brand new visitor, haven't noticed any
have a question though... i assume the tiki6 running the main site isn't quite a daily build. is there anywhere to get THAT snapshot?

so tiki.org is running a build from last night, every night?
most *.tiki.org are running daily Build
ok
Perhaps even updated every hour
I'm setting tiki 5.3 wiki. using chinese. It seems that chinese pages cannot be saved after edit. Any settings to be adjusted?
look at bottom: Last update from SVN (6.0beta1): Monday 18 October, 2010 03:21:27 UTC - REV 30088
chineseEdit: this is often related to the database not being in UTF-8
ook
well, before I dive in...
I'm setting up a wiki for my roommates to use for roommate organization stuff. House rules, shopping list, guests and party planning, etc. I'd like wiki pages intermingled with forum-like pages (that aren't necessarily Discussion Pages for other pages, like mediawiki does)
that is, I'd like a standalone Discussion page (or many of them)
chineseEdit : can you test on http://tiki.org/test ?
thanks, marclaporte. I've used utf-8 in tiki. the database is LAMP under ubuntu 10.04, all in the defaults.
chineseEdit: make sure tables are also in UTF-8
wow, you must have a lot of roommates :-)
7br 3ba with a 4000sqft garage/workshop
very collaborative, somewhat collective
sparrW : you can use discussion forums, or threaded comments below pages
sparrW : why do you want 6 vs 5.3 ?
forward compatibility, one less upgrade over the course of the next years
marclaporte: :( I am newcomer to tiki or any other wiki. I setup tiki for the 1st time. how to check tables in UTF-8?
I'd rather have bugs now and the current version a year from now than a working site today and be out of date a year from now
chineseEdit: try to re-run tiki-install.php It may tell you that your tables are not UTF-8 and will offer to migrate to UTF-8
marclaporte: ok, I'll try. thanks
sparrW : you will quickly be obsolete, because of quick release cycle :-)
well, i aim for slightly less quickly
sparrW: but upgrade are easy because all features in one (no pesky plugins to upgrade)
got bitten a while back by installing drupal vX when vX+1 was in beta, then X+1 was the standard for a couple of years and I had an upgrade I could have avoided
sparrW : Tiki has a different model

good morning tikiverse
marclaporte: I tried for few times. It works. Thank you very much.
good morning coaboa
sparrW : how do you intend to customize your Tiki?
not sure
possibly barely at all, for now
From what I see you needing, I don't think you'll need any
at this moment, we just need something more useful and accessible than a big whiteboard :)
but who knows where it will go
So I suggest to take stable 5.3 and to upgrade to 6.1 or 6.2 when it is released
Do you code?
some
sparrW: ah, well in that case. I take back what I said before

good morning marclaporte: how is ti going with the projectmanagement tool? Have you seen the tool "mg" @ mativy.com? a task driven aproach. looks interesting. I likely have to implement a collaboration solution for a large gereman brewery... maybe too big for a lonly tikiist ;-)
sparrW: hehe
sparrW: avoid trunk for now because we want everyone to focus on 6.x until 6.1 is released
coaboa : I had not seen mg
coaboa : looks like trackers can help
checking out 6.x
had it checked out to the wrong directory, tried to move it but ran into duplicate filenames... that was weird
sparrW : what is your SourceForge username?
not a tiki problem
sparr
aww, sourceforge rounds account age up
it's telling me 10 years a few months in advance :)
marclaporte: Yes.My *crazy* idea is that rather then building a tiki core team etc. set up a tikitaskforce. A job drop box, cclight, some balanced ratring and a timetracking where a tiki based project managment tool helpes to keep track of who has done what. and the revenue is divided based on contribution. Only work would be done which could be realy billed.

gotta figure out how to file bug reports again
you hosting on SourceForge?
oh, no
where do bug reports for tiki go?
dev.tiki.org
cool
just to verify, the first line of db/tiki.sql should start with "-- " instead of "- -", right?
We dogfood pretty much everything
easy bug reports are easy :)
either I'm crazy, or that's something super silly to have made it into svn...

OK, here we go!
anyone seen http://cmsreport.com/content/2010/10/testing-popular-cms-and-blogging-systems any idea how tiki stacks up?
sorry used it in a mmrpg
shouldn't it be b@k? ;)
in england, maybe :)
ricks99: no idea, seems tiki is not popular cms (yet)
what are the raw numbers for a new, default tiki install?
usually just "b" is enough imho (the keyboard bit is sort of implied)
just curious to see, raw data, how we stack up?

seems like the char encoding of tikilib has gone weird - anyone got any idea what charset it should be using? i always assumed it was latin1
jonnyb: all files for tiki should be edited in utf-8 afaik
not tikilib (didn't use to be anyway)
and there are some odd chars in there - like § as a delimiter (bad choice)
but it should, just in case if you want to use chars like "©" there
there are some like in take_away_accent() - but they've always looked wrong in the file (because it was utf-8 "via" latin1)
seems it's latin1
if you open it (tikilib.php this is) in utf-8 it seems to damage it
no good...
hmm
i wonder when it happened, had no issues with it recently
windows user with commit acce and wordpad only ;-)
i saw on marc's pc in NY that it messed it up in aptana
i'm trying to edit one via ftp to fix something i can't reproduce locally and it keeps saying "syntax error" (due to encoding weirdness)
maybe ftp client uses wrong encoding?
i think the file is slightly wrong - it should be utf-8 really, but sort of works ok in latin1
most odd
would be better if it was just 7-bit ascii imho, and any clever chars should be hex values, or something
anyway - found the bug :) - fix coming...

need to specify display @ 100%. the thumbnail will *not* be transparent
{img thumb="n"
width="100%"
hmm, that sucks... is this some GD limitation?
amette_: thumbnails are generated by gd which cannot handle the transparency i guess
afaik
hmm, and switching to the other lib, does that help? what was it called?
or maybe it is lame Tiki converting them all to jpg
ImageMagick ?
ah, right
never suceeded to force it to use ImageMagick, good luck bro
well, it's gentoo... *G*
hard to use GD, when it's not compiled in ;)
I might give it a try, thanks bro! :)
hey amette_: another gentoo user
maybe we should create an ebuild for tiki 5.3 and 6 on tiki fest berlin
then we could force ppl to build php with the right use flags (which would help me when I set up a server very late at night)
luciash, have you noticed Opera having trouble with Tiki's CSS?
(or anyone)
Opera doesn't seem to get all the css files when not minified. When css files are minified, then they work ok in Opera.
kinda funny.
hm... after upgrading from tiki 3 -> 6, my google user map no longer shows any of my users's locations
google needs the info itself ;-)

Can someone point me to the proper upgrade strategy to go from Tikiwiki 3.3 to 5.3?
http://doc.tiki.org/upgrade
tabs are no more wrapped with darkroom - that creates problem with fixed width? does somebody feel guilty?
so many bugs in tiki6... introduced recently...
I am running a production site with version 3.3 for the United Nations ... is it advised to upgrade to 5.3 or stay with 3.3? The app will likely continue for another 10 years or more, so I want to make sure we don't get left behind if we fail to do upgrades.
the LTS 3 will be pretty soon replaced with the LTS 6.
@steveR: you might want to review http://dev.tiki.org/Version+lifecycle especially the recommended upgrade paths

Thanks Silvie - very helpful. It appears that upgrading to 6 is the logical thing to do. Since 6 still has a lot of bugs, should I wait for the 6.1 release? Something I read said that upgrading to 6.0 would be easier, another said always upgrade to the .1 version of any major new release.
I think 6.1 is the good choice if not in an hurry - check you got the recent security patch

Hi. On a config section I see a blank page and I wonder where did tikiwiki fail. Is there a PHP error log or a debug mode which displays detailed errors?
hi clemente - in admin/general (hope that's not the one that's broken)
polom
hi chealer
hi jonnyb, luciash and all
yo chealer
clemente: in what environment is Tiki installed? which web server?
chealer: hostmonster, Tiki 5.2. The blank page is the one to move file galleries from database to directory
jonnyb: thanks, with that setting I saw the error. It was: Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 134217728 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 15088644 bytes) in /home2/danielcl/public_html/jam1/lib/core/lib/TikiDb/Pdo.php on line 95
is it a lot of files/galleries?
clemente: eh. that error is not good. you could increase the PHP memory limit, but there's likely a bug causing excessive memory usage.
or it could be huge files?
is it possible to use jQuery Carousel to circle images each with their own link (URL)? I can write JavaScript but wouldn't want to count time separately to keep track of which image is being displayed.
jonnyb: there aren't many files (<30) but some of them are big (not so huge, 20 Mb at most)
chealer: i think so, but i've not done it
own link on clicking the image ?
it might be trying to do them all at once - 30 * 20MB is quite big
or under in the description ?
jonnyb: no, the code in filegallib.php seems to do (function moveFiles) $this->movefile for each file, one after another
probably naughty php not garbage collecting as usual :(
can you get a local version of the site working? (it's lots of hassle)
jonnyb: I tried it before but it didn't work; I'll try again. I can test changes in remote if they won't destroy everything
But maybe it's easier to reproduce the scenario: 30 20 Mb files, and maybe the same php.ini
I could try asking for PHP garbage collection after each iteration of the while loop
it's supposed to do some memory stuff in php 5.3
jonnyb: thanks. do you have any idea how it could be done. it couldn't find a direct support of this use case, nor an event when the image changes, nor a getter for the current image.
my 3 -> 6 upgrade is not going well... now my captchas are not appearing
chealer: sorry no, not tried it
any ideas why it would fail in 6, but b ok in 3?
both recaptcha and regular tiki captcha fail to generate image
hi ricks99 - yes, the captcha was totally replaced a while back - not convinced it's finished...
y, i know. saw it working in earlier 6 alpha
now it doesn't?
i get nada...
but i just checked... im missin gthe tiki-random_num_img

tikiwiki: 03sampaioprimo * r30094 10/trunk/styles/layout/layout.css: [ENH] dynamic size for interactive translation box

clemente: heh. definitely
clemente: odd - that looks harmless enough
what happens if you execute it in phpmyadmin?
(the sql bit, of course)
jonnyb: well, I can see all data without problems
no error or anything weird (presumably)
so it's unlikely to be that line i'd think
In the end it's the line return $pq->fetchAll(PDO::FETCH_ASSOC); in Pdo.php the one which fails, but it was called from my SELECT * query
I'm lost in trying to follow the actual code that's being executed for $this->query. But I confirm that this works:
clemente: (sry, distracted) how many rows is this returning? most odd to cause a memory outage on that imho
select * from `tiki_files` where `path` = '' and fileId = 53
and this doesn't
select * from `tiki_files` where `path` = ''
that should return all the files in the database (not saved as a file)
but you say there aren't that many - 30ish?
101 rows
most of them not very big
ah, hang on - it will also then get all the files' contents
yes, but all together?
bad code :(
what file/line?
oops, wait; mysqladmin died in listing some of the files: #2008 - MySQL client ran out of memory
phpmyadmin, I mean
hmmm, something big in there?
the database weighs 650 Mb
ouch
(Yes, I think tikiwiki should write files to directory by default)
but they should be outside the web root, so you can't tell where it should be
but yes, would be safer
phpmyadmin can show them in small listing, e.g. SELECT * FROM `tiki_files` WHERE fileId>70 and fileId<79
but not in SELECT * FROM `tiki_files` WHERE fileId>70 and fileId<90
So I guess I should have to give PHP more memory this time. But Tikiwiki could move the files without fetching all the files together, but one after the other
i've not often come across tiki databases over 100MB
can you identify one record that's really big?
(looks like it's between 80 and 90! :) )
no, each is 9, 12, 15, 18, 20 Mb, no more. But 10 * 18 Mb > 134 mb (max. allowed)
so which file and line is that?
does it really need to get all fields?
./lib/filegals/filegallib.php → function moveFiles → $result = $this->query($query, array(''));

yes, but sadly it doesn't - not a one liner fix :(
thanks jonnyb - I was on it ... but was obliged to pick up my son - thx for the fix
At least I note the enhancement request; I will try to send a bug report or even work on this. It doesn't seem a big change
hi sylvieg - funny coincidence - a tiki told me i had 18 new messages - well spotted in the first place
clemente: true - should be fixed for 6.0 really
can you add it to http://dev.tiki.org/Tiki6#Todo (not sure it's quite a blocker compared to the rest ;) )
directly there, or in a bug report?
yes there's easiest - we fix trackers in tiki 7 (he he he)
ouch! I lost my edits to the wiki page because I used „preview“
really? that's not nice (and probably my fault this time)
which browser?
conkeror (Gecko engine)
I got a message, something about creating a page because it didn't exist
or /if/ it didn't exist
not heard of that one
u mean Konqueror ?
no, conkeror with c :-)
probably a javascript error
try one of the "main" browsers?
hmm, never heard about that one either
You must specify a page name, it will be created if it doesn't exist.
Editing http://dev.tiki.org/Tiki6
No Javascript errors lately according to Gecko's JS console
can you see if the same thing happens in firefox?
That's not new, I remember the „Preview“ button was broken in official forums or wiki a long time time ago

Firefox does the same

Mmm… last time I got this message in forums when clicking „Preview“ (and only then): Notice: this variable may not be empty: $_POST["thread_sort_mode"]
but this time it's not the forum
no, sounds like it's a js error - do you have firebug?
yes
try enabling "break on all errors" in the console (top left corner)
It happens in other wiki pages (ex. „Get code“). I must only click „Edit page“ and then „Preview“, without any change
tikiwiki: 03sampaioprimo * r30099 10/trunk/ (templates/tiki-edit_languages.tpl tiki-edit_languages.php): renaming tiki-edit_languages.php title since it is not possible to import translantions anymore
yes - all pages on that site will probably be the same
I get no errors, only some CSS warnings
I mean, I get „You must specify a page name, it will be created if it doesn't exist.“, but not JS errors
rodrigo_sampaio: why ? that'd be a shame to loose the import feature
Hi luciash! I knew you would ask me that ;)
rodrigo_sampaio: sorry, maybe i just misunderstood :)
luciash: no problem. now you don't need to import a language to the database to be able to edit it's strings
luciash: that is why I removed the feature
luciash: if you go to tiki-edit_languages.php you can edit the translations and store them in the database without having to import first
ah, so one just overwrites language.php ?
and it gets automatically updated in db ?
when storing in db
jonnyb: I would very happily try the same in my browsers without JavaScript, but tikiwiki doesn't work in plain and simple HTML :-(
At least not the „edit“ button
luciash: yes I guess (not sure if I understood what you mean)
luciash: before if you go to tiki-edit_languages.php you were unable to edit translation for a particular language before importing all its translations to the database
behaviour then
luciash: just use a sensible href for all s
luciash: you usually have to log out then back in to see the difference
href="page.html" ← one page links to another pages; that's the key concept of hypertext
href="#nowhere" ← WWW is broken
ah, clemente - do you have js off? (maybe the new preview doesn't have no-js fallback... yet)
rodrigo_sampaio: you now how it works now when you rewrote it ;) i am just asking, because you said the strings in db override language.php, and i don't know how to clean the db translation strings out easily, without the import feature now
no, with a normal Firefox with no modifications I get the same error
just switch off use db for translations and it get cleared ?
I will try with more browsers
luciash: I'm glad you are asking because you always come with a use case I haven't thought before ;)
rodrigo_sampaio: so when i switch it on again, i will see the fresh new translations from language.php and can continue use it ?
rodrigo_sampaio: heheh, sorry to cause you headaches
luciash: right now there is no user friendly way to remove all the translations from the database (you can go to mysql and type "delete from tiki_language;" :P). if this is needed the best would be to add this feature instead of keeping import language.php for doing that
clemente: yeah, i don't know who invented the a href="#main" when Ajax is on in Tiki (what is it good for)
rodrigo_sampaio: yeah, there is always workaround to go and modify the db directly, but definitely not user (admin) friendly
luciash: I will add a button to delete all the strings from the database
:)
rodrigo_sampaio: cool :)
jonnyb: strange, with Konqueror (this time with k), it works
luciash: having a separate way to remove all the strings from the database, do you see another reason for using import language.php to the database? :P
Kurious...
rodrigo_sampaio: next rfe, add merge translations button :-p
jonnyb: my useragent is: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.1.13) Gecko/20100916 Iceweasel/3.5.13 (like Firefox/3.5.13)
(in Firefox)
rodrigo_sampaio: you mean merge translations from database to language.php?
ops
luciash: you mean merge translations from database to language.php?
luciash: this button exist ;)
luciash: it is very simple, but exist
rodrigo_sampaio: lol, i mean merge translations from received language.php to the current Tiki (database)
clemente: so your firefox is iceweasel? (sorry, another one i don't test for)
rodrigo_sampaio: no idea what to do with conflicts though ;)
luciash: :)
jonnyb: yes, but it's a name change. But you shouldn't „test“ for browser names, but for features: if it has getElementById, do this, else this…
In addition, „Firefox“ appears at the userAgent
rodrigo_sampaio: it would definitely allow better collaborative translating of Tiki though i think when you could receive language.php from contributors, go to i18n.tiki.org, upload that file via browser and merge the new translations easily like that
then just export for svn commit as you do now
jonnyb: I will test it more later, but now I should go away a bit. Thanks for the help in finding the memory problem
rodrigo_sampaio: anyway, you do great job improving that feature, thanks
ok, thanks too clemente
luciash: my impression is that this is too much effort to do something other softwares (like svn) do much better, though I agree with you that having a interface for that would be much more user friendly

no - not htaccess.sh but _htaccess
does anyone know about collations and conversion in MySQL? why would a query like SELECT * FROM `tiki_translations_in_progress` WHERE (`page_id` , `language`) = ( 2002, 'en' )
cause #1267 - Illegal mix of collations (latin1_swedish_ci,IMPLICIT) and (utf8_unicode_ci,COERCIBLE) for operation '='
chealer: sounds nasty - i just looking at charsets etc now
sounds like a difference between local and global mysql settings (horrid)
jonnyb: hum, to me the difference in collations comes from the connection being UTF-8 and the database being latin1. but I don't understand why conversion is not working.
that file is not in the root area of tiki 5.3 where might i find it?
Guest5826: maybe the installer renamed it for you and files starting with a . are hidden
are you using an apache alias for the tiki?
(the string "en" is taken as UTF-8 since the connection is UTF-8 but checked againt the language column which is latin1)
probably not as i don't know what that is. i downloaded it installed the community profile and tried to change the main page. trying something now, though
ran sh htaccess.sh and no go
does it work ok just going to the root of the server? (/tiki-5.3/ presumably)
i can get to the root or anywhere as it's all on my laptop. i can do anything on the tiki. i just get the error when i try to save or preview. it gives the curly arrow when i click stuff and then the error. it does save the stuff if u go direct though and view it
