MitchK: Hello
ttrimm: Hello
MitchK: how are you? :)
ttrimm: all right.
MitchK: Do you work with tiki?
ttrimm: I am a user of it, but I don't work with it
MitchK: ah, so you can't give me a short feedback, how I can show anonymous users my categories?
ttrimm: let me see if I can find something
MitchK: Thank you
ttrimm: Are you familiar with http://twbasics.keycontent.org/Welcome
MitchK: let me see
I am trying this video from the page
http://twbasics.keycontent.org/movies/menus_40.htm
In a minute I will figure out whether it works or not
hm
the menu is hidden
ttrimm: if it's hidden, there should be a way to unhide it
MitchK: I search for it. I will check whether I forgot something
ah
I have forgotten to create a module
ttrimm: I have been writing very basic starter articles on wikiHow.com...
MitchK: let me bookmark this site
ttrimm: If you find a topic that a new person might need to know at a very basic level, would love to hear about it
MitchK: what a great design - your own?
ttrimm: Not mine. I write articles at http://www.wikihow.com
MitchK: Okay. :-) I will let you know!
ttrimm: been resourcing this to learn how to do a wiki and writing articles
same username on wikihow
MitchK: It's not a basic question, but everytime when I look at all the tiki-wikis, I think about whether it is possible to create a rich portal-main-page (the first page a user will see) like the one on wikipedia.org
ttrimm: that site there is pretty quick about answering questions posted to it
you should see something in the lower left corner
ight need to create an account or use one you have
might
Lower right i mean
MitchK: wait
what do you mean?
wikihow?
ttrimm: no, on tikiwiki for smarties
there should be a blue panel at the bottom of the screen
you might be able to log in there. been a while since I found it, so not sure of what you would see
MitchK: Hmm
because
The content is good but the one who created the UI didn't care about new users
ttrimm: brb
MitchK: ah
forget it :)
I found it
ttrimm: how is that
MitchK: it's a really small button
okay
registered
did you recognize the wiki-question ?
ttrimm: how so
what do you see?
MitchK: I mean the question from above :)
whether it is possible to create such rich-portal-appereances like wikipedia.org with tikiwiki out of the box
ttrimm: Not seeing it in the comments box.
MitchK: no no
its a question I ask you :)
ttrimm: I don't know. It is pretty powerful. Do you know how to post it there?
MitchK: at wikipedia.org?
No.
I am a complete newbie to wikis at all
ttrimm: no...at the smarties site...
MitchK: No
I don't know
but it seems like I have to wait until the administrator has checked my registration
ttrimm: I will post it for you.
MitchK: Thank you
ttrimm: do you have a google account?
It is posted. You should see it there now
MitchK: No! Of course not! :) Big brother is watching me enough :-)
ttrimm: Oh. you can log in with twitter or gmail if you have them as well.
do you see your question posted now?
MitchK: No, you mean in the twitter-box?
ttrimm: it should say 43 or 44 commentsin the lower right
MitchK: http://twbasics.keycontent.org/tiki-index.php
I am at this page
did you mean another?
ttrimm: the bar shows up on any page. it is in that bar.
our comment is on the bottom
Your
MitchK: can you copy&paste the comment?
ttrimm: what browser are you using?
MitchK: iron chrome ( it's like google chrome )
ttrimm: downloading chrome
MitchK: okay
but
if you can show me the comment
via copy&paste
I can search for it within the source-code
ttrimm: It's in the blue bar on the bottom. I put in exactly what you said.
MitchK: maybe I overlook it
There is no blue bar
at tiki for smarties is no blue bar
ttrimm: I don't know why you don't see it. will do a screenshot.
Via #tikiwiki IRC is it possible to create such rich-portal-appearances like wikipedia.org with tikiwiki out of the box
exactly what I put in
MitchK: ok let me see
okay
I see it
it is white
not blue :)
ttrimm: oh. that could be browser specific
MitchK: or at least country-specific
hm
I did exactly what was shown in the posted video
but I still got a small problem
Can I explain it to you?
ttrimm: you can try, but I am not that much more experienced.
MitchK: Okay
I created a small menu
ttrimm: I have just been writing for a wiki for a while
MitchK: and there is a "category" item in the menu's list
I can see the category when I am logged in
unfortunately
If I am not logged in
I can't see the category-list
The permission is set to be "anonymous"
Oh
Solved!
ttrimm: How did you solve it?
MitchK: The global-permission wasn't set. I don't know why this was a problem, since I had it overridden
but when I went to "permissions" and looked for category view-permissions and set it to true for anonymous, the problem was solved
ttrimm: that's kinda how I figured things out...I fumbled
MitchK: I want to use the wiki as my personal notice-book
notebook
hm
do you know what I mean?
ttrimm: nice. I think so.
I would like to see it. might make a good wiki article..
MitchK: How I solved the problem?
ttrimm: No. Using a wiki as a notebook
do you have a URL?
MitchK: No, it's all on localhost, unfortunately.
ttrimm: mine, such as it is, is at http://teresat.net/wiki
MitchK: Hm, using a wiki as a notebook is quite easy
it's like a wiki, but you write things that are not publical available
I am a developer
and as a developer, I need to collect and organize some information
and this is done by the wiki
ttrimm: Its for work. I want to figure out if I can keep certain articles unseen or multiple wikis with (or without) reinstalling
I can see how that would work.
It's a good idea if I can figure out how to document something I am not doing
MitchK: Yes, it is
I am not sure whether I understand you right
do you want to know how to keep some documents unseen?
for public users
or special user-groups?
ttrimm: which part
those ones you see, while they don't have any proprietary info on them are meant for work
no reason for anyone but me
and I want to have a second wiki...
MitchK: for proprietary info
?
ttrimm: so do, I reinstall it separately, or create a second one in there.
sorry, I can be a bit vague at times
MitchK: No problem :)
Just to draw a picture of what you want:
You create a new article
let's call it
"How to motivate yourself for work"
the "open" article, free for everyone, says "keep smiling all the time - it motivates"
the proprietary version of the article on the other hand gives more information for the user
is this what you want?
ttrimm: not really, although nice thought.
MitchK: hmm
ttrimm: I basically want two separate wsikis
wikis
ONE I want viewable by yself
myself
MitchK: ah
okay
now i understand
ttrimm: Just reminders on how to do separate tasks that I can access anywhere
MitchK: sounds a little bit like a ticket-system, doesn't it?
ttrimm: wouldn't a ticket system be for getting jobs done??
MitchK: ticket systems were used by developers to create small "tickets" (you can compare them with note-papers) that define a task and whenever you complete some stages of the task, you can document them
ttrimm: like ordering work and following it
MitchK: yes
ttrimm: could be.
MitchK: tiki offers a ticket system
as far as i know
ttrimm: I see trackers but don't know what they are
MitchK: can you show me a link?
ttrimm: where I am seeing it is on the personal wiki
http://twbasics.keycontent.org/Displaying+and+Editing+Trackers&highlight=tracker
MitchK: let me see
ttrimm: I think they are for trackbacks
another concept I am struggling with
MitchK: yes, they are
but there is a ticket system anywhere
I read of it
ttrimm: http://www.wikimatrix.org/show/Tiki-Wiki-CMS-Groupware
http://www.wikimatrix.org/wiki/Tiki%20Wiki%20CMS%20Groupware:Ticket%20System
MitchK: exactly ;) but i can't finde any notice at tikis page
ttrimm: and there isn't any actual page there
***: Caarrie|away is now known as Caarrie
MitchK: Welcome Back Caarie
ttrimm?
ttrimm: yes?
MitchK: Is it absolutely important to use tiki for the ticket system?
ttrimm: No. I just want to have a way of writing down how I do things at work.
TW seemed the easiest
Tikiwiki|bot: Welcome to the official Tikiwiki English Irc Channel. TikiWiki or better known as TW, is your Groupware/CMS (Content Management System) solution, you can get more infomation at http://info.tikiwiki.org/ .
ttrimm: oh wow...
some stuff I only do every 3 months and by then I forget
MitchK: sounds like my mom, when she didn't work with Microsoft Office for a few months :)
