I've changed my logo away from the standard logo, and I've verified the new logo does exist on the remote server (both ssh and sftp show it there), but I'm getting the broken image icon when I apply the changes. NachoMahma: Are you sure it is in the correct directory on the server? Are you sure you are specifying the correct path/filename for the new logo?
BTW, I'm _not_ a TW expert, those are just the regular troubleshotting stuff mearley: well i believe so; i put it in the img/tiki/<filename.png> directory, which is the same directory tiki was using for the original logo
i also did an alternate attempt, creating a new folder img/logos/headerLogo.png and that also does not wokr NachoMahma: In the L&F Admin panel of the v8.3 I am using, I have "img/custom/filename.gif" in the "Logo source (image path):" field
I uploaded the GIF to the "custom" folder I created in Tiki's img folder mearley: and your full path is something like tiki-8.3/img/custom/filename.gif (where tiki-8.3 is whatever folder name you used for the 'root' folder) NachoMahma: yes mearley: yep me too--i even just now duplicated the image into a 'custom' folder so it's tiki-6.4/img/custom/headerLogo.png NachoMahma: with tiki-8.3 being in the "public_html" folder mearley: and the field in look and feel is img/custom/headerLogo.png NachoMahma: That _should_ work as far as I can tell. Maybe you need to talk to a real TW expert.
Are you sure the dir and file permissions are set properly? mearley: so the other oddity that makes me think i'm not doing it wrong is that i've also installed a new theme (milky way), following their theme installation instructions, but that doesn't show up in the theme dropdown either.
well they should be, as I mentioned I can see the files are in fact there on the server
(and yes I logged out, cleared all browsing history and logged back in with no effect) : ) NachoMahma: Check that the server perms for "img" and "custom" are set to 755
You may have to clear Tiki's cache
I'm assuming you are tunning on a *nix system
*running
There is an Admin Panel option to clear Tiki's cache, but I don't know where it is off the top of my head
Typing "cache" or "clear cache" into the search on the admin page should find it mearley: looks like it's 755 (d | rwx | r-x | r-x) NachoMahma: Too bad. I was hoping the file system perms were the prob.
PS: I don't _know_ that 755 is the safest setting. That's just what I found on my system a few minutes ago mearley: 755 is standard for most folders everywhere NachoMahma: ok mearley: i also found admin > tiki cache / sysAdmin, which lets me clear all cache folders, and did that (no change) NachoMahma: I just don't want you to think I'm some kind of expert. What I have been telling you is pretty much standard troubleshooting procedures
There is the possiblity that your host server has a cache that will take a while to update mearley: so this is interesting...the log file entries
here are the newest entries

that's a little choppy... NachoMahma: I think I can read it mearley: well basically what you can see there is that when i change the logo, it's just showing a ... NachoMahma: It _looks_ like it's still trying to use Tiki_WCG.png for the logo mearley: unless i change it to the 'old' tiki_wcg.png original logo, which it registers; and the last entry shows my cache clearing
so we know it's current NachoMahma: We've done the basic troubleshooting, so, as soon as an expert shows up, he/she should be able to give you an answer mearley: cool. yeah, so i changed it to the 'default' value, and there is the original logo present now, instead of the broken image. Interestingly, I actually renamed the default logo to Tiki_WCG_orig.png and then named my new logo to Tiki_WCG.png, but it still shows the old one NachoMahma: Are you sure your PNG is not corrupt? mearley: yeah NachoMahma: Maybe try a JPG or GIF mearley: e.g., if i quick-look it on the remote server I see the file
and it opens in osx Preview also
correctly NachoMahma: I'm grasping at straws ;) mearley: yeah no problem i'd rather grasp with someone else's ideas AND mine than just mine NachoMahma: heehee
Is your server hosed on a *nix system or on your Mac?
*hosted mearley: amazon ec2 NachoMahma: I'm not familiar with that one mearley: you know what, i'll bet my developer has subversion version control enabled--it wasn't there yesterday but since i was going to start mucking around he enabled it. NachoMahma: Looks like your OS choices are either Win Server or a flavor of Linux mearley: he says he did not turn on version control yet...I'm using OS X currently (MAC) NachoMahma: Excuse me for asking such a personal question, but if you are paying a developer, why are you "mucking around"? mearley: we work for the same company NachoMahma: ok mearley: me = designer, he = developer & site admin NachoMahma: For mucking around use, I'd setup another copy of TW and play with that.
But that's just my opinion ;) mearley: we're just starting out, this is our 'muck up' version NachoMahma: ah
Can you alter the original (Tiki_WCG.png?) graphic and get the change to show in your browser? mearley: SO NachoMahma: It still sounds to me like TW is not finding the new graphic - either you are putting it in the wrong dir or specifying the wrong name in the L&F panel. But it appears that you have verified both. I'm stumped. :( mearley: I right-clicked on the logo and chose 'open link in new tab', and the new tab opened showing the updated logo...it's as if I had to exit the admin to get it to refresh properly NachoMahma: Great
!
Somebody (web browser?) had it cached mearley: i'm wondering if it refreshed because i exited the admin section NachoMahma: Very possible, but I don't know mearley: well...so there's a 3rd guy involved (the marketing guy), and he and i have been talking during this...apparently he changed the link for the logo to point to his (external to Tiki) server file and that is why it works now NachoMahma: Too many cooks... mearley: he changed it because i asked him to see if he could make the change and get it applied, though I didn't know he was going to point outside the tiki files NachoMahma: More unsolicited advice: Set up _three_ copies of TW - one for each "cook" mearley: i wanted to know if someone else can make the changes work NachoMahma: When everybody has a better idea of what's going on, then use just one
Get him to upload his graphic to the server and try it. Since the external graphic works, it sounds like your graphic may be corrupted redflo: joined #tikiwiki
