodrigo_sampaio working on the GSOC 2009 project :)
magowiz: xavi : $dbversion_tiki = '3.0';
xavi: magowiz: and remember to set any theme styles adataped to tiki 3 in your site (it's getting closer! :-)
rodrigo_sampaio: go mw2tw importer, go! :-)
magowiz: what is the default tikiwiki 3.0 theme ? the one that works without problems ?
xavi: magowiz: read documentation
how many times did I say that today? (for instance, upgrade"2to3")
"upgrade2to3", I meant
rodrigo_sampaio: which projects got funded?
or how does it work?
I thought Google selects only some projects to be funded... but I missed themessage (if any) saying which projects became funded by GSOC 2009
rodrigo_sampaio: maybe http://doc.tikiwiki.org/wiki+syntax ?
(just a guess)
rodrigo_sampaio: xavi: there was no message in tikiwiki-devel saying which projects where selected
magowiz: xavi, ok I set the theme to coalesce that was bundled with 3.0, the only problem seems that warning about database version....
rodrigo_sampaio: xavi: i have put the list here http://dev.tikiwiki.org/tiki-index.php?page=Google+Summer+of+Code+2009+GSOC
xavi: rodrigo_sampaio: yes, I know. I'm watching (monitoring) that page since a few days ago ;-)
magowiz: that's all I know. To know more, about how can you get rid of that message, I would say...
rodrigo_sampaio: xavi: actually, is not google who select the projects, is the software community
xavi: (1) do you upgrade in local (full upgrade in your linux box)
(2) dump the resulting database from yuor local full upgrade and compare that with the database in your host
magowiz: hth
ah, and (3) update your documentation page (manual+upgrade) with your findings :-)
rodrigo_sampaio: einc? but isn't there any money from Google anywhere?
how Google selects which projects to fund???
rodrigo_sampaio: xavi: google just give the money
xavi: that's the point: which money did they give this year?
rodrigo_sampaio: xavi: you mean how much?
xavi: I missed that message, if that was announced somewhere... (not in TAG, afaik)
rodrigo_sampaio: yes, how much, and in concept of what?
or who decides where is the money sent to? (to which projects I mean...)
I missed all that information...
rodrigo_sampaio: xavi: now I think I understand what are you asking

luciash: xavi: you can use smarty or wiki syntax rather

marclaporte: but i don't if this is what you have in mind
marclaporte: In which case, report a bug/wish on http://profiles.tikiwiki.org/Profiles+Todos
sui: i checked users_permissions in mysql directly. for tiki_p_view_image_gallery the level is basic. does that mean that anonymous users can see image galleries?

liquidape: I figured out the clicking images to select them within the wysiwyg...it's not very intuitive though. You click the image icon in the fck editor, click browse to go the the fgals. Browse to the the fgal that your image is in. Now the key step: Click "Browse Images" and then select the image you want by clicking on it.
There is no way to really select the image in the fgal directly...unless there is a way to default showing images instead of icons
sylvieg: .. ask to the devel list - you will have an answer...
