-: Jyhem_laptop thinks fabricius: should stop browsing old xkcd strips and sleep :-D
fabricius: :D
I was not browsing old xkcd strips. I stumbled over http://bobby-tables.com/
a website with the am to help people preventing bobby tables
Jyhem_laptop: wobbly excuse :-D
fabricius: at least an excuse
fighting with tiki.org now
Jyhem_laptop: I'm glad I could narrow down my problem with registration templates files
nice show instance and all. This has been holding me for about 2 weeks :-(
fabricius: ahh well, very good. didn't know that you had problems with registration template files
ohh yes, settng up show instances from scratch is bad
I need to go mre into profiles ... alredy doing minor stuff with it ... and stumbling
but cool feature
Jyhem_laptop: Well, Robert had them all "revamped" 2 weeks before Tiki12. So I stepped around the issue using wiki pages as templates for spiral
Now I have a new site with elaborate registration and fine tuning huge pages in the wiki page editor is just crazy
I need a real template file with a real editor and save, reload page, edit, save, reload, etc
profiles are complicated but very cool, yes
fabricius: elaborate registration ... different groups to register with different codes, or what you mean?
Jyhem_laptop: Anyway, 2:30 looks like a good for calling it a day. Good night! :-)
no, a lot of user tracker firelds, all different, some with jQuery for drag-drop entering of data, etc
so an elaborate template
fabricius: ok, understand
have a good night and sleep well

jonnyb: hi Jyhem
Jyhem: jonnyb: there are files belonging to root in xavi-9794-5781
jonnyb: oh? wonder how that happened?
Jyhem: so... that might explain that it's not updating
let me svn up
jonnyb: ok, thanks
Jyhem: svn up done
php console.php database:update
sh setup.sh → f
jonnyb: thanks, looks good
Jyhem: should I do composer?
jonnyb: should i try the svn up from the bug report again? or are there still root files there?
i guess, why not use the svnup.sh script? does all that in one
Jyhem: hmm, why not, try that
no, nothing belonging to root, that's what sh setup.sh → f was for
jonnyb: :)
-: Jyhem going to shower, if all's good :)
jonnyb: thanks, yes, good now
er, actually no... ;)
nelsonko: joined #tikiwiki
jonnyb: hi nelsonko
i think Jyhem updated that instance as well manually, however now it's totally borked, no js files :(
Tiki|bot: New Forum Posts: IOS device. Error text: "Safari is`nt able to open the page, because network connection was dismissed. The server is busy" - http://tiki.org/tiki-view_forum_thread.php?forumId=6&comments_parentId=58825

jonnyb: yes, http://xavi-9794-5781.show.tikiwiki.org
nelsonko: probably composer failed
let me run that server side
jonnyb: not sure Jyhem did the composer part
nelsonko: ok done - looks good now
jonnyb: i was wondering why he didn't use sh doc/devtools/svnup.sh
nelsonko: let me try the svn update button
jonnyb: super, thanks
pleasingly, the tour now works on http://xavi-9794-5781.show.tikiwiki.org/tiki-index.php?page=Tour3 *(which is what i was wanting to double check ;) )
because i've asked the developers if they can tag a release of it for us (we're using their dev-master so far)
nelsonko: I see the gateway timed out too
let me try a different bug
jonnyb: Jyhem said that instance had files owned by root in it, which might have been a clue but he ran setup[f] but it's still not working
nelsonko: why is dev so slow?
server load does not look that bad...
jonnyb: it's been this slow for months
nelsonko: it's especially slow today
jonnyb: i was hoping 15.x would help, with the better conrol on the stats logging but no
nelsonko: it's going to take some serious profiling one of these days
jonnyb: the odd thing is that my tikis seems to run nicely these days, so i think there's something about doc and dev that's killing poerformance there
nelsonko: the other bug works
even though kind of slow (but comparable to loading new page)
some profiling will get to the bottom of it
last year we did some profiling and performance testing on one of our other sites, took the entire team pretty much the week to identify and attack
but the funny thing is that on a regular tracker page it should not be an issue
PuppyKun: joined #tikiwiki
nelsonko: most of the problems we found was search queries returning too much data related
jonnyb: for me it's mainly saving things that seems to take so long
nelsonko: I thought the saving was tracked down to the logging?
jonnyb: which is why i was suspecting the elasticsearch maybe, but amette moved that to be local at the last tikifest, didn't he?
nelsonko: it is a local elastic search now
jonnyb: it's still slow, and stats is now off (i believe)
nelsonko: I thought someone turned on stats again.
jonnyb: it might be an issue with the size of some of the tables, like the logs
that was action log, stats recodring is what had been hard-wired to be on until 15, so that should now be off
nelsonko: I remember an issue with log size table on one of the tiki.org sites years ago
jonnyb: but we should keep action log going to keep out spammers etc
we need an archive feature for them
nelsonko: actionlog is on...
jonnyb: (mainly just a big sql statement to output to a csv and delete old ones)
nelsonko: that's what I did the last time I remember
it wasn't even to a csv

nelsonko: alright. fixed the gateway timed out
it was the file owner
Jyhem must have gone with the setup.sh default of www-data
but that's not right on show
(because that's the web server duh)
it should be the user connecting from dev
Jyhem_laptop: joined #tikiwiki
nelsonko: But jonnyb, the user feedback is still annoying because it appears after such a long delay
(it's my crappy js code)
jonnyb: yes, i see in the js in the field tpl that there are supposed to be divs displayed telling the user what's going on, but these happen when the ajax call has completed, rather than starting
if i can get a test to run (even a bit) locally i'll look at it
nelsonko: do you have access to the server?
or to dev at least
jonnyb: no, i'll work locally - safer that way ;)
nelsonko: ok - but d you have a show instance?
jonnyb: sorry, meetings now, more later i hope...
nelsonko: I mean you need a valid key to access
jonnyb: i think i can fake it eound locally to pretend
nelsonko: anyway - I need to go to, need to get to airport soon
jonnyb: ok, bon voyage and thanks :)

Hello from Brazil! (ok not that happy, we are trying to survive with this corrupt and expensive state. At least millions are fighting for it. :-) )
anyway, I am here for tiki, and I need some help after upgrading my blog and kennel site.
jonnyb: hi GuilhermeBCM, welcome!
GuilhermeBCM: After upgrading from 11 to 14, everything looks good except menus. The "drop-down" is not working and I guess this is related to my server setup. I have migrated it too.
hello jonnyb!
jonnyb: how did you install?
GuilhermeBCM: I use a NGINX reverse-proxy to a NGINX webserver with php--fpm. All on Debian Jessie, but the reverse-proxy was compiled from source, but I guess it is not playing a significant role here.
jonnyb: i mean from svn or ftp?
GuilhermeBCM: well, if you mean Tiki I have downloaded the official release. Nginx reverse-proxy also a release. Nothing from development channels, only regular releases.
jonnyb: ok, so you should have all the vendor files there (sometimes composer can have problem but that's only if you use svn to install, which we do quite often)
is it a public site? can you pm me the url and i'll have a look?
GuilhermeBCM: of course! My alread moved blog is "http://gbcm.me" and my not moved Kennel site is http://grosserbach.com.br
jonnyb: so which menu is the problem?
GuilhermeBCM: If you set grosserbach.com.br and www.grosserbach.com.br to 167.114.64.32 you will se my upgraded site.
jonnyb: i'm on http://gbcm.me
the little menus on the blog actions seem to work ok
GuilhermeBCM: sorry I forgot the menus are not set to anonymous. Can we move to grosserbach.com.br?
jonnyb: sorry, need to go, not hacking my hosts file just now
GuilhermeBCM: in the topbar you will see I have the menu set with Level0 and Level1
jonnyb: do you see any javascript errors in the colsole? (firebug etc)
GuilhermeBCM: I did not check it. I will try now.
jonnyb: i'm hoping you flushed all the tiki caches?
GuilhermeBCM: yes, all cache flushed
i have tried bootstrap theme also, setting other themes. I have discarded the browser because Tiki project sites loads perfectly
Well, console shows "unreachable code after return statement" on every page. On tiki.org this not happen.
jonnyb: can you get it to break on an exception and see what's causing it?
mind you "unreachable code after return statement" just sounds like a warning not a bad error
GuilhermeBCM: Yes, I agree. I was trying to add a menu on my blog but it is not showing up. Also when I click on "enable css" checkbok when editing the menu it does nothing. I am almost sure this is something around my nginx config.
Jyhem_laptop: joined #tikiwiki
jonnyb: GuilhermeBCM: i have to go soon, but if you can set up a test i can see (easily) i'll try and have a look later
repolom Jyhem_laptop
Jyhem_laptop: jonnyb: sorry for the failed upgrade. glad nelson fixed it
jonnyb: no worries
GuilhermeBCM: ok, I will try to setup something on my blog and then I will be back here. Thanks!
jonnyb: the svnup.sh script does it all in one
Jyhem_laptop: I doubt the svnup script guesses the correct user for the chown -R
that's how I got everything in www-data : by leaving the default value
at least I had a chance to put the correct value (if I had been more awake/less in a hurry)
jonnyb: it runs setup.sh in default mode i think
Jyhem_laptop: yes, it does.
and no prompting
that doesn't work on ISPConfig either, so I'm used to running them all one after the other
jonnyb: oh dear, right, i looked a ispconfig long ago and thought it was terrible (i use virtualmin, much better imho)
Jyhem_laptop: yes, the files belong to web19 and such :)
jonnyb: ik, nasty
food time here, back later...
Jyhem_laptop: you know how it is. "security".
bon apptit

joeblue: Hello everybody, I would appreciate if someone could help me with a little issue: I have been looking for hours now but I can't seem to find the entry that lets me create custom templates.
I followed this guide: https://doc.tiki.org/Content+Templates
There it says: To create or edit a content template, follow the "Content templates" link from the admin section of the application menu (called the Settings menu from Tiki14 onwards).
but I cannot find any link like that
jonnyb: hi joeblue
joeblue: hi
btw. of course, I am signed in as admin
jonnyb: you need to enable the feature/s first (it should say that)
should, but doesn't :(
joeblue: yes it does
oh no, you're right, but I found that in another guide
but also, I don't have that feature when I check the features for "wiki"
jonnyb: there's one on the wiki admin panel, and another on articles
i just searched for content templates and they both came up
chibaguy: On tiki-admin.php?page=wiki there's a checkbox: Wiki content templates
jonnyb: that's the one, hi chibaguy
chibaguy: To activate the feature (anyway, in branch 15 I'm looking at now)
joeblue: yeah, that's where it should be - in the "general settings" tab but it isn't there
im on 14
jonnyb: or on text area maybe?
joeblue: sorry, I'm not sure, what you mean by that
chibaguy: Maybe you have to select "Advanced" under the filter icon at the page top.
joeblue: i'll, check
jonnyb: those preferences should also appear on the textarea admin panel i think (because it's about text editing) - don't worry about it, just thinking out loud
joeblue: so i go to: settings -> control panels -> wiki -> tab "general preferences" ... that's where you guys have it, right?
omg, thank you
that was it ... it only pops up if you add the advanced options ... i didn't even know these existed
jonnyb: you can always use the search at the top of the admin pages
chibaguy: Yeah, that throws me off, too, if it's a new site, etc.
Or if somebody says they don't see the item.
jonnyb: yes, it was decided therte were too many options for most people, so we wid most of them :)
but i think if you search everything shows up
joeblue: see, that's part of the problem. it doesnt show up in the search results either, if you do not have the advanced options checked
jonnyb: ah, maybe not - sorry
joeblue: ok, guys ... thank you many times. i tend to spend hours clicking through everything before i dare to waste someones time. should have asked earlier :)
have a great day!
jonnyb: thanks, you too :)
joeblue: i'll spend the rest discovering advanced options, hehehe
chibaguy: :)
hey, live dangerously - click "experimental" too. ;-)
(I'm not sure now what turns up there.)
Jyhem_laptop: not sure either :)
jonnyb: i think elFinder is still experimental, probably shouldn't be by now
Jyhem_laptop: Now that I eventually got this registration template issue documented and in show, I get back to this unfinished blog stuff
-: Jyhem_laptop is amazed at the number of obscure wysiwyg options
Jyhem_laptop: So, Use Wiki syntax in WYSIWYG actually means Use WYSIWYG and we store in Wiki syntax, I realise
jonnyb: yup

fabricius: hmmmm. Maybe we could make it a bit more descriptive, yes ... thinking how
jonnyb: something like "pages are stored in wiki syntax" maybe?
chibaguy: Use Wiki syntax in WYSIWYG sounds like a user input option, not a storage option.
fabricius: sure, yes indeed
chibaguy: So the WYSIWYG input is changed to wiki syntax, not HTML, and stored that way? So the page could be edited with the standard wiki editor?
(later on)
fabricius: "WYSIWIKI: The WYSIWYG editor (CKE) will store the age data in WIkiSyntax instead of HTML and thus becomes more compatible with the standard WikiSyntax editor, providing the possibility to switch between the editors without parsing errors"
something like that ?
and the page data, not the age data, sorry
jonnyb: :O
for the doc page maybe
fabricius: what do you guys think about the term "WYSIWIKI" ?
-: jonnyb hates the way tiki is getting buried in help text so you can't make out what the actual controls are
fabricius: it could be behind a help icon and pop up when click on it on purpose, only when you want to know what it is
chibaguy: fabricius, I get lost when rendering that acronym in words: What you see is what ...?
fabricius: should not be burying
Jyhem_laptop: back
chibaguy: Seems like there are two schools of thought - one says no need for separate docs - put all info in the ui.
fabricius: hehe chibaguy sadly it would not really be an akronym - more a shortening of WYSIWYG-WIKI
chibaguy: That could be confusing :-)
jonnyb: let's not make up new terms for thing please? makes it harder for everyone to understand
Jyhem_laptop: Yes, I think the message is coder-centric yet it is displayed to the users...
fabricius: yes ... I like it, but not everything I liken necessarily makes sense or should be done that way
Jyhem_laptop: WYSIWYG editor stores pages in wiki syntax?
fabricius: main question I think is, if an explanation, what a preference actually does belongs to the UI or not.

Jyhem_laptop: I was about to improve on the blog upgrade script which was reverted, but now I feel it's worth taking some time to check how well it worked before (I feel suspicious)
fabricius: I can only tell my experience: It saves me time and hussle, when there is a descriptive note modal behind an info or help icon, why not optionally with a link to the docs for more indepth information.
Jyhem_laptop: If you are provided with a checkbox, you need enough info to understand what the checkbox is about.
This particular text indicates the reverse of what the option does
fabricius: when I go through the assive number of options and have to handle stuff I would no do every day, I am missing awol descriptions ver much, as then I am forced to either test like trial and error what the preference actually does or I have to research the docs, sometimes finding out that they are either outdated or missing aswell
Jyhem_laptop: but isn't that why we discuss a better text?
Jyhem_laptop: Yes, sorry, I got the feeling we were mixing "fix the text" and "provide more explanation"
chibaguy: I have to take my dog out now; bbl.
fabricius: WYSIWYG (CKE) by default stores it's page data in some sort of cluttering HTML. In Tiki you have the option to alternatively let CKE store in clear WikiSyntax, which keeps the page source clean over times, when the page is edited often and by many people. Additionally it makes it possible to switch editor forth and back at any time without braking the content.
happy walk chibaguy
Jyhem_laptop: fabricius: is that for the doc page or the admin page?
fabricius: Text:
"WYSIWYG (CKE) by default stores the page source in HTML. With this preference WYSIWYG (CKE) stores the page source in WikiSyntax, thus the page source stays clean over times and it will be possible to switch editor forth and back at any time without braking the content."
this for the tool box modal hint behind the info icon
and the help icon should get a more-info link to the doc page on doc.t.o, where I am prepared to add an a bit more descritive explanation.
Jyhem_laptop: ok, understood. +1
fabricius: I mean, switching the editor between WYSIWYG and WikiSyntax when this option is off should be prohibited for non-admins.
jonnyb: fabricius: i think there's a pref for that already
fabricius: joined #tikiwiki
Since this preference offers a robust WYSIWYG storage fully compatible to WikiSyntax (maybe minus extesive nesting of wiki plugins) I more and more love it and dare to offer it by default to users of productive sites.
But NEVER EVER WYSIWYG with HTML storage - too much hussles with over times braking content, sticked together tables etc, which can only fixed in the source of the page and what only advaned users do -- I do not give users WYSIWYG only to force them to fix edits in pure but cluttered HTML
just my experience
who made the WIKI storage working so nicely? I gusee ainly Jonny? So 3 hurrays to Jonny: hurray hurray hurray .. really a great thing now.
Jyhem_laptop: Welll, I just wanted to make sure and I rolled back to r 57712 (before any blog fixing). The WYSIWYG was already quite broken then :-(
jonnyb: thanks fabricius - glad you like it, i just helped out :)
Jyhem_laptop: o/
fabricius: no really Jonny, do not underestimate it. I see this an absolute important crucial part of Tiki and maybe one of the needed unique selling points. I was supporting wikiLingo, because CKE/HTL was so disappointing. Sadly wikiLingo turned out to be a no-runner, but the WYSIWYG Wiki storage turned out to be a robust "decendant" that solved the problems we had previously
CKE/HTML
ohh I think I must learn to push my keyboard a bit harder, to not lose character so often when I type
Jyhem_laptop: WYSIWYG is broken on your side?
or with blogs? What's da problem?
Jyhem_laptop: It's a blog issue
fabricius: a blog issue?
or an issue related to the WYSIWYG imleentation in blogs?
implementation
Jyhem_laptop: hmmm, trying to find the bug report
https://dev.tiki.org/item5837
It's not really a WYSIWYG issue. It's a storage issue and gezza and I found a solution
fabricius: ok, just read that in the item comments - thx!
Jyhem_laptop: Then jonny asked if that solution was also good for people using WYSIWYG. So I rolled back some part, pending more investigation
fabricius: ok
by the way, did anybody realise the increased font-size on t.o and doc.t.o ?
Jyhem_laptop: Now I have finished finding why I could not set the registration thing, I get back to trying to understand how the WYSIWYG works (I don't use it)
jonnyb: was this when you have some blog posts made (using wysiwyg) in html and then others made in wiki mode? Any it can't tell the difference?
yes, i commented on your post fabricius - i think it's too big on the desktop, but just my 2
Jyhem_laptop: that issue was without WYSIWYG even active on the website
It's my projects site. No wysiwyg
jonnyb: oh right - weird
did oyu manage to set up a show instance to show it?
Jyhem_laptop: jonnyb: talking to me? about blog or about registration?
jonnyb: no, but yes, the blog html thing :)
my blog posts look fine on my local, both in wiki page plugin and blog posts list
Jyhem_laptop: I did, at the time. And Gezza found a fix, which I completed. But that's a fix for new Tikis.
there is still the important matter of people ugrading to Tiki15. I want an upgrade script so it's smooth

Jyhem_laptop: jonnyb: what's your config? pre r57752? wysiwyg?
jonnyb: i switch back and forth (you mean wiki vs html modes?)
probably been on wiki mode for a while
Jyhem_laptop: and do you actually display characters such as < > & ?
fabricius: no jonnyb, forth and back between WYSIWYG-Wiki and WiKI editor
Jyhem_laptop: you use wiki storage, I assume :)
jonnyb: it depends what i'm testing
i use both storages
but only wiki pages remember properly
fabricius: jonnyb: I commented back on the blog ... in short: maybe distinguishing between 1.5 to 1.8 depending on media queried viewports)
chibaguy: back
fabricius: rehi chibaguy
your dog seems to be quite fast .. or is t a small dog?
it
he / she
(no discrimination of dogs ... a dog is a he or a she aswell)
-: Jyhem_laptop experimenting with html storage now
chibaguy: medium-size dog, but quick
:)
She
fabricius: chibaguy: I send you a quick reread in query, what I suggested above and Jyhem +1 ed ...
chibaguy: Ok, thanks.
BTW, did you increase the font size on doc.t.o? I didn't see any discussion of that.
fabricius: maybe it could be pointed out better whitch "switch forth and back" is meant
I just tried out yesterday night and posted to the blog which Jonny already commented - was asking a few minutes here if s.b. realised
what do you think about rising the size?
https://tiki.org/tiki-view_blog_post.php?postId=644
chibaguy: I didn't really think it was too small before, actually. Even on my phone it seemed fine, to tell the truth.
Although the range between heading size and text size seemed too large, as discussed with Jyhem_laptop.
fabricius: I agree to the latter.
chibaguy: Now in firefox I feel the need to adjust the zoom down from 150%. :-) only to find my browser is only at 100% already.
Text size is a tricky thing. In MS Edge, the default size is quite small compared to Firefox, for example.
Without adjustment, themes.t.o's font size is close to the size of other popular websites, on my phone, it seems.
I don't think it's a good idea to change the font size based only on experience with just one device.
fabricius: Maybe we could increase only a little bit and lower down the range between heading size and text size - I agree that this seems a too big range
and likely then only a little rise of font-size would have a much bigger effect regarding readablity than would exect from a little rise ... yes the range between heading and text is massive
and you are right, I agree that (especially permanently or committing) changing the font-size based on only one device / browser / OS is a bad idea ... testing as many as possible is a better idea.
chibaguy: Torsten, let's please have a discussion of this kind of project site change in advance.
fabricius: ok
chibaguy: Let other people check on their phones and so on, etc.
If the theme needs a font size change for our sites, then it probably would for other sites as well. Then what about the other themes that have a similar size font?
fabricius: I reverted for now and will setup a wiki page for it ..
chibaguy: Many questions follow :-)
Anyway, I have to sleep now, so talk with you later.
fabricius: but the feedback of you and Jonny was interesting for me anyway
jonnyb: nite nite chibaguy
chibaguy: Sure, it's a valid issue that you brought up.
g'nite all.
Jyhem_laptop: Tests conclusion: the storage type (wysiwyg_htmltowiki) is global and this info is not stored with blog posts. What is stored is the "wysiwyg" field which is 'y' when the post was last saved in wysiwyg editor
jonnyb: wasn't that what i said? (a while ago) - same for articles
Jyhem_laptop: so, switching wysiwyg_htmltowiki never was a good idea wrt existing blog posts
jonnyb: at one point we had a very hacky pref that let you leave blog posts and articles in html always, or something (but it got removed and it was a very naughty hack - around tiki 9 time i think)
Jyhem_laptop: I like to understand exactly what is already broken. So afterwards, I know I did not make things worse by making others better :)
anyway, the real conclusion is, my new correct upgrade script should ignore the "wysiwyg" post field. It should test for the wysiwyg_htmltowiki feature and do nothing if it's on
and yes, my findings don't contradict what you said, which I like :)
jonnyb: sounds about right Jyhem_laptop - good luck :)
