chibaguy: RobertPlummer: It would be good to see some examples of Universal Reports. I don't have any idea of intended use cases.
The name "Universal" suggests I can get reports about virtually everything, but I suspect that isn't actually true. ;-)
RobertPlummer: chibaguy: chibaguy if you create a definition for it, it will create a report on that definition.
chibaguy: It is an abstract way of building reports.
chibaguy: For example?
RobertPlummer: chibaguy: Load it up and look at trackers.
chibaguy: it is difficult to explain abstract, it is so abstract ;)
chibaguy: well, it's 1am here so I can't really get into it at the moment.
but I mean what would _you_ do with it, do you think?
for instance
It seems like if I define a report, then I need to anticipate what data would be necessary for it, and where that data is stored, so in my imagination anyway it seems like the scope is reduced quite a bit from 'universal'.
Is the report derived from tracker items?
RobertPlummer: chibaguy: The report builder saves your defined report, for instance....
chibaguy: I have created two definitions at this time, tracker and logs.
chibaguy: But you can create a definition for litereally any part of tiki you like.
chibaguy: i see.
RobertPlummer: chibaguy: You can create a 1 time report for visits to your site today.
Set the date etc.
Then (I have yet to build) you can load that into a dashboard or a spreadsheet.
chibaguy: How easy is it for a nonprogrammer to define a report?
RobertPlummer: chibaguy: From the reporting engine you will have a
oops
chibaguy: That is the beauty of it.
Just load it up and you will seee.
chibaguy: ok, I'll try it as soon as I can.
RobertPlummer: chibaguy: The user interface is created from your report difinition. The end user never knew it was programmed that way.
***: chealer has quit IRC (Ping timeout: 240 seconds)
chibaguy: This is another topic (more pedestrian) but it's too bad the greater-than and less-than characters in Tiki's code examples don't render correctly.
RobertPlummer: chibaguy: the end user just sees simple things, like picking a tracker, the date range the'd like to analyze, what item id to look for if needed and what fields to display, they click preview and they can look at those results in a spreadsheet, they click export, csv.
chibaguy: (I was looking at the dev.tiki.org/UniversalReports page.)
RobertPlummer: chibaguy: Right, that is for developers
chibaguy: hence the "dev"
chibaguy: I suppose we need a "doc" page too.
chibaguy: But the reports are very easy to assemble, there are still some components that I'm goign to create, like an admin area, where you can create, save, edit reports.
chibaguy: Ok, that's great.
RobertPlummer: chibaguy: Are you sold on it?
chibaguy: Well, the concept sounds very good, but I keep running into features that are at the "stub" stage. ;-)
I tried to check out the invoice feature, but it can't be used yet, etc.
There aren't enough devs with time to fill in the gaps, I guess.

you know to grab several columns from the source tracker
lphuberdeau: single source?
Merbster: only one tracker yes
but there are several item fields in the tracker containing the item list also, but I'd expect them not to interfere?
lphuberdeau: item list is mostly for listing multiple items based on a query
did you try item link?

I need several items in the tracker filtered by category

or so exact matching on an arbitrary field
nothing more

shaun_: does anyone have some good easyphp resources that would explain how to redirect a url? for example. i have the alias "wiki" created on my DC. when you type in "/wiki" it will redirecto you to the proper ip address of the machine that is hosing tikiwiki. the problem is that i would prever it would just launch the site, rather then the easyphp interface initially. i have tried reading up on .htaccess but it seems that will not solve

deeku: Quick question - how do I set the date of an article earlier than 2006? The dropdown list does not have a year listed before that date.
One option, I suppose, would be to directly edit the field in the database... but the date is stored as a number, e.g. 1156625220
CIA-12: tikiwiki: 03robertplummer * r38406 10/branches/8.x/pics/icons/mime/svg.png: [FIX] Added icon for svg edit, added from larger, just resized
marclaporte: deeku: I have seen this. Hold one
CIA-12: tikiwiki: 03robertplummer * r38407 10/branches/8.x/ (templates/fgal_context_menu.tpl tiki-edit_docs.php): [FIX] Backport of tiki docs file type checks
deeku: thanks Marc...
Is the number stored in the database the unix time stamp of the date?
marclaporte: you just need to change the template
deeku: Yes, if one could enter the year in a text field, it would do the trick

marclaporte: http://demo.tiki.org/8x/tiki-edit_article.php has 20 year spread
deeku: Edited the template and am now able to see more years in the drop down list but there is a problem
marclaporte: deeku: look at templates/tiki-edit_article.tpl
what is problem?
deeku: If I enter a year before 1901 (e.g. if I enter 1861) tiki records it as 1901
CIA-12: tikiwiki: 03robertplummer * r38408 10/trunk/lib/core/ (Report/ Report/Builder.php UniversalReports/): [ENH] Change of name from "Universal Reports" to "Report"
marclaporte: oh
you are really going in the past!!!
what is your use case? A historical blog?
deeku: yes, this is a news item I have been able to find http://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/cgi-bin/paperspast?a=d&d=NENZC18611030.2.14
FYI, it was quite easy to change the template to show more years
changed the line {html_select_date prefix="publish_" time=$publishDateSite start_year="-200" end_year="+10" field_order=$prefs.display_field_order}
used -200 instead of the original -5

lphuberdeau: deeku, don't be excessive :)
deeku: :-)
lphuberdeau: -20 is probably plenty, making that number too large increases the page size quite a lot and slows down everything

tikiwiki: [NEW] Now exports wiki syntax
tikiwiki: [ENH] Namespace change from universal reports to report
deeku: I agree. However the issue remains that tiki is unable to accept a date prior to 1901 and this is probably due to some other reason - maybe an epoch year when setting the timestamp?
lphuberdeau: 1970 actually
actually depends if your system is 64 bits
well, entirely on whatever php does
marclaporte: http://dev.tiki.org/Banner page alias is not working
deeku: Anyway, thanks Marc for all your help with this. We use tiki quite a bit, we now have more than ten tiki sites for our clients

deeku: Marc, the problem with earlier dates in articles occurs even for the year 1940. This is FYI.
