Morning everyone ! I'm running my own tiki platform and trying to set things up (particularly trying to create several levels of access), but I can't seem to have access to categories, and be able to create and admin them. I can't even find a menu for that. Any idea ?
Found it ! The categories feature was not activated :-/
Just so you know I've applied to contribute in the translation of tiki into french. I'm pending approval ;-) I don't have money to give to the project, but I can help anyway I can.
I have one question though related to managing access rights for different groups through categories : let's say category A only grants access to Group A. And category B only grants access to group B. If I assign two categories to an item, say A+B, will both groups have access with their pre-selected permissions on that item ? luciash: morning
Padlock: I will check... where did you applied? Transifex? Padlock: yes :-)
I used the same nickname luciash: Padlock: assigning perms via categories will give perms to the groups you specify, so yes, it will give e.g. edit wiki page perms for both groups Padlock: Great ! thanks !! luciash: Padlock: hmm, I do not see your request on Transifex
ah, now i see it :) strange it is not in notifications
accepted Padlock: Ah good. So are you taking me in ? ;-) luciash: sure :)
thanks for joining :) Padlock: can I run by you what I plan to do for our documentation, so you tell me whether it's a valid method ?
i'll receive several documentation in a .doc or .pdf format, and they have several chapters. They want me to transfer it in the tiki as wiki pages as well as store the original file. I was planning on creating a structure for each document, with each chapter being a daughter-page, and then applying categories depending on who is supposed to have ccess to that document (sometimes just one type of users, sometimes several types)
Is that valid or the use of structures + categories sound redundant to you ? luciash: Padlock: sorry, was afk... reading
Padlock: nope, not redundant, categories are needed for the access control - structures cannot assign perms themselves Padlock: and does using a separate structure for each document sound good ?
I'm sorry I seem to be asking an awful lot of questions, I hope i'm not being a pain luciash: If the documents have several chapters (long), yes, why not... I am just not sure if they need to be in structures at all
You could also create one wiki page for each document and separate the chapters using ...page... syntax
Easier to maintain I would say
Padlock: you're not that bad yet ;) Some people ask whole lotta more and then they are pissed off if nobody replies right away :-p Padlock: Ah good :-) The thing about structures is that I like them. I like how the documentation on tikiwiki.org uses them (At least I think it uses them) and how they display a small navigation bar with the location of the page you're on. Also, the people I'm doing this for insisted that they don't care if I understand the doc I'm uploading, they just want to have that "browsing through a doc" feel added to it luciash: yes, that is neat Padlock: I have another question that's completely unrelated and I'll try to leave you alone for the rest of the day, while I'm testing all this :-) I seem to understand that it could be possible for a user who self-registers to select what sort of profile they'd like to have once connected. How is that possible ?
Let's say we have documents that are very technical and some that are only user guides. We will have user that don't care about the technical stuff and only wish to view the userguides, so as not to get swamped in too much info. So I thought I'd give them a choice when they self register luciash: what you mean by "sort of profile"? Padlock: And they would be dispatched to one group or another. Both groups have the same permissions, but each points to a different homepage luciash: ok, that can be done using groups and setting up group homepage for each group iirc
search for "group homepage"
to learn more Padlock: that part I managed. I created two groups with similar permissions, but they have different homepages. One homepage is simplified and will only have links to documents categorized as "userguides" , the other group will get a more complet homepage.
What I'm trying to find is how one person who self-registers can get to *choose* to what group they will belong, as I've noticed that when creating a group, there's an option "user can assign himself to the group"
Oh, found it. It seems to be a tracker thing. I'll have to read that, because i seem to not quite get a grasp on Trackers (although they seem to be massively used in tiki) luciash: ah, yep, that is possible you need to use tracker to display additional fields on the registration form for that Padlock: Oh even simpler ! In the admin panl>login section, you can select which groups can be offered to a user on the self registration page :-) I just tried and it worked :-)
luciash, you're a genie :-D luciash: Padlock: heh, thanks, but you found out yourself! lol Padlock: Ok, I'm going to try all this now :-)
thanks for your great help and have a nice day !

Me again.... I forgot to ask one last thing :-/
where exactly do I set my email server information ? I would really like to demonstrate how one can self register to my colleagues, but I need to have my email server info entered somewhere for the platform to be able to send emails, right ? luciash: Padlock: general admin panel iirc
you can use sendmail (PHP mail function) or setup SMTP server info there Padlock: I need to set SMTP (I don't know how to use PHP), but I can't seem to find it here, in "general". luciash: you need to change "Mail Sender"
to "SMTP"
under the "Mail" section Padlock: Is the mail section in "general"
?
Oh. I needed to toggle the basic display to "advanced"
sorry about that jonnyb: joined #tikiwiki
polomonday luciash: hi jonnyb
Padlock: ah, yep jonnyb: Hi luciash luciash: jonnyb: all good? Padlock: I'll look into that. Thank you again luciash !! jonnyb: not bad ta, but went out last night, so a bit of a slow start today... :P
sf.net svn still seems to be down - do you think they want us to move? ;) luciash: darn, hard to say :(
jonnyb: what is ta? (i know you mean thanks but cannot associate the "a" with anything)
:) jonnyb: hmmm, just english slang i guess, never really thought about it
possibly Scandinavian influence, seems a bit unlikely (tak -> ta), or just "infantile shortening and alteration" according to dictionary.com, seems more likely luciash: :D
ok, makes lot of sense :)
hmm, no issues on https://twitter.com/sfnet_ops
should we fill another ticket with sf.net? jonnyb: ew, so just us i guess?
maybe connected to the csv list problem i wonder? luciash: jonnyb: i think it must be something else - it started later than the commit notifications jonnyb: I was wondering if it was connected maybe with chealer's changes to the svn hook thingy (i wasn't really following i'm afraid) luciash: i will fill a ticket with sf.net jonnyb: Thanks luciash luciash: hmm, it seems it is a general issue in the end: https://sourceforge.net/p/forge/site-support/search/?q=%21status%3Afixed+%26%26+%21status%3Awont-fix+%26%26+%21status%3Aclosed+%26%26+%21status%3Aself-service+%26%26+%21status%3Apending+%26%26+%21status%3Ainvalid montefuscolo: joined #tikiwiki luciash: lot of tickeds already submitted by others jonnyb: seemed unlikely that it would be just us, i thought so
polom montefuscolo luciash: seems nobody reads them :(
unread unread everywhere jonnyb: yes, noticed that luciash: montefuscolo: hi fabio jonnyb: could you try some twitter magic maybe? That's public so they might take notice
this is a nice one: https://sourceforge.net/p/forge/site-support/14435/ luciash: good news is at least this one is already assigned: https://sourceforge.net/p/forge/site-support/14412/ jonnyb: yes, i saw that one - shame it's irrelevant now we can't actually commit any more! ;) luciash: seems they tried to fix this for us and broke the whole system
(hope not) -: luciash praying luciash: #prayforsfnet jonnyb: :D luciash: btw, today I noticed we have no multilingual settings for blogs, is that possible? :-o jonnyb: coo, seems odd indeed luciash: this was in latest 14.x ... maybe in 15 or 16? jonnyb: i think https://svn.code.sf.net is just off - totally luciash: yep
interestingly it is still browseable on https://sourceforge.net/p/tikiwiki/code/HEAD/tree/ jonnyb: think that's just a read-only mirror montefuscolo: hello!!
jonnyb, luciash, hello jonnyb: hi montefuscolo montefuscolo: :)
I'm getting connection refused for svn.code.sf.net
Anyone else with this trouble? amette_: polom montefuscolo: pom pom amette_: hi montefuscolo montefuscolo: hello amette_ ! amette_: and regarding svn: see the backlog --^ jonnyb: moloq amette_ amette_: heya jonnyb RadoS: jonnyb, "thanks anyway". jonnyb: yes, sf svn is generally broken still (since last week)
RadoS: :) amette_: sf.net, fresh and non-stinky as on day one
Luckily git wouldn't change anything, because it would also need the central repositoriy to be up for us to work... no, wait...!? -: amette_ stops being obnoxious now and goes back to debugging the backups RadoS: luciash, jonnyb didn't deny my variant, so you can take it until a better choice. Jyhem: polom jonnyb: hi Jyhem Jyhem: hi jonnyb amette: hi Jyhem Jyhem_laptop: joined #tikiwiki Jyhem: hi amette amette: jonnyb: the weird database error message happens on line 154 in Application.php, which says "exit($exitCode);" - wtf!? jonnyb: RadoS: i'd never heard that "ta" stands for any initials, i think it's just short for thanks :)
still on the backup mysql gone away thing, amette? as i think we found in brussels it's happening on the shutdown event somewhere, which is triggered by an exit call i think amette: yep, that one... right now the sun winds cause the backup to fail again... so I fired up the debugger to see where exactly... but the last thing is the exit... I don't seem to go into the shutdown functionality at all... or do I have to set some additional breakpoints for that!? jonnyb: yes, you'd need to add breakpoints in all the code the shutdown event calls
i think it runs as a new process of some sort... amette: right, ok, that makes sense.. I remember us setting break-points somewhere else... they didn't get saved though, it seems...
events.php, I guess!?
looks familiar, yup jonnyb: joined #tikiwiki Padlock: joined #tikiwiki luciash: amette: hei! Padlock: Hey...me again.... Do you know how to embed an image in a wiki page so it appears in its original size and not just a clickable miniature ? amette: luciash: ahoj! :) luciash: RadoS: what variant? (confused) jonnyb: joined #tikiwiki luciash: hi Jyhem and RadoS btw Jyhem: hi luciash luciash: RadoS: ah, that thanks anyway :) Jyhem: Hi Padlock: you should select "edit icons" on the top-right caret menu of the page
then you can click on the little icon besides your image and configure more luciash: Padlock: remove the thumb="y" param
from the {img ...} syntax
Padlock: you can configure that per a file gallery setting
Padlock: what is inserted on the img icon click Jyhem: you can also get on the file gallery and configure «Wiki markup to enter when image selected from "file gallery manager"» to something without thumbs=xxx
as luci just said :-) luciash: yep, that is what i just said (in other words)
:) Jyhem: you type too fast :) luciash: lol
when sf.net is down suddenly everyone has time to help on irc ;) Jyhem: lol amette: ha, "beautiful"... I found my way into the shutdown part and now the bug doesn't appear any more. *gg* luciash: is it about trim? amette: no, console.php since Tiki 16
well, scratch the last part... not sure, if it is Tiki 16 luciash: hmm, never heard about a shutdown part in console.php
nevermind :)
meeting here in 3 amette: luciash : the shtudown part is in tiki, so console.php uses it, too RadoS: Hmm, so jonnyb is right here http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=TA, but ... other forms exist, too, like "thanks again" (or _think_ again ;). Padlock: Jyhem and luciash thank you very much :! I'm not sure I understand, but I will try to check that jonnyb: I added a comment here https://sourceforge.net/blog/small-but-significant-changes-to-project-pages/#comment-70869 asking if this might have casued the svn outage... it's awaiting moderation apparently ;) Padlock: What shall I put for "wiki markup when image selected from "file gallery manager", instead of : "thumb="box" ?
(sorry, I'm continuing with the same conversation although I was gone for awhile, getting screamed at by my boss..) Bsfez: joined #tikiwiki jonnyb: Padlock: soundslike a fun afternoon for you! :) If you don't want the image to be shown as a thumbnail just leave that bit out, so something like {img fileId=42} will work luciash: Padlock: there is prefilled something like {img fileId=%fileId% thumb=...} so just delete the thumb part
:) jonnyb: :P amette: hmm, ok... sooooo.... dev/doc are down with the following error message: "PHP Fatal error: Class 'TikiCachedContainer' not found in /var/local/doc.tiki.org/www/lib/init/initlib.php on line 61" - any ideas!?
actually any site on that server is down with that error message... wtf!?
disk was full in between, and it didn't recover from that
can't even clear caches with console.php, because it gives the same error jonnyb: you cleared the caches i expect amette? luciash: wth? amette: jonnyb: nope, not possible
should I try that manually... with rm !? jonnyb: hmm, actiually sounds like composer didn't finish, so maybe setup.sh will do it? amette: ran composer, no change jonnyb: try and empty temp/cache then? amette: ok, I deleted temp/cache/container.php and now it works again jonnyb: phew! :) amette: yes and no... it quite sucks that Tiki shuts itself down completely just because the disk was full once
would it be possible to check if that file was created correctly and try to redo it in that case, instead of trying to use a broken file!? jonnyb: i thought we did add that a while back, but obviously not for this case
ok, i think i see it... amette: where? jonnyb: initlib.php on line 61
have a fix but no svn still... :( amette: hmm, ok, yep, I'd be interested to see that fix... I see many things that could go wrong there, but probably I'm just not understanding, what's happening there... especially since I don't see, why Tiki tried to redo it, when the disk was full jonnyb: i was just going to check for class_exists('TikiCachedContainer') before using it, and rebuild the container cache if it's not there amette: ah, sounds good, yep - and only if rebuild fails then die
this also catches all kinds of other potential errors Bsfez: joined #tikiwiki fabricius: joined #tikiwiki luciash: jonnyb and amette: good you found out! good work :) jonnyb: :) amette: :) Bsfez: joined #tikiwiki Telesight: joined #tikiwiki mattmiler: joined #tikiwiki nelsonko: joined #tikiwiki Bsfez: joined #tikiwiki
