this is the script which is used to display the avatar
CameronGoble: That shows a blank screen
Nothing in the course to that page, either
er, "source"
JoernOtt: hmmz, did you check the access/error log of the server?
sometimes enabling the "show php errors" settings in the admin section is also useful so that you don't have to look at the logs for everything
CameronGoble: I greped the error.log for my username, also "avatar"
Ah, good point, I'll turn that on
Okay, PHP error logging is on, I still get a blank when pulling up that link
JoernOtt: I encountered some problems with "buggy" PNG images some time ago and I only found out that it was a firefox problem, when I tried to open the file with firefox
what format do you use?
CameronGoble: The avatager was a jpg
"avatager?" Ugh. Sorry for my crappy keyboarding skills today. :)
I've tried with pngs also, though
JoernOtt: well, check your access_log as well
if nothing shows upo in the error_log, this means that the script does not cause any errors
I checked the upload on my tiki6 test server and it worked perfectly with a gif, a jpeg and a png file
the picture should have been uploaded to the database
CameronGoble: My storage is in a directory, I'll change it to database

JoernOtt: ok, this means when uploading the avatar, there is a problem
is the image bigger than 45x45 pixels?
CameronGoble: Might be, let me check
Yeah, it is :( I'll resize and try again
JoernOtt: tiki uses the GD library functions to manipulate the image
CameronGoble: I thought so. Does that mean it resizes dynamically?
JoernOtt: so, when you run out of memory with one of those functions or if they can't handle the image, this could happen
CameronGoble: Ahha
JoernOtt: at least it does when uploading the avatar into the users table
I just looked at the source code of tiki-pick_avatar.php to figure out what happens
CameronGoble: Well, I have lots of virtual memory, and my real memory has about 130MB free
I'll try resizing the image to 45x45 and uploading it
JoernOtt: well, you can check, which version of gd is available and what the memory_limit in your php.ini is
I go for 128 MB atm on all my tiki servers

JoernOtt: yanick_, which tiki version?
yanick_: 5.1 I think
JoernOtt: usually the admin password is "admin" and the setup process requires you to change it right away
yanick_: JoernOtt, yeah, I know that, but I can't even login for the first time
JoernOtt: you should set up 5.3 which fixes a lot of small errors in the 5.x series
yanick_: unless I'm missing something....
so, I'll just dump that Fantastico installation and simply drop the new version on the FTP and run the installer?
JoernOtt: do you have shell access?
yanick_: it would be nice to have an updater directly on the admin panel
I have setup a PHP shell, it's basically the same
JoernOtt: ok, running the setup.sh script is far easier than doing things manually :-)
read http://doc.tiki.org/Installation
yanick_: alright I'll try that
I have to go, but will be back later
JoernOtt: the doc on how to set up tiki is quite good
and create a utf8-database
this saves you a lot of latin1<->utf8 problems later
yanick_: since I have things over my heads at the moment, I didn't want to bother with reading installation manuals and be done with it :)
I always use utf-8 (I'm on Linux)
JoernOtt: hehe, it is a 5 minute setup
well, some people create latin1 databases in phpMyAdmin and then have the probs
so basically its a wget of the tar.gz, followed by untarring it and running sh setup.sh at the console and then go inti http://yoursite/tiki-installer.php

damn, never mind :)
in the preview, it looks fine, but when saving the page, the ( etc. are removed

ricks99: do you mean like (((foo|bar))) works for me
***: Caarrie has joined #tikiwiki
yanick_: ((foo()))
actually : ((foo|foo()))
and the link should look like "foo()?"
but it shows like "foo(?)"
ricks99: why not simply ((foo))()
yanick_: I'm merely asking if it's possible
ricks99: using wiki or wysiwyg editor?
yanick_: wiki
I read that the wysiwyg is buggy
ricks99: wysiwyg is great in 6. nearly perfect
doesnt look like ( or ) is valid within a wiki link. would have to use external syntax instead

ricks99: [foo|foo()] will work fine (of course, you'll lose backlinks :(
yanick_: backlinks?
ricks99: http://doc.tiki.org/backlinks
yanick_: is this wiki syntax an implementation from this project, or is this from a wiki syntax parser library of some sort?
in the former case, I would suggest featuring enclosing within apostrophe the word that include some "invalid" characters : ((foo|"foo()"))
ricks99: feel free toadd it is as wish list http://dev.tiki.org

ricks99: use the "Report a bug or suggest an enhancements" link
yanick_: alright, got it

yanick_: the little yellow box on the left is quite distracting....
ricks99: @changi: any items for release notes 6? i'm going to start the page (since the installer has the link...)

yanick_: issh... table builder is executing some endless javascript...
waiting for the browser to tell me to stop the script execution
the basic features should be fixed before going on and adding new ones....
the syntax highlighter is not working either for "C"
changi: yanick_: you need to add geshi to have syntax highlighting
yanick_: changi, why isn't that added automatically if I have the "Code" plugin enabled ?
changi: becaus geshi is not lgpl
so you have to get on your side
yanick_: there is no mention of that in the plugins
changi: yanick_: the pluing code use system highlight for standard code, but geshi have lots more
yanick_: changi, if this is so, then there should be a notice because at the moment, the plugin says it can highlight many languages, even C, but it does not and does not say that I'm missing anything
at the very least, there should be a process to auto install "geshi"
changi: yanick_: it's a good proposition, just post it on dev.tiki.org
yanick_: http://doc.tiki.org/PluginCode
yanick_: everything is explain
***: fabricius_ has quit IRC (Ping timeout: 252 seconds)
yanick_: changi, ... really, I understand that the doc explains everything, however it's of no real use if there's no mention of it in the program; why not adding links to related doc pages in TikiWiki ? For example, you have ? buttons almost everywhere, but most of them are pretty useless... why not making these button link to the documentation instead?

nkoth: hmm I moved to use disk vs database and larger file uploads now work
changi: nkoth: maybe a database restriction ?
yanick_: changi, http://yourdomain.com/tiki-admin.php?page=textarea <-- I mean this page has no mention of that
changi, for the code plugin, all the help button display some pretty useless info....
changi, on GeSHi's site, it points to TikiWiki, but doesn't say how to install it
bah, found it :/
changi: changi: http://doc.tiki.org/Plugincode#Installing_GeSHi
yanick_: you can download it from sf.net
yanick_: why installing new stuff is overly complicated, I've been "playing" with TikiWiki and configuring for nearly two hours now, and I'm not yet done. Too much reading
changi: yanick_: just for the record Tikiwiki is now Tiki :)
