As explained, when I try /tiki-admingroups.php, I get "you need tiki_p_admin". I've already got to the point where I can add remove users from groups; but still not admingroups. Thanks!! | [13:41] |
ricks99 | i made the 'circle' permission diagram. do u think it is wrong? how can i correct it?
(it made sense to me... :-) | [13:42] |
sylvieg | it is the label object that is confusing
because in fact there is 2 circles - one that is object (like lock...) and the other in local group object perm | [13:42] |
ricks99 | i was thinking that object=wiki page|file|etc. | [13:43] |
*** | uSlacker has joined #tikiwiki | [13:44] |
sylvieg | so what do you mean with object: check that the user is the rcreator and can edit?
in this case where do you set the group perms on the object | [13:44] |
Elvin | Errh... <chealer> <@sylvieg> THANKS for sharing!! | [13:45] |
ricks99 | the graphic was simply meant to show the relationshp between the 3 types of permissions | [13:45] |
sylvieg | I do not like the label 'object' | [13:46] |
ricks99 | from general to specific (group -> category -> object/item
item? maybe Tiki feature? | [13:46] |
sylvieg | I will split the object circle into 1 - local group object and object | [13:47] |
ricks99 | what is the difference? what is a "local group object"? | [13:47] |
sylvieg | what is object? | [13:47] |
ricks99 | For me, an "object" is a particular "thing" that tiki can create: such as a wiki page, a file gallery, and so on. | [13:48] |
sylvieg | because the perms at this level are also group perm | [13:48] |
ricks99 | you can then apply a object-specific perm
right, but a wiki-page-specific perm will override the group perm | [13:48] |
sylvieg | object-specific perm - are group perm + kunk like creator.. lock...
but wiki-page-specific perm is based on group no? | [13:49] |
ricks99 | i can apply a permission to a particular wiki page that will override the group perms | [13:49] |
sylvieg | so why the group appears only on the outside circle? | [13:49] |
ricks99 | what do you call this perm that is applied to the particualr wiki page?
why.... because group perms are the most general | [13:49] |
sylvieg | local group perm to the object? | [13:50] |
ricks99 | i still dont understand what a "local group" is
ricks99 thought the image made sense when he drew it .... :( | [13:50] |
sylvieg | it is confising for me - but I do not know .. perhaps I did not see tiki is the same way ... | [13:52] |
ricks99 | how would u visually show the relationship between the different perms
a "group" perm controls each wiki page (i.e., the object), but can be overridden on a page-by-page basis, right? | [13:52] |
sylvieg | I will change the label object to show that the object perms are based also on group
becasue for me the label 'object' represented the perms like 'a creator cans change his page, a locker can cahge his page...) a creator can modify his user item.. | [13:52] |
ricks99 | maybe i misuderstand how perms work... on my tiki sites, i can control specific perms for a particular page
if "Object" was "Wiki page" would it make sense to you? | [13:54] |
sylvieg | I do not think you misunderstand - but the label is so confusing for me
it will be worst because I will thought that 'wiki page' are perms like ' a creator can change his page' so where will I find the perm 'this group can see this page'? | [13:55] |
ricks99 | i think you're taking the diagram too literrally | [13:57] |
sylvieg | I do not like the label 'object' only
because I attach to object the junky perm like 'creator can modify his perm' | [13:58] |
ricks99 | what would you call the "things" that tiki creates (wiki pages, file galleries, image galleries, etc.) | [13:58] |
sylvieg | and I do not think about 'object' as the local object perm that are based on group
object but a circle is missing group(local) perhaps but it is not important if I am teh only one to have problem with the terminology | [13:58] |
ricks99 | maybe, but ur an xpert and if an xpert doesnt understand, what hope is there for the rest of us? :-)
so what do you generically call all the things that tiki can create? i call them "objects" but that may be wrong, apparently | [14:01] |
sylvieg | btw the object settings (like creator can change the page) is the concept that ruins the filtering of perms ;-) | [14:02] |
ricks99 | the image arose from the need to better explain perms. many users didn't understand that you can override group perms on a per-category and/or per-page basis | [14:02] |
sylvieg | "Object permissions: These permissions define the actions that user can take for an individual object. "
should also reference to group IMHO otherwise - I think only about the 'creator can modify his page" | [14:05] |
ricks99 | how would you refer to the perms that I can set on a particular wiki page? in the UI, i think we call the Object Perms? | [14:11] |
sylvieg | Group object perms
perhaps? | [14:11] |
ricks99 | The UI says "assign permissions to this Object"
thats why i made the center circle "object" | [14:11] |
sylvieg | so perhaps the external circle must be only Global | [14:12] |
ricks99 | Yes, global perms are applied at to the Group
Global perms == Group perms Maybe "direct object perms" for the center? does that make more sense? that's what it is called in the UI "No direct perms yet applied to this object" ricks99 needs more coffee, obviously | [14:12] |
*** | matteo_servas_it has joined #tikiwiki | [14:15] |

I took me 2 full days to figure this out | [19:43] |
lmnt | thanks so much | [19:44] |
sylvieg | tiki coding is not clean - but it needs time to fix that..
the plugin uses mb functions and non mb functions together - not good | [19:44] |
lmnt | i think its a great product, even with the code thing, but now its even better lol | [19:45] |
sylvieg | the problem was for any plugin not only CODE | [19:46] |

Gergely | Hi, a few weeks back I asked how the "Show user's real name instead of login (when possible)" works. I learned then that there is a user preference "realname," which may be added to a user tracker. So I added such a field. However, it still does not work. Any idea how to set it up? | [20:33] |
sylvieg | How do I load a custom jquery in tiki?
Gergely: perhaps it does not work in all the palces does it work in the login box for instance? | [20:33] |
Gergely | No, I did not see it working in any of the places. | [20:35] |
sylvieg | do you clear the cache? | [20:35] |
Gergely | No, I shall do it now | [20:35] |
great, it almost works..
for the sysadm it works. I just cannot fill in the realname tracker item field for anybody else. so it is empty. therefore it is not replaced, I guess should not it replaced even then? | [20:41] | |
sylvieg | it shopuld not be empty - you should have the user login at least | [20:43] |
Gergely | how can I fill it in? it is not to edit in the admin interface, neither in the tracker plugin | [20:45] |

sylvieg | what do you mean fill the real name for each user? | [20:48] |
Gergely | where is that info stored? what I did is that I created a user pref field in a user tracker with param "realname"
... this is how I understood this should happen | [20:50] |
sylvieg | you can at least as an admin modify the real name in user prefs from tiki-adminusers.php
for the traker field - I never tested | [20:52] |
Gergely | do you mean "edit user: .. " tab?
there is only e-mail, passwd, repeat passwd, and a button that send to the user tracker I see where the user preferences are. a tiny button it only has "new password" and "confirm new passwd" even the admin user does not have any input box to show his real name: "System Administrator" found under myinfo there. not editable | [20:53] |
sylvieg | User Preferences Screen try to check this option | [21:01] |
Gergely | sylvieg: thank you. also checked where it works: unfortunately, in 2 of the 3 places I use it does not: trackerlist, pretty tracker, while for the tracker commments it does. I will update the documentation.
I would give it a try to get it work for those 2. If I did so, where could I submit? oh, doc.tikiwiki.org is down | [21:10] |
