josh_: hi everyone...i'm not sure...but can i ask some usability questions in here?
i got a problem by creating a knowledgebase based on structures. i have at least 4 layers in a structure. the page and structure of layer 1 must only be edited by the admin. the page and structure of layer 2 must only be edited by "smalladmins" and below layer 2 every registered user can edit and add pages to the structure. now i started working with objectpermissions. for the first layer...
...(toplevel) i added the perms "tiki_p_edit" and "tiki_p_edit_structures" for the admin...the same perms were added to admins and smalladmins for layer two...and below layer 2 everyone got these permissions. now, according to the deskription in doc.tiki.org i expected that a normal user can see the inputfield of the structure bar from layer 3 and all lower layers, but they can still see...
...these inputfield on layer 1 and 2. i hope you understand my question and my english is not too bad. i hope you can help me. thanks, josh

jonnyb: good thanks
ricks99: polom y'all
jonnyb: the new version 6.2 of Tiki is out - can anyone who's got a few minutes try a quick install of it please? (or more time to do a proper update)
hi ricks99
you can get it from here: http://info.tiki.org/download#Stable
josh_: hi...can someone of you help me solving some problems using structures?
ricks99: hiya jonnyb
what's the problem josh_
josh_: i tried to create a knowledgebase using structures...this structure should be devided in 3 layers
layer 1: only the admin can edit ne pages
layer 2: only admin and smalladmins can edit new pages
below layer 2: everyone can edit new pages
so...i used objectpermissions
layer 1: admin got the right "tiki_p_edit" and "tiki_p_edit_structures"... layer 2: admin and smalladmins got these rights...layer 3: everyone got these rigths
now...according to the structure info page on tiki.org the persons owning the rights should se the input field in the structure top bar of the page....but everyone can see it
ricks99: i suggest using categories instead of applying obect permissions to every single page. much easier to manage
if everyone has tiki_p_edit structures then yes, everyone can edit the structure (that is, add pages to it)
josh_: i got a mainpage including a toc of the structure
***: Yonixxx has joined #tikiwiki
josh_: if i only give the right tike_p_edit_structures to the admin for this page...i thought, that only the admin can add pages in this layer of the structure?
ricks99: i don't understand your concept of "layers" in structures
Bayside: A quick question here. is there a pluggin or feature that allows users to rate a page that way we can measure if an article has been useful to the users?
josh_: they are in my head...virtual ^^
Yonixxx: Bayside there a rating feature in wiki page
josh_: ok..i create a page...and then by clicking the button below "make structure from page" i create a structure for this page
ricks99: @josh_: any group with tiki_p_edit_structues can add new pages to the structure
josh_: in this page i made a toc
ricks99: ok
josh_: so i thought it is like this: if i create objectpermissions for this page...including "tiki_p_edit_structures" for the admin...only the admin can see the input field "edit new page" on top of the mainpage
(sorry for my bad english) ^^
ricks99: the input field displays for every page in the structure
the permission is for the structure -- not the page
***: Yonixxx1 has quit IRC (Ping timeout: 268 seconds)
ricks99: (and your english is just fine :)
josh_: ok...so i can't hide this inputfield for every page of the structure separately?
thx :)
ricks99: you can remove the tiki_p_edit_structures permission from the group that you don't want to have the input field
josh_: i did so...but it didnt work...
with a testuser not included in admins/smalladmins...i can still see the inputfield
on every page of the structure
ricks99: to which group did you assign the _edit_sturctures permission?
Bayside: Yonixxx: I've searched the doc and counldn't find out how to activate it
josh_: only the ones i liked them to have this permissions (admins/smalladmins)...
only at the lowest "layer" registered users got the rights too
ricks99: if registered group has the perm too, then they'll see the field
that's why all users are seeing the field
all users inherit the Registered groupo
josh_: edit: so after layer 2..i wanted every user to see the inputfield...so i gave a objectpermission including these rights for all groups and also for all pages in the substructuer?!?
and i made this changes for the last pages in the structure tree
ricks99: ahh.. ok. i think i see.. you want the field to be visible for *some* of the pages in the structure?
josh_: right
but this doesnt work
ricks99: easiest way to do this is with categories -- not on the page-level permission....
josh_: i have the main page: objectpermissions only for admin
the next lower layer...objectpermission only for admins and smalladmins
and then after this layer..i added the permission to all users for all pages of the substructure(s)
can you follow me?
ricks99: i'm not sure if you can manipulate stuctuere perms on a page-by-page basis.
josh_: ok...you suggested using categories
ricks99: i suggest using categories -- will be much easier and make it easier to add new pages, too
josh_: but how does it work
shall i create a category for each "layer"?
ricks99: yes. eaxactly. (adminonly, smalladmin, public) for example
grant the _edit_structures permission to each groupo
*remove* the _edit_structures perm from the global group
then apply the appropriate category to each page, as needed
(PS: hi yonixxx)
josh_: but then the smalladmins (layer 2) have to create a new category for each subpage
or shall i use separate structures below level 2
ricks99: no. there's only 3 categories. when you create a new page, you simply put it in the correct category
josh_: it doesent end at layer 3....the users should be allowed to create deeper "structures" but they mustn't edit or create pages in higher levels
so...the admins and smalladmins are responsible for creating this for example: 1.1
and then a user can create all the following numberings... 1.1.1, 1.1.2, 1.1.2.1
ricks99: users will only be able to edit pages that are in their "category". A "regular" user will not be able to edit a page in the "adminonly" or "smalladmin" categories (if you also set the tiki_p_edit permission)
josh_: yeah...i think i got this
but i need a page displaying the category tree...
and now..if a user will create a 1.1.1
and then a 1.1.1.1
he will have to create new categories...or how can he specify, that the new page is located a level lower?
ricks99: you would use categories to define permissions (which group can edit the page/structure) -- not to specify levels of the structure
sorry, but i'm not 100% i understand
Yonixxx: Shalom all !
josh_: ok...but do i have to combine categories with structures?
hi
ricks99: you apply categories to pages within the structure
josh_: and this works fine?
can i realize that a admin can only add new substructure to the mainpage?
ricks99: if i understand your use-case correctly, it should work. this will allow you to specify which groups (admin, smalladmin, registered) will be able to edit pages and which will have the "ADD CHILD PAGE" input field
josh_: ok...but this sounds like i have to combine user permissions with category-permissions, doesnt it?
ricks99: yes. user category perms to overrdie the global perms
suggest that you review docs: http://doc.tiki.org/permissions#Understanding_Tiki_Permissions
josh_: example mainpage: i add the mainpage to the category "admins" and in the category perms i active tiki_p_edit_structures for the admin group? and then only admins can see the input field on this side?!?
*activate
ricks99: no. you add the perm to the *category*
then assign the category to the appropriate group
josh_: to the appropriate page
ricks99: you put the page in the group
josh_: i assign the perms in the category-permission to the group
ricks99: oops. pages go in categories
-: ricks99 getting confused now.. .not a good sign
josh_: ok...i'll try it
hehe
i'm confused all day working on this problem :)
i hope, i'll solve it soon
ricks99: good luck

-: chibaguy thinks maybe some hints are needed on tiki-admin.php?page=wiki....
chibaguy: oh, there are hints; just weren't displaying for me temporarily.
jonnyb: hi chibaguy - yes, more evolved namings
would be nice to rationalise them, make them all into toolbars maybe, so you can have icons of labels and move what you want where you want it (in modules i guess)
josh_: can anyone help me with structures and categories....i already got help...but it still doesn't work
?
chibaguy: jonnyb: one thing I hear from clients/users is that there is too much duplication with the wiki action links and icons. definitely needs some kind of rationalization/simplification etc.
either text links or icons but not both needed at once, for one thing.
jonnyb: indeed - a new module of some sort seems sensible
but i'm full (until after tiki 7)
chibaguy: yep, it can wait, if no one else takes it up.
josh_: hey guys can't you help me?
***: lphuberdeau has joined #tikiwiki
chibaguy: btw, jonnyb, i have a theme with a custom.js and the js stopped working today or so. I wonder if any js changes happened in trunk very recently that might be involved.
jonnyb: hmm, shouldn't be - any js errors?
chibaguy: I'll have to check.
jonnyb: sorry josh_ - i never got the hang of structures
but would love to replace them with "ordered" categoies
r
josh_: yeah...
but maybe you can help me find some alternatives
chibaguy: josh_: structures are just a hierarchy arrangement of wiki pages, for navigation purposes. did you get a structure made?
josh_: yeah
i'll tell you the problem...ok?
chibaguy: yes, that'd be good.
josh_: i want to create a knowledgebase with 2 "toplayers"...layer 1: only the admin can add new "categories"...layer 2: smalladmins can add new "categories" and all the levels below..the users should be able to create and add new pages...
for example: admin creates 1. house smalladmin creates: 1.1 kitchen and then below kitchen...all users can create deeper structures
for example 1.1.1 cutlery 1.1.1.1 knife 1.1.1.2 fork
the layer 1 and 2 pages shall only include "tocs" for the lower layers...
1.1.1.1 knife etc. shall be filled wiki-pages
or also 1.1.1 if not more partitioned
lphuberdeau: sections deserve a page too
josh_: (i hope you understand my english and my interests)
chibaguy: well, categories would be the way to assign the permissions - all pages at each level would be in their own category. I'm not sure if there is a way to force normal users' new pages to a particular category, though.
josh_: i know that there is a possibility to add a default category to groups
actual i have a structure where the pages of layer 1 and 2 only include tocs
and below them the users can either add a normal page or a further page also including a toc for the next lower layer
lphuberdeau: collaboration does not happen in a perfect way, if you want a content structure that makes sense, you need people to watch over it
forcing people won't work
josh_: ?
in summary..i need a system where admins and smalladmins can define the "structure" of the first to layers and users can add pages or further forks below layer 2
(correct: of the first two layers...)
lphuberdeau: well, categories are admin-defined for most part
and users can add stuff in them
unless you are producing something that needs to look like a book, I would stay away from structures
josh_: but i like the top-to-down numbering of structures
lphuberdeau: you like it or you need it?
chibaguy: I don't know how perms are assigned in structures, like if it's possible for the top two levels of a structure to be admin-only editable, and deeper levels to be editable by non-admins.
lphuberdeau: do those numbers make any sense or are they just pretty?
josh_: it would be a nice-to-have
lphuberdeau: you can always render the category tree differently and add those numbers if you really want them, but they don't really make sense, the only place where they do make sense is when printed because they become a guide to navigation
josh_: so you would prefer a category-tree?
lphuberdeau: categories are much easier to work with
they also allow your content to have multiple categories
josh_: sure? i think it would be much easier for most people to use the inputfield "add page to structure"...
lphuberdeau: for one, I don't think knife belongs under kitchen
josh_: because u can add the page directly into the structure-tree where you want it to have...
lphuberdeau: then you need them to figure out the exact location, deal with ordering, because it's supposed to make sense
***: radek82 has joined #tikiwiki
josh_: yeah...thats a big con of the structure feauture...it orders the items accoring to their creation date, not the name
so...could you explain how to create such a tree by using categories...and how to view them sorted in a wikipage or a module?!?
this would be very nice
lphuberdeau: you can build the tree from admin categories
then there are plenty of plugins and modules that can deal with them
josh_: hmm..ok i'll try something
thanks for your help

If i create or edit an wiki and it is larger than 64k letters (sourcecode) it will be lost/empty -- i have running an old version of tiki (2.2) --> now i try the new verion on http://php.opensourcecms.com/scripts/details.php?scriptid=63 an the problem is there too but on 256k -- can you tell me why? and can i fix this problem?
(no php-error-output)
ricks99: @Nanarek: see faqs: http://doc.tiki.org/Tiki+FAQs#What_is_the_maximum_wiki_page_size_
Nanarek: oh, ok -- sorry (i think i don't search enought)
ricks99: no problem. note that 2.2 is *very* old and no longer supported
Nanarek: i know -- and we will restart our wiki next month with tiki6.1
***: robertplummer has joined #tikiwiki
Nanarek: but...hmm.... i don't understand why the problem comes at 256k on http://php.opensourcecms.com/scripts/details.php?scriptid=63 --> in the FAQs i read 64k(TEXT), 16M (MEDIUMTEXT) or 4G (LONGTEXT)
robertplummer: polom all
Nanarek: and i try wiki-pages with 32k->ok, 64k->ok, 128k->ok and 256k->fail
so what -- we will install it whis "LONGTEXT" so we probably get never size-problems
-whis +with
Thank you! (thanks to all who makes tiki the best cms/wiki i ever seen!)

In the rendering ok tiki pages and modules, I do see a lot of <br><br><br> lined up that screw up my CSS. This looks like to be linked to code in Tikilib parse internals. Clue anyone?
jonnyb: try wiki paragraph formatting
***: JoernOtt has quit IRC (Ping timeout: 240 seconds)
philback: feature_wiki_paragraph_formatting_add_br ? Where is that damn pref in the UI? Can't find it.
lphuberdeau: search for it
"paragraph formatting" should give results
philback: no. Not in the admin panel for the wiki.
nor general
lphuberdeau: I mean, try the search box
above all admin panels
philback: ok. Never noticed that before... damn
lphuberdeau: bit slow the first time because it has to build the index
philback: works! Thanks. But not enabled... so, not the cause of my issue...
lphuberdeau: you need paragraph formatting, just not the add br one
the default is to use br
philback: so: Wiki paragraph formatting [x] and ... but still create line breaks... [ ]
right?
it's in the wysiwig thing.
or the other way around?
lphuberdeau: yeah, like that
philback: templates cleared, feature off. Doesn' change squat.
e.g. Here: http://tiki.socius.be/tiki-index.php?page=Digitale+samenleving The "Thema's" Module on the right side still has a bunch of <br> under it, as are tabs.
Same before: <hr class="hrwikibottom">, lots of spurious <br>'s...
they are everywhere in fact. And it adds unwanted whitespace all over. Looks like TikiLib around lines 6500-6800 is playing tricks.
Some have indeed to do with that pref, but aren't the ones giving trouble since shutting the pref off doesn't change anything.

philback: @lph: the feature indeed works... but now, I have a nice <p> </p> generated that *still* gives me blank space. What to do to get this away?
lphuberdeau: no idea
philback: µTikilib: l 6828 is the culprit...
and the tikilib->close_blocks logic...
