hey everybody, can I ask a quick question regarding tiki wiki features?
I'm looking to set up an online wiki or database, with users being able to log in, check articles and such, with me having the ability to log what they are looking at/what IP they're using/etc. Is that possible with tiki wiki?

riprap: Hi swordsmanz
Any tips for setting up a Small Organization Web Presence profile appreciated
MurphysLaw1: joined #tikiwiki
ricks99: riprap: are you having specific problems?
riprap: ricks99 At the initial stages of setting up, looking to assign profile path
ricks99: you mean path to the profie respository?
riprap: ricks99 yes
ricks99: the default tiki repositry should be pre-loaded, no?
something like profiles.tiki.org ?
riprap: ricks99 yes. There is no list available though.
ricks99: are you conntected? verify your status
see my primer: http://twessentials.tikiforsmarties.com/Using+Profile+Repositories for hints
swordsmanz: ricks99: thanks that awesome
ricks99: if ur behind a firewall or use proxy, will need to adjust your settings
swordsmanz: is there any info about regards to a quick start on theme development ?
ricks99: have you seen the docs at http://themes.tiki.org? there's also my primer: http://twessentials.tikiforsmarties.com/Customizing+Tiki+Themes
swordsmanz: is there a way of downloading http://profiles.tiki.org/profiles
ricks99: sorry, don't understand? you don't "download" anything. Tiki grabs the setup info from the profile and applies it to your site db
swordsmanz: yes but we are having a problem connecting to the repository
ricks99: you can create your own local respository to use. Then simply copy the profile page from profile.tiki.org to your local repositry and apply from there

swordsmanz: ricks99: i can't find the file :(
sorry if I'm being an idiot
ricks99: profiles aren't "files" -- they're wiki pages
what you need to do:
1. Create a local repository
swordsmanz: done
ricks99: 2. Copy the profile page (from http://profiles.tiki.org) for the profile you want to use, and add it as a new page in your local profile reposityr
3. in your tiki instance (to which you want to apply the profile), change the default repository to the URL of your local repository
you need 2 local tiki intances for this: 1 to be your local reposityr, and 1 is the tiki that you're working on
swordsmanz: ok i can see a profile i want to use I'm just not shire how what file exactly i need to place in the repo
ricks99: for example, if you want to add this profile to your local repository: http://profiles.tiki.org/Personal_Blog_and_Profile_10x
simply copy that wiki page to a new page in your local repository tiki site
swordsmanz: sd html ?
as*
ricks99: no, it is a tiki *wiki* page
have you created a new wiki page in your local repositry?
swordsmanz: no iv just made the directory
ricks99: how many tiki instances do you currently have?
swordsmanz: 1
ricks99: you will need w
you will need 2
one to be your local profile repository, and one to be the tiki that you're working on live
see my instructins previously ^^^^
swordsmanz: so run a tiki install inside of /repo
ricks99: correct
this will become your local profile repositry
swordsmanz: is there a reason for making another instance of the whole system ?
ricks99: 1 will become your local profile repository (since you dont use the tiki hosted repository). 1 will become the tiki site that will *use* the local repository
sorry if im not clear... need more coffee
brb

tikiwiki As per discussion at http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.comp.cms.tiki.devel/29609 and http://tiki.org/Profiles+Team, to have more robust default settings, changing the default from Unified Search to MySQL Full Text Search, which AFAIK, never has any issues, even on shared hosting.

in tikki are changes made to the system itself with regards to profiles ?
Tiki-KGB: tikiwiki 03kstingel r45126 10users/kstingel/ 10(80 files in 71 dirs)

in the interests of directing my query to the correct person(s) ... could any PHP coder currently in the room pls PM me?
if it helps any ... my query is regarding the declaration of $prefs - in one instance (lib/setup/prefs.php), it's a static var, in most others it's a global
