xavi: JoernOtt: I saw your comments yesterday...
hi JoernOtt
.. comments/questions about making a VM Ware applicance with Tiki, etc.
JoernOtt: yes
xavi: I had the same interested years ago, and moved to making an .iso
which can be used as VM Ware thing, and Virtual Box, and/or others
as well as being usable as LiveCD
JoernOtt: but what happens with the data/configuration stuff?
xavi: and convertible (easily) in LiveUSB
for that, LiveUSB should be the way to go, imho
even if that TikiLiveCD, built from Slax (in purpose, after searching and trying with MANY distros), you can use some net disk drive offered by Slax author
afaik
I haven't used that net drive, but it's there on the desktop
JoernOtt: well, I don't know slax very well
(never heard of it befdore the tiki cd)
xavi: for my needs, I used to have TikiLiveUSB for people attending some course I taught on Tiki administration years ago
SLax is a slackware modified distro
to keep it small, with KDE 3.x, easily i18n and l10n
JoernOtt: Most of the target audience has vmware player, but getting an USB stick working or even booting from USB in VMWare is a PITA
xavi: ^much easier to have in other langs differnt than english, than with DSL, DSL-N, or other small distros (Puppy Linux is getting closer)
for VM Ware, you could use the ISO file
JoernOtt: At my old school we have a minimal gentoo with xfce4 working on a broad range of hardware
the question with the VMWare stuff is where will the data be saved
xavi: :-) xfce: most common distros with xfce (like xubuntu or similar) are heavier than Slax with KDE 3.x, imho
and I've tried a few
in old ocmputers
and very old ocmputers
safest option, probabaly: in some net disk (dropbox, the one provided by SLax, or others)
JoernOtt: well, most computers at school qualify as very old ;-) and we got rid of SuSE/KDE because of the length of the boot process
xavi: :-)
give our TikiLiveCD a go :-)

xavi: currently based on Slax 0.6.x, but previous LiveCD's, were based on Slax 0.5.x, and I tried those on very old computers, and were impressive
hi chibaguy
JoernOtt: Apart from having difficulties with slow internet connections and firewalls, I don't like storing data out of my control
xavi: that Slax distro, also has the option (in theory) to save changes in a file on disk, or on a usb key
JoernOtt: that sounds very good
This weekend I will most definitely try it out
xavi: that save changes on file: was buggy after the second session, afaik. (with Slax 0.5). With Slax 0.6.x I haven't tried
ok

JoernOtt: hehe
xavi: the last version has very little documentation

xavi: sorry for that
JoernOtt: well, maybe I'll add something to the doc then in the time saved for setting up a VM
xavi: but you can have a look at similar documentation (for the TikiLiveCD 0.5.x version)
ok, nice :-)

fabricius: Polom!
how r u everybody?
coaboa: hi fabricius
fabricius: my good morning question:
let´s say I have two tiki-installations
I have a tracker in one installation and want to show that tracker in the other installation
is that possible? if yes: how and where I find the appropriate doc, respectively what is the name of the appropriate function/plugin?
chibaguy: luci, sorry about that. I guess it seemed natural to make the change in lite.css rather than add code to another file to override it. Everyone thinks of lite.css being just one file in Tiki rather than having a standalone existence, probably.
luci: chibaguy: now (besides your commit) i notice also nylothßs r29844 and the discussion about the change... i am not sure it was good idea to change lite.css fundamentally in the freeze mode, so i would rather see it as overrides in layout.css, than modifications to lite.css
chibaguy: The timing was due to some problems apparently due to body {display:table} so it was considered a fix, and so ok during the freeze, as I understand it.
luci: i am not able to react to the thread now... no SMTP for my sfATground account here in swiss
yep, i still read the messages, sorry i did not notice it earlier as on travels
chibaguy: yes, it's hard to keep up when traveling, etc.
luci: i wonder, if the regression bug with layout on doc.t.o and tv.t.o is related to this
chibaguy: Which doc.t.o bug do you mean? I'm aware of the background image being missing, for one.

xavi: fabricius: or PluginSNARF
chibaguy: right, sorry, that's what I meant.
xavi: hi luci
fabricius: xavi: thx a lot, I´ll do that
luci: chibaguy: also notice the "post-it" note
xavi: fabricius: but they are not perfect solutions, since you will probably get the header and side columns from the site2 inside site1
chibaguy: yeah, hard to not notice that. ;-)
luci: chibaguy: it is aligned on the edge of the fixedwidth container instead of the body as on dev.t.o as it should
chibaguy: ah
xavi: unless you use PluginIFRAME in site1, fetching the tiki-index_p.php version of your wiki page where you show your tracker data, etc.
luci: chibaguy: so it is not only "the header background image is missing"
fabricius: xavi: I want exactly to prevent this! -> just include the textarea of the other Tiki site
xavi: fabricius: notice that I wrote tiki-index_p.php and not tiki-index.php
fabricius: xavi: noticed, thx
xavi: fabricius: and good luck (you can always hire some coder to improve what you get)
bbl
luci: chibaguy: i have added the issue to http://dev.tiki.org/tiki-index.php?page=Tiki6#Regression_bugs
JoernOtt: fabricius: with snarf, you can use some regex
fabricius: xavi: I know, but privately I have no money at all by now and in our organisation we work all voluntarily => I will brake it down in the next weeks and if there still are some issues left, I hope my organisation will have some amount of money left, to support a coder for the certain issues
JoernOtt: sorry for silly question, but what is regex? heard this word before, but have no clus ;-)
JoernOtt: if you have control over both sides, you can sneak in some invisible markers (like comments or a group of )
fabricius: I indeed have control over both sites
JoernOtt: Regular Expressions are a very powerful (but also complex) way of filtering/replacing rules
fabricius: ok
and with those regexes it would be possible, to include certain content, like trackers from one site to thze other?
JoernOtt: for a start, look at http://doc.tiki.org/PluginSnarf&structure=Documentation
also use http://de2.php.net/manual/de/function.preg-replace.php

***: luci has quit IRC (Ping timeout: 265 seconds)
chibaguy: ah, I just remembered why fivealive's bg images are cut off. it's a fixed-width special case.
I don't know why it broke exactly, but it needed an !important to fix it.
CIA-60: tikiwiki: 03chibaguy * r30004 10/branches/6.x/styles/fivealive.css: [FIX] Page background images weren't going full-width (in this theme, div#fixedwidth is full-width to allow wide header and footer background images; divs #header-top, #tiki-top .wrapper, and #middle have width: 990px).
chibaguy: I guess this means you can't currentlly have a really full-width fivealive layout, unless overrides are written for the site.
ah, actually there's a way: body.fixed_width #header-top {width: 990px}, etc. if we want this theme to behave just like the others.
***: luci has joined #tikiwiki
luci: chibaguy: hmm, you mean it is good or bad ?
chibaguy: I mean fivealive was designed to be fixed width, so no option was figured out to let the contents go full width, originally, but this could be added easily.
a few changes in fivealive.css.
about the problem we see at doc.tw.o, I don't know why things changed. I fixed it by adding !important to #fixedwidth {width: 100%}.
luci: eek, didn't we try avoid !important when not needed for browser specific hacks ?
:)
i have seen several importants by Jyhem too, i do not get exactly yet why they are needed but i will hopefully understand it soon
sylvieg: +10000 to avoid !important
chibaguy: I need to check the css changes regarding fixedwidth, but it seems an !important is needed to override some recent change.
sylvieg: yeh it is the problem when you begin to put one ... you need to put more...
chibaguy: Now I see that fixed_width.css has #fixedwidth {width: 990px !important}. I don't see why that is necessary.
I'll do a little testing.
luci: thank you !
i am tempted to move the fixedwidth part from lite.css to fixed_width.css
ricks99: @luci: u don't like html emails: ;-)
luci: ricks99: i like them when done properly ;)
ricks99: lol. looks fine in my ms-exchange :-)
fwiw, i thought tha all mail sent to the dev list was converted to plain text. didnt realize that the mail list actually could send as html
chibaguy: Hmm, fixed_width.css's 990px width won't dominate over lite.css's 100% width unless !important is added, in Opera. I wonder why.
luci, did you give lite.css some special superpowers? ;-)
then again, why does lite.css need to specify #fixed_width?
luci: depends when is fixed_width.css loaded (before or after ?) and if in lite.css is any !important for it (?)
that is my question... you or nyloth added it ?
seems nyloth, right ?
-: chibaguy looks for a place to hide....
luci: hahahah :D
i don't have the revision commit mail open right now luckily ;)
chibaguy: actually the main thing about that change was to put the display:tably property on #fixed_width instead of body.
luci: ok, makes sense
chibaguy: but it wasn't necessary to also specify the width there, I think.
luci: bud #fixedwidth is Tiki themes layout specific, right ?

chibaguy: luci, probably lite.css shouldn't have Tiki-specific rules, thinking about these recent changes. Longer-term, I think it would be good to either fork it or move the rules in lite.css into layout.css and have one fewer stylesheet.
fabricius: I want to redirect the HomePage on www.workspace.vafk.org to perspective one respectively to the Home of perspective 1, but I do not get there
{REDIRECT(url=http://workspace.vafk.org/tiki-switch_perspective.php?perspective=1) /} does not work
any idea?
chibaguy: having the font and heading sizes in lite.css has always bothered me a bit, thinking about lite.css as a Tiki file alongside the other css files.
luci: chibaguy: probably yes... lite.css didn't need any changes for years, so probably it is not worth of it to keep it as external lib... i still wonder lite.css is so future proof without touching it for such many years
amazing to myself

ah, ok, i forgot that display:table causes a div to shrinkwrap to its content size.
fabricius: sylvieg: argggl got the fault: I forgot to specify the HomePage for Perspective One different to default => so the redirect did work, but did point to itself
luci: chibaguy: btw, i noticed in green blog theme that if you put the css menu on the right column, the expanded submenu gets cutt-off (maybe overflow hidden issue ?) too

maybe should be in cssmenus.css
JoernOtt: ricks99: I just noted that you fixed some stuff in the page_contribution form. You put the label around the input and the description text. Is that preferred over <label></label><input /> or <input /><label></label>?
ricks99: self labled fields are fully acceptable and compliant. plus less code.
JoernOtt: I know that it is compliant, I am just trying to learn/improve my style, thats why I ask if <label><input /></label> is preferred over <label></label><input />

jonnyb: ricks99: i have some code fixes locally that seems to be partially working, it's odd as it really looks like it never worked fully
ricks99: dont know.... smarties is tiki5 and i can switch tanslations no issue.
i have upgraded to tiki6 for testing and it doesnt always switch :(
jonnyb: hmmm, i'll check the 5.x code
***: conner_bw has joined #tikiwiki
ricks99: maybe caching something somewhere?
jonnyb: it looks to me like there's no way it can find the translated structure if it's not the user's "main" language (like no_bl=y)
ricks99: its not the structure that is translated -- only pages within the structure
jonnyb: maybe you have your i18n prefs set up differently
ricks99: i can duplicate the issue on tiki6
jonnyb: indeed - but if you give it a french page in the struct it seems not to find the structure
duplicate it working?
***: conner_bw has quit IRC (Read error: Operation timed out)
ricks99: its failing for me even for pages NOT in a struture
jonnyb: ik
it really doesn't look like the code has changed around these bits
ricks99: chk pm
-: changi going crazy, webdav doesn't work for me
changi: does anyone get webdav to work on tiki6 ?
jonnyb: not recently changi
tested it on trunk a while back and it was ok
***: ricks99 has quit IRC (Quit: Get more help: Tiki for Smarties http://twbasics.keycontent.org and Tiki Essentials http://twessentials.keycontent.org)
changi: for me, it does not work since the begining.
:(
i try on local
with cadaver or nautilus and i always get a 401
does the user admin have the right to use webdav ?
jonnyb: should do
trying on demo.t.o
it asked for log in but now is just spinning...
aha! joy :)
slow, but mounted the file gals eventually
http://demo.tikiwiki.org/6x/tiki-webdav.php seems to work ok
although the little png i just uploaded seems to have 0 bytes
changi: do you have a user ?
I create one, but it is disabled
jonnyb: admin
changi: see pm
changi: connection is ok, put data are unusable, no ,
?
jonnyb: same for me i think
changi: do we need to active htaccess to get webdav to work ?
jonnyb: don't think so
changi: ok fresh install of tiki6, just activate webdav on my localhost, and damned, it does not work
jonnyb: i have a server where i've never got it to work, i think it's a bit fragile
changi: php version ?
maybe ?
i use a 5.3 from my ubuntu
jonnyb: more likely to be something in apache i think
the php doesn't do much afaik (there's not much of it anyway)
changi: but the doc does not speak about a specific configuration

jonnyb: you around at the weekend?
changi: only on sunday afternoon
fabricius: rehi
jonnyb: ok, i'll see how i go tomorrow
hi fabricius
fabricius: had my first online workshop tonight
jonnyb: was nice?
fabricius: did show a new user some basics
yes I like that
years ago I did work in adults education
***: redflo has joined #tikiwiki
fabricius: so I used the tiki-conference room and showed the guy how to set up menus and user modules and such
jonnyb: sounds good
fabricius: if the room is free, I´ll take it aswell to show the people of my organisation how things work
really cool with that desktopsharing
jonnyb: the bbb "room" you mean?
fabricius: yes
jonnyb: did the audio work ok for you? seemed broken the other day i tried
fabricius: actually I gave up using audio in the bbb a while ago
usually I use skype or telefone-flat
no problem with national landline calls
jonnyb: shame - in NY it worked well for a while
then went bad eventually (and we reverted to skype)
fabricius: ah btw - in our organisation we use a telefone-conference with international landline numbers
maybe we could try that in berlin
you can call it even fro skype
it is called talkyoo
yes, same problem than in barcelona
had time to follow the Fest, but had to give up finally, cause I didn´t understand a word
was hard enough with skype aswell
even in new york
jonnyb: it's gradually getting (slowly) better though, i think
fabricius: should be
did you know, that the design is very similar to the adobe conference room?
