I'm ready to murder my computer after installing tiki wiki cms (on justhost.com). I can't login because "cookies aren't enabled" even though they are. Same problem on different browsers, although 10% of the time I sort of get a login with firefox for a page or two, and then a boot PenguinMan98: hmmm. I'm a newbie too so I'm not sure fabricius: never heard about that problem ... and not being a newbie redrum: what surprises me is I cant find any solutions for this, although I did find an old bug or two, from *years* ago
I cant be the only person experiencing this fabricius: how did you install on justhost.com and which Tiki version? PenguinMan98: What web stack are you using?
That means which operating system / server / PHP / MySQL redrum: I think I found the problem....there is a ~ in my url
https://tiki.org/tiki-view_forum_thread.php?comments_parentId=39641
I used simplescripts to install
thanks for the help guys, I think I found what I was looking for PenguinMan98: Well, glad we could help!
lol fabricius: lol
it happens frequently to me
I look for a solution for hours PenguinMan98: I bet. I'm just getting started around here fabricius: then I think about how to ask the guys
come here, ask my question, begging for help ....
... 2 minutes later, often before any answer, I just say "ahhhhhhhh" ... solved
the right question is often the last step to the right solution -: PenguinMan98 nods PenguinMan98: I think the permission system defeated me again fabricius: oh what today? PenguinMan98: I started setting up the forums fabricius: I try to install a webserver on my android right now
ah forums PenguinMan98: But my forum administrator group doesn't get the option to administer them
here are my categories: http://screencast.com/t/MwZkIY1DgLW
So, I'll start with the public category
http://screencast.com/t/k6Glv7lblzkC fabricius: did you set the moderator group in forum admin? PenguinMan98: erm...
http://screencast.com/t/XQOcAaoZjb
that? astroo-: joined #tikiwiki PenguinMan98: wb astroo- astroo-: thanks fabricius: PenguinMan98: yupi PenguinMan98: So I just put in the name of the administrative group? fabricius: I'd try PenguinMan98: http://screencast.com/t/AqPQrqPCg fabricius: I always use the forums as admin so far ... sometimes I test as user ... not using communityy forums so much -: PenguinMan98 nods fabricius: Forum Admins should do it ... maybe they need additional rights PenguinMan98: hmmm....
Time for a little trial and error then MrDice: joined #tikiwiki -: PenguinMan98 nods to MrDice fabricius: yeah ... still on my aandroid anyway .. good luck and c ya in a few minutes ;-) PenguinMan98: kk MrDice: hi fabricius: hi MrDice: finally, i made it. astroo-: hello MrDice: recently i started using tikiwiki to replace our mediawiki at work.
while migrating the data over from the mediawiki into the tikiwik i ran into some problems i cannot handle on my own. fabricius: oops
did you read the docs? MrDice: yeah fabricius: hmm
I never migrated MrDice: i created a xml dump out of the mediawiki which loads fine in any webbrowser.
but as soon as i import it into the tiki i throws the error "invalid mime type". fabricius: ahh mime type MrDice: i searched for it, but i couldn't find any helpful information. :( fabricius: there was something recently
hummm
maybe Frank ... refizul here in chat
I do not exactly remember what was the story with mime types MrDice: yeah, in some forum i read about it, but i couldn't link it to my problem. fabricius: but long discussion and I think an easy solution
there was some problem with docx MrDice: any hint would help. fabricius: finally there was a hook to tell tiki about more mime types
I do not remember ... I think Frank knows
maybe if you check the forum for mime type / docx threat and review who answered MrDice: cool. then i will wait for him. fabricius: or you write in the foirum and describe your problem
or in the devlist PenguinMan98: double check the XML format too. Make sure that first tag has the right mime type set in it fabricius: or userlist MrDice: i registered, but i'm waiting for a approval since a couple of days. :( fabricius: ehh
cannot be
I approve .. whats your usename in tiki? MrDice: aah, that's might be the problem. i was already wondering, because i couldn't find any mime type at all (in the xml file).
Mr.Dice fabricius: username
ah
checking MrDice: thx PenguinMan98: hmm...
<?xml version="1.0"?>
I guess that's all it requires MrDice: i don't have the data here (at home). so i have to check on monday. fabricius: you are German? MrDice: yes fabricius: sorry for the delay, I must have overseen you somehow
I am German aswell MrDice: no worries! fabricius: we have a German Language user group MrDice: yeah, i also registered on de.tiki.org, but it seemed like no one is active there?! fabricius: want to throw out a mail to all the new members ... and hope to get a Tiki Fest ... FROSCON will maybe the next spot to meet up MrDice: may i ask you a question regarding IRC? do i always have to put the '/msg #tikiwiki' in front? fabricius: de.tiki.org is not massively active, but still a good site ... much activity is been moving to the tiki.org ... kind of the heard of the community
nope MrDice: that's why i showed up here. ;-) fabricius: once you /join #tikiwiki you are in the room and then you do not need it any more
your command is only to msg from one to anothe room
another MrDice: hmh, i always tells me 'unknown command'!?! fabricius: hehehe lool
test
hehe
just leave it away
btw you should have received your validation mail PenguinMan98: header("Content-Type: application/xml;charset=UTF-8")
Put that line in your exporter MrDice: that's what i did. maybe it is the client?
regarding irc. -: PenguinMan98 shrugs PenguinMan98: ah MrDice: thank you for the line. i will try it on monday.
yeah. thank you for the approval! PenguinMan98: no sweat MrDice: ah
now it made click
i thought i join by using '/join #tikiwiki'!?! astroo-: bye people MrDice: bye astroo-: bye PenguinMan98: later astroo- MrDice: @fabricius where are you coming from? astroo-: later PenguinMan98: I'm still not getting this to work fabricius: @MrDice Würzburg PenguinMan98: I want this to be a public forum so I only want the public category checked right? http://screencast.com/t/rLRPy4Ifch9P fabricius: PenguinMan98: public forum - public category, yes PenguinMan98: ok
so the public forum has the public category fabricius: PenguinMan98: in the public category set the category permissions for the actual groups ... which right for which group in this category
yes
this stack of categories you only use for permissions ... so kind of the permission type of the content ... PenguinMan98: OK. here are my public category permissions
http://screencast.com/t/Zhp4rjUD
You can see my groups. The forum admin is the only one with permission to administrate the forum
Registered users can do everything else. Anons can only read
global permissions are blank
http://screencast.com/t/QTJV9F2kDTRr fabricius: seems to be right enough to work PenguinMan98: That's what I thought fabricius: you are aware, that including groups to each other has effects? PenguinMan98: what do you mean? fabricius: look at your screencast ... several groups get all their permissions by Registered PenguinMan98: yes
Because they are all subsets of the registered permission set fabricius: if you demote Registered and take one permission, this permission is same time take from all the other groups
subsets, yes PenguinMan98: So here's my user groups: http://screencast.com/t/tZ29Jv5qbp5W fabricius: it is not a bad way, but you need to know what you do ... rights and roles / user and permission management is a hard road to go ... needs some feeling ... I think, it is quite good that you start here and set some foundation PenguinMan98: You can see that 'Generic User' has been set to have the registered permission set, the forum admin permission set and the wiki editor permission set fabricius: as far as I see, you did test with lots of permissions for Registered
I would avoid to give Registered permissions at all PenguinMan98: I've decided registered have forum access but not wiki fabricius: maybe applying for a newsletter or see pages of a category Registered
ah PenguinMan98: It requires the wiki editor group to get permission to edit the wiki
This is my groups heiarchy: http://screencast.com/t/IzLkznMo
you can see that wiki editors and canon players are not necessarily also guide staff fabricius: in case you did not give extra perms to Registered, but to an extra group, you could easily demote spammers or bad guys PenguinMan98: But the forum admin and wiki admin are guide staff
I can create a group for spammers that has near no permission and just assign the spammers to it fabricius: ah you did think about it very carefully PenguinMan98: ^^ fabricius: ah no, because you cannot get them out of registered
we had this problem in tiki.org
you'd need to ban them, if you do not want to delete (like for a temporary warning or so) PenguinMan98: interesting
So I'd need to set up a basic editor group then and then set the program to grant that role by default when an account is created fabricius: I mean in the database you could take them out, but you want to admin the system in the cms and not in mysql PenguinMan98: Otherwise I'd have to add that myself for every new user
which would suck fabricius: you got it
autoassign to a second level group and be able to demote
then Registered is just a container with no permissions in itself PenguinMan98: I think my problem is that I've given this user both the forum admin permission and the wiki editor permission. I think the wiki editor permission is overriding their forum admin access
Let me try removing it fabricius: should not
but ok PenguinMan98: shouldn't need it anyway. all guides can edit the wiki fabricius: ah one thing I might not have mentioned clearly enough yesterday:
there are certain few permissions, which need to be set in global permissions, for that certain category permissions can be in effect PenguinMan98: oh? fabricius: I do not exactly remember ... only tiny few
some general altering permissions
so let me think about ... which problem is actually left now on your site (according the forums issue)?
the group "Forum Admins" cannot admin the forum? PenguinMan98: Nobody can see the forums. At all
Except my admin SkiNut: joined #tikiwiki PenguinMan98: I'm looking at tiki for smarties and there are a lot of forum settings even my admin account can't see
I'm wondering if this would be a good time to press 'reset to default'
http://screencast.com/t/vwJ66sRv2
couldn't really hurt I suppose -: PenguinMan98 clicks it. The arrow turns around the other way. It now says 'restore current value' PenguinMan98: whatever that means
the feature is now deactivated and the checkbox to activate it is greyed out fabricius: ouch - fell asleep
sorry, must fall to bed PenguinMan98: lol, no worries
go sleep
Thanks again for the help fabricius: but you must have a silly simple thing which holds you from succeding
a tiny bit
normally that should work PenguinMan98: I know.
stupid thing...
hehe fabricius: objectpermission?
you must have hidden it from yourself somehow PenguinMan98: yeah
That's what I think
moar trial and error! MrDice: good luck! life is all about trial and error. ;-) PenguinMan98: Yeah. I goofed and changed my object permissions first not knowing what I was doing
Then fabricius taught me all about the wonders of categories
But now I don't know how to reset my object permissions to what they started as
So I just cleared them all
Now it seems I cleared one too many MrDice: bye PenguinMan98: nn! luciash: hi
PenguinMan98: you already know when you want to assign permissions to only specific user you need to enable "Create group for every user", right ? PenguinMan98: I didn't know that option was available, no. But I don't think that sounds like what I want luciash: ok, i thought the other day you asked about it or something PenguinMan98: I got it to work by enabling the anon user to read the wiki/forum in the object permissions. At that point, all the other permissions start working luciash: you asked: "09:32 < PenguinMan98> anybody know really quick, If I can't assign permissions to individual users, can I assign users into defined categories? " PenguinMan98: Ah yes. But I didn't know about 'groups' at that point
I was able to use groups to solve my issue, thanks luciash: yup yup
fine PenguinMan98: It's a really clever system

tikiwiki First attempt was wiped after an SVN problem wood1: hello everyone. I have a question regarding the random_image module image scaling. on my site www.darhhh.com, the images don't scale and overflow their box in the left and right columns. I'm sure i've just missed some setting to scale somewhere , but can't figure out where, or find anyone with google who's had the same issue. can anyone point me in the right direction? thanks Tiki|bot: Welcome to the official Tiki Wiki CMS Groupware channel. tikiwiki [FIX] Get rid of strict notices arildb: wood1: still there? wood1_: joined #tikiwiki wood_: arlldb yes arildb: which Tiki version are you running? wood_: 10.2
its been a problel for a while tho since 8.2. i'm just getting around to seeking help!
if i disappear again, its because tanzanian internet is rubbish arildb: There is no setting afaik.
However, I may have a fix for you.
Do you have access to the filesystem, and can edit files? wood_: that would be great! i tried some css, but no luck
yes i can edit files arildb: Open the file: <tiki-root>/styles/layout/design.css
In that file, search for: #random_image
Add the overflow rule
So, it looks like...
#random_image {
text-align: center;
overflow: hidden;
margin: 1em auto;
} wood_: i don't have a line for #random_image. shall i add it? arildb: hm-m you are on a different version, than I checked...let me check 10 MrDice: joined #tikiwiki wood_: ah, #random_css is defined in layout.css for me arildb: yes, you are right...not there
...ah..ok wood_: ok, have added the overflow line. does this mean that the "margin: 1em auto" isn't actually working as shouldn't auto scale the image? arildb: margin...not sure
any better? wood_: nope :( arildb: try to clear the cache, too wood_: oddley i can't see those sytles in firebug - just the text-allign center arildb: I am also watching you site + firebug, and the update is still not loading. wood_: i did shift reload - is that enough to clear cache arildb: No, to clear theserver cache you must select the "command". See the admin menu wood_: the margin style was there already, so its not just the recent edit thats not visible arildb: command: tiki-admin_system.php?do=all wood_: done arildb: better?
still overflowing, it seems
and the rule is not yet included wood_: yes. firefox gives the correct line number for #random~-image in layout.css
firebig sipherdee: joined #tikiwiki arildb: the rule is not loading. Are you sure you updated and saved layout.css? wood_: yes, sure its saved, but the margin rule was already present and that isn't loaded either. arildb: strange wood_: agreed -: wood_ is glad its not just him who's confused :) arildb: In firebug, you can manually type in the css rules. I typed in the "overflow" rule, and it solved your problem.
So, I am pretty sure it will work, once you manage to get the rule loaded.
I just added a fix for Tiki11. I am not sure if there will be anymore Tiki 10 releases.... Tiki-KGB: tikiwiki 03arildb r46130 10branches/11.x/styles/layout/design.css
tikiwiki [FIX] Prevent image overflowing into the boundary wood_: yes, i found that the overflow style stopeed the overflow. it doesn't scale the image tho :( so you still get "half people" etc arildb: Does the random image module have a size specification? wood_: no it doesn't really have any params arildb: So, looks like the alternative is that you scale the images in the file gallery wood_: so just crunch them to a different size as a permenant change? arildb: ..well, an alternative. You could make a preview copy maybe and leave the original?
a bit of work though... wood_: there must be a way to do it with css, surely?
not that i'm having much luck with firebug! arildb: I am not sure
resizing may leave some pictures warped wood_: do you think that because that module is used several times, there are several elements with id random_image? MrDice_: joined #tikiwiki wood_: if i load the stylesheete manually, margin is there, overflow isn't, but neither appear in firebug arildb: yes, I see the problem with the non-unique id. Not sure which consequences that has MrDice__: joined #tikiwiki wood_: ok, i have got the new stylesheet to load. overflow now hidden
thanks for that. i'll work on scaling the image and let you know if i find a fix
