arildbHi jonnyb [15:43]
jonnybhi arildb [15:43]
arildbI made a test with non-SEFURL and everything works fine
However, I agree with you that including initlib in route "doesn't feel right"
I made the adjustment, because repeated calls to utf8_decode corrupts the string
[15:43]
jonnybhmm, that's odd - i wonder what the difference is?
yes, that's why i suggested the mb_detect_encoding route
[15:44]
arildbmb_detect_encoding doesn't work properly [15:45]
jonnybah, ok :( [15:45]
arildbI could run the test, and it answered wrong, causing the same problem [15:46]
jonnybbut also if it could be moved into an IIS only section based on the SAPI if there is a difference?
hmm, dull
[15:46]
arildbyes, that's possible. [15:46]
jonnybi did see ony test that compared the length of the original string to the utf8 one, and if it was different then you need to encode [15:47]
fabriciusjoined #tikiwiki [15:47]
arildbOn the other hand, utf8_decode could be used. After all route.php comes first, so repeated calls may not be an issue [15:47]
jonnybactually i think the UN should make this sort of thing some sort of crime - all encoding should be standard! [15:47]
arildbUN? [15:47]
jonnybor add it to the Geneva Convention of something
United Nations?
[15:48]
arildblol
yes, have a political decision...tht would solve it ;-)
[15:48]
jonnybjonnyb was kidding [15:48]
arildbI will try to rewrite it, to get rid of the initlib inclusion and only check for IIS [15:49]
jonnybdi d you try mb_detect_encoding in strict mode?
a comment on php.net says it's useless without that
[15:49]
arildbutf8_encode should be ok, since route.php comes first [15:50]
jonnybthanks, why are these things so hard!? [15:50]
arildbmb_detect_encoding ansswers wrong. I made a few tests [15:50]
jonnybis there not a case where utf8 encoding something already urf8 causes corruption? there certainly is with most kinds of encoding [15:51]
arildbcalling utf8_encode repeatedly will corrupt the string [15:51]
jonnybeven with strict set to true? seems odd, this post says it helps http://php.net/manual/en/function.mb-detect-encoding.php#102510
anyway, i'll leave you to it - i guess we both have other things to do :)
[15:51]
arildbwill do some more tests, with strict [15:52]
jonnyb:) [15:52]

arildbmb-detect-encoding with strict works well. Just committed. Dependency to initlib.php removed from route.php
jonnyb: I hope the fix is OK now
[16:43]
jonnybwoo hoo! Thanks arildb, will have a look later [16:46]
arildb:) [16:46]
jonnybhey amette and amette_, i'm adding some session stuff to tiki-check.php and want to fix the "bad" rating for memory_limit == -1 (unlimited) and change it to just "ugly" and was going to add this text as an explanation - does it look ok?
"Your memory_limit is unlimited. This may casue problems on your server and should be used for testing and development only."
and/or Jyhem if you're about :) (hi!)
[16:51]
amette_hi jonnyb :) [16:52]
jonnybi'm guessing on a real site giving php all the memory would kill it? [16:53]
amette_smart ass mode on - it is "cause" problems, not "casue" - smart ass mode off - looks good to me, maybe a bit more detail which kind of problems would be good?
it doesn't necessarily have to kill the server, but if a script is buggy it can eat up all the memory...
[16:53]
jonnybthanks for the typo spot - any examples and info welcome [16:54]
amette_... so memory_limit is a safeguard against buggy/runaway scripts so to say. [16:54]
fabriciusjoined #tikiwiki [16:54]
amette_Or it could be a good script, but people trying to DoS you by giving it insane amounts of data to process maybe. [16:55]
jonnybneeds to be a one-liner really - i could give them your phone number :D [16:55]
amette_LOL :P
I was just thinking... we don't have any real explanation on the max_execution_time either, right?
[16:55]
jonnybchanged it to: This may cause problems on a production server... [16:56]
amette_sounds good :) [16:56]
jonnybmy one says: "Your max_execution_time is unlimited. This is not necessarily bad, but it's a good idea to limit this time on productions servers in order to eliminate unexpectedly long running scripts."
(localhost)
[16:56]
amette_Well, someone wrote quite a good explanation there, eh!? ;) [16:57]
jonnybyup (wasn't me ;) )
so how about
[16:58]
amette_however good that guy was, he does typos, too: "productionS servers" *g* [16:59]
jonnybYour memory_limit is unlimited. This is not necessarily bad, but it's a good idea to limit this on productions servers in order to eliminate unexpectedly greedy scripts. [16:59]
amette_Very good, I was just trying to suggest somthing similar, but couldn't come up with a proper adjective...
... I like "greedy"! :)
[16:59]
jonnybNot very technical but... [16:59]
amette_Well, I'd say those explanations shouldn't be overly technical... they are for the layman to understand the issues. [17:00]
jonnybwas thinking of naughty too, but i think greedy is ok [17:00]
amette_yep, greedy is more to the point [17:00]
jonnybok, moving on... [17:00]
amette_:) [17:00]
jonnybthanks :) [17:00]
amette_yw, thanks for the improvement :) [17:00]

gezzajonnyb, when are you doing 14.1? [18:21]
jonnybhi gezza - thursday afternoon by the look of it [18:22]
gezzaoh, thanksgiving
can test only the package when it is ready
[18:23]
jonnyboh yes, so it is! :)
yes, basically that's the last step of the release script, making the tarballs
[18:23]
gezzai will update my site when it is available, but dont think there will be much trouble [18:24]
jonnybit usually works these day so testing can go on for a few days (for ever ;) ) [18:24]
gezzazf2 update seems promising
i mean did not notice anything yet on my local test
[18:25]
jonnybyes, looks ok so far
same
[18:25]
gezzaso it will be merged back after 14.1 is out? [18:26]
jonnybthat's the plan
and we'll stop doing the auto-merging, so officially all eyes on trunk for tiki 15 :)
[18:26]
gezzagreat, I've been working on an optional way to integrate with transifex, will commit after that [18:27]
