Robert__Hello -- I'm thinking about using Tiki to set up a small social network site, and have a couple of quesitons
*questions*
[17:04]
CIA-65tikiwiki: 03jonnybradley * r28737 10/trunk/lib/wiki-plugins/wikiplugin_trackerfilter.php: [FIX] trackerfilter: Fix JS code to make results from multiple trackerfilters on one page persist following div class reorganisation. [17:04]

jonnyb: welcome to the unit test world ;)
[17:04]
jonnyb:P [17:05]
rodrigo_sampaiojonnyb: not everything is working as it should now
jonnyb: we need to improve some things
[17:05]
Robert__Thank you. First, when navigating the Tiki site, each new page goes through a strange partial-loading "flicker", where it cycles a few times before finally fully loading. I've never seen this before. [17:05]
rodrigo_sampaiojonnyb: but for sure what we have now is better than nothing [17:05]
Robert__I'm using FF3 [17:05]
jonnybrodrigo_sampaio: it's only because LPH tells me off when i break them! [17:05]
rodrigo_sampaiojonnyb: so the second step for you is to start writing tests for new code you add :P [17:06]
jonnybRobert__: do you have firebug installed?
rodrigo_sampaio: yeah yeah... i know ;)
[17:06]
Robert__I don't think so. I have lots of FF extensions, but not sure about that one [17:06]
rodrigo_sampaiojonnyb: we still need a way to make our tests independent of the current database used in tiki installation
jonnyb: after that for me is just about writing tests as much as posible
jonnyb: if you need help with phpunit let me know
[17:06]
jonnybi guess using sqlite or something would be the way to go [17:07]
chealerchibaguy: this $_POST["thread_sort_mode"] issue, do you know if it ever happens in comments in general (say in WIki pages)? [17:09]
luciashRobert__: if you mean tw.o sites, i have that too :( [17:10]
rodrigo_sampaiojonnyb: can you explain? can we use db/tiki.sql to populate a sqlite database? [17:10]
chibaguychealer, I only see people reporting that error when they're using tw.o's forums. they get it trying to reply to a forum post. [17:10]
luciashRobert__: in FF 3.6 but in FF3.0 or FF4 beta 1 i don't have that issue [17:11]
rodrigo_sampaiojonnyb: so far what we have been thinking is to have a separate mysql database for the tests [17:11]
jonnybluciash: (hi!) and Robert__ - i think it would be worth trying with body {display:block} as i think firefox 3.5+ doesn't seem to like that [17:11]
Robert__Second, I'm pretty new to putting together a social network. I was thinking of using a packaged social network "kit" like SocialGo or another Ning alternative, but I wanted to make sure that I can use a domain I own as its URL. Am I correct in thinking that Tiki is basically a software package that one downloads, modifies and then hosts on one's own server? -which means that I can use my own dedicated domain? [17:11]
luciashhi jonnyb, good idea (prossibly ;)) [17:12]
Robert__luciash: interesting. Is FF4 pretty stable? Do you recommend it? [17:12]
chibaguyluciash, do you get the fullscreen icon in other themes? I don't seem to, in the ones I checked so far (in branch 5). [17:12]
luciashchibaguy: hmm, let me check [17:12]
chealerchibaguy: right, thanks [17:13]
Robert__jonnyb: I guess I'm concerned that, if Tiki uses its own code for this site, and I d/Loaded and used their code, that visitors to my Tiki-based site, who are also using FF3x might have similar problems. [17:13]
jonnybyes Robert__ - we all are [17:14]
luciashchibaguy: nope, i don't have the icon with strasa either, weird, either somebody thought it is not good to have the icon displayed, or it is a regression bug [17:14]
jonnybi believe i've tracked it down to something in lite.css where the body gets set to "be" a table-cell [17:15]
Robert__jonnyb: "we all are"...what? Concerned about this? Is it a known bug? [17:15]
jonnybRobert__: at least that's what fixed some other ff issues [17:15]
chibaguyluciash, yes, probably a regression bug. [17:16]
jonnybit seems to be intermittent - doesn't happen on all tiki sites, or all pages and it started with fx 3.5 [17:16]
chibaguyit's ok in trunk, though.
sorry, the fullscreen icon is visible in trunk.
[17:16]
luciashchibaguy: yep
jonnyb: it must be something else causing this, when it doesn't happen on all tiki sites
[17:16]
chibaguyabout the firefox flickering, I thought it was due to firebug add-on. does it happen with no-addons firefox too? [17:17]
CIA-65tikiwiki: 03sampaioprimo * r28738 10/trunk/ (94 files in 47 dirs): [MOD] svn mv lib/core/lib/* lib/core/ (please help checking if everything is working) [17:18]
Robert__I just checked my FF add-ons list, and I don't have FireBug installed
The only add-on that I could imagine might affect things is Greasemonkey, but I doubt it's the culprit
[17:18]
chibaguyjonnyb said it stopped when he removed the firebug add-on. [17:19]
luciashjonnyb: we shouldn't try workaround problems by making global preventive "fixes" (imho) - the display: table and display: table-cell has its purpose to make the site layout work properly in every browser [17:20]
jonnybhi chibaguy - yes, it did once - i think [17:20]
chealerdon't worry about that last commit, we have rodrigo_sampaio just next to us, we can perform any punishment requested immediately [17:20]
Robert__@chibaguy: well, I don't have firebug, and I get the flicker [17:20]
rodrigo_sampaiochealer: :P [17:20]
chibaguybut I don't get it at all tiki sites, so it seems to be a combination of some configuration of tiki and some aspect of firefox. [17:21]
jonnybi've spent 20 to 30 hours at least already on this one, can't afford any more time now, sorry [17:21]
chibaguychibaguy will remove add-ons from ff on one pc and check sites. [17:21]
rodrigo_sampaiochealer: just did that because typing the last useless lib was annoying ;)
chealer: I hope everything is working...
[17:22]
Robert__Well, maybe I'll download Tiki and give it a try. Thanks, everyone, for the info. [17:22]
chibaguyrodrigo_sampaio: thanks for the blog improvements :-)
Robert__: regarding what you said before, Tiki doesn't really have to modified, just uploaded and configured (admin options, prefs, etc.)
[17:22]
luciashchibaguy: nope, 3.6.8 with all addons disabled is working fine on dev.tw.o [17:24]
Robert__@chibaguy: OK; I'll try it out. Thanks [17:24]
luciashchibaguy: Firebug was one of them I disabled ;) [17:25]
jonnybin one of my tests it seemed that disabling the add-ons (firebug) wasn't enough, in the end i uninstalled it and it was ok, but maybe that was just restarting the browser that did it [17:25]
luciashyes, disabled and restarted here and it seeems to help [17:26]
jonnybit's a tricky one to track down, seems to come and go [17:26]
chibaguyMy impression is most FF users (w/no webdev addons) don't experience the flickering. or else there'd be reports of it. [17:26]

chibaguyff 3.6 seems smoother than before, but there's still a on-and-off when pages load, whereas with opera, after you see the page, it doesn't go away again during the loading.

chealerHideMe: in what environment? [19:26]
***coaboa_ has quit IRC (Remote host closed the connection) [19:29]
HideMechealer, debian linux
exim installed.... looking at tiki more it seems to use sendmail
ick
[19:40]
chealerHideMe: right. is sendmail working fine? [19:43]
HideMesendmail isn't installed, nor would I advise it. [19:43]
chealerHideMe: I mean sendmail in general, not the sendmail software. is exim working? [19:46]
HideMeYes exim is working.... I can send mail from the command line using exim.
The "forgot password" test mails from tiki however do not work.
You have tiki working with exim?
[19:48]
chealerHideMe: yes. did you do the test in the installer? [19:57]
HideMeYes, but it failed as exim wasn't installed at that point.
With no option to re-run.
[19:58]
chealerHideMe: you should be able to re-run if you go back to that step? [19:59]
HideMerun the installer again? [19:59]
chealerHideMe: sorry, that was an affirmation.
HideMe: yes
[20:00]
HideMeI've got the tiki all setup the way I want now..... starting over isn't desirable. [20:00]
chealerHideMe: the "installer" does more than installing in fact, it can handle upgrades too [20:01]
luciashHideMe: the installer can be used for upgrades too, no need to start again
:)
[20:01]
HideMeMmm ok.... so use the "reset or upgrade your database" option under general? [20:02]
luciashyep, just go to the tiki-install.php again
then choose step you need
(you need just to test the mail working, right ?)
[20:02]
HideMecorrect... just did so and it was received.
Now can lock the file and exit again?
[20:08]
chealerHideMe: yes [20:09]
HideMeToo late.... I did it.
:)
Mmmm very odd.
The test mail was sent/received.... but the 'forgot password' mail wasn't.
[20:09]
chealerHideMe: sent to the same address, of course? [20:13]
HideMeyes.
ideas?
[20:14]
chealerHideMe: validation mail and/or forgot password mail? [20:22]
HideMeforgot password mail
validation didn't work last time I tried either
[20:23]
chealeris any mail working other than the installer?< [20:24]
HideMehow so? [20:24]
chealerHideMe: what do you mean by how so? [20:25]
***MacLeod has quit IRC (Quit: Page closed) [20:25]
HideMeThe only two options to send mail (that I have set up) are the validator and the forgot password.
anyway.... it's the weekend. enough tinkering, I'm going out.
pick up on this later.
thank
[20:25]
chealerHideMe: you can have notification mails/watches at least [20:26]
HideMethanks for the assistance. [20:26]
