I dropped all the tables and ran the installer again, and this time no problem.
I really need to try to make a Test New Installation profile, that turns on the popular features and populates them with sample content. I have to waste time doing this pretty often.
...probably with content tuned for theme testing, such as text that describes itself and so on.

nope, home gallery doesn't preselect the gallery on tiki-upload_file.php
it just makes it the default one when browsing/viewing
