Hi
Yesterday there was a discussion about download size of tiki livecd. I used server2go (full wamp) for testing installations which runs on windows and apple
its size is appr. 14 MB with php5,MySQL and Apache
and ist fully selfconfiguring. Could be an additional option to avoid the 600mb unix download. Just a thought. ***: doubleclick has joined #tikiwiki doubleclick: hi guys
gals.. if any :)
any tips on how i can "shrink" the tiki?
i removed languages i don't need..
and 2MB changes file :)
and it's now 59.7 MB ***: chibaguy has quit IRC (Read error: 110 (Connection timed out)) ricks99: maybe get rid of plugins u don't need? but that's not going to save a whole lot of space doubleclick: yea, it figures.. everything is so small :) ricks99: maybe get rid of the /db/* scripts that u don't need?
but again, not gonna save much doubleclick: btw, if i only use "tiki authentication method" can i remove ./lib/pear ricks99: dont know. doubleclick: i'm afraid i would break something
and i guess if a remove too much stuff things will definitley fall apart during upgrade to new version.. SEWilco2: doubleclick: Are you trying to save disk space or memory space? Or reduce disk accesses for performance? doubleclick: for now, i'm trying to save disk space
if possibile :) SEWilco2: Good. That's the main thing which can be accomplished. You won't use less memory anyway. doubleclick: but it seems to me i would have to consider a new hosting server... SEWilco2: If you're using UNIX/Linux, you can go through all parts of your site and then use 'ls' to find which files have been accessed. Delete the rest.
Yes, disk space is so cheap now that a few dozen MB should not be much of an issue. Caarrie: the host i use has "unlimited" hd space SEWilco2: Then why is there a need to reduce space? Unless you're running "unlimited" number of sites and aren't linking the files together. coaboa: does anyone know what to enter in local.php to listen to a different mysql port?
