[13:42] chibaguy hi jonnyb. Funny you should ask - just came back from a day of bundling up old magazines and so on, trying to remove the last of our things from the old house. :-) [13:42] chibaguy I think we'll still be at it until the end of the month. [13:42] chibaguy (Not enough time per day.) [13:45] jonnyb Well done, you'll get there in the end [13:46] chibaguy Yep, I believe so. [13:46] jonnyb I moved all my sites to a new sever over xmas and there's still one (tiki 3) site i can't get to work on new php etc :( just not enough hours etc... [13:47] chibaguy I see. [13:49] chibaguy I wonder if amette has had a chance to check why doc.t.o is acting strange (time out error on page saves, can't upload files). [16:35] fabricius hello computron [16:36] fabricius any problems? how we can help? [16:47] fabricius computron? [16:50] computron hey [16:50] computron sorry was afk [16:51] computron I have not started the install yet im still bringing the linux build online for the install. [16:52] computron I was just wondering if there was anything i needed to lookout for, [17:01] fabricius hmmm [17:01] fabricius downloaded branch or svn? [17:01] fabricius I strongly recommend svn [17:01] computron It will be on gentoo [17:02] fabricius gentoo can svn aswell [17:02] computron ahh [17:02] fabricius need to install svn on your linux [17:02] fabricius => much much easier and faster installation and upgrades [17:03] computron ok will that come up as a pre-req when doing emerege? [17:03] fabricius https://dev.tiki.org/Get-code [17:03] fabricius what is emerege? [17:04] computron emerge, is the lifesaving installation way to a gentoo install [17:04] computron it looks like it is supported from the docs [17:04] jonnyb joined #tikiwiki [17:04] fabricius most providers have svn, but as you install your server from scratch, svn would be a prerequisite if you want to use it [17:05] fabricius do you know svn? [17:05] computron I do not [17:05] computron I know what it is [17:05] computron have never used it [17:05] fabricius it is a version control system similar to git [17:06] fabricius you need only the code snippets from the above wiki page(s) copy paste [17:06] computron so is that recomended over using portage? [17:07] fabricius I do not know portage [17:07] computron gentoo, linux uses portage, its simillar to the distro system in red hat [17:07] fabricius tiki uses svn as version control system, thus you can install Tikis via svn [17:08] fabricius the gentoo installation level should not affect the php software level [17:09] fabricius you need to install apache and mysql and php and svn on your gentoo and above that you install Wordpress, Tiki etcetera [17:09] computron so normally with gentoo, I can install a package that is in portage, which it looks like tiki is, by simply doing "emerge tikiwiki" it will locate all the pre-requisits, and install [17:09] fabricius so imho portage and emerege have nothing to do with your Tiki, neither affect it [17:10] computron so I am looking at the gentoo install in the manual [17:10] fabricius I do not know, wether gentoo has integrated Tiki in it's packages [17:10] computron https://doc.tiki.org/Install-on-Gentoo [17:10] fabricius first Time I hear such thing [17:11] computron it looks like it has... but the update is old [17:11] fabricius ahh .. nice one ... I am more on debian based yorks [17:11] fabricius never stopping to learn [17:11] computron I have always used gentoo, i have gotten so spoied by it. [17:13] computron so, i am looking at building basically a data repository, and it looks like tiki can do everything i need it to do, is there a way to build pages that are forms? [17:19] fabricius you can easily create forms by using the feature Trackers ... then put a tiny wikiplugin with few or many parameters on a wiki page and you have "built a page that is a form" ... you can still add other stuff to the form or leave the form as is [17:19] fabricius Sometimes i use Tabs [17:20] fabricius one tab contains the form [17:20] fabricius the other tab contains the output, ex table or custom search form [17:20] fabricius start small and extend continuously [17:22] computron so my goal, is to move a bunch of data from multiple clients, to a clean system, so i am hoping i can build a template, and then duplicate that template and then load it with client data. [17:23] fabricius use trackers to collect the data and wiki pages to display the tracker result [17:23] fabricius I have to go out of the house - coming back later [19:05] Telesight joined #tikiwiki [19:06] robertokir joined #tikiwiki [19:46] fabricius polom [19:46] fabricius rehi compafk [19:47] jonnyb pompomn fabricius [19:47] fabricius hi jonny big wolod [19:47] fabricius jonnyb: [19:48] fabricius jonnyb wolodolow [19:48] fabricius b [19:48] fabricius args [19:48] jonnyb :) [19:48] fabricius how things are going? [19:48] jonnyb you ok? [19:48] fabricius sick [19:48] fabricius big time [19:48] jonnyb i'm fine, just off out [19:49] jonnyb ew, sorry to hear [19:49] fabricius ah nice [19:49] fabricius yeah me to. bed and medication [19:49] jonnyb get well soon! :) [19:49] fabricius thx [19:49] fabricius after next weekend likely [19:49] fabricius good for my npos [19:50] fabricius sitting in bed all day and ticking tasks [19:50] fabricius mainly administration and websdev, but also board stuff - very prodcuctive for the npos when sick at home [19:51] fabricius oh and bad typing [19:52] fabricius ahh jonnyb: listen what happened: my cool i7 16 gb tuxedo laptop finally broke apart completely ... never ever again by a non-ThinkPad or Apple [19:52] fabricius or non-Apple I mean [19:53] jonnyb sad to hear, they don't last for ever (or in fact... long enough) [19:53] fabricius I was travelling and quite outraged and out of ideas how to get back up and running for a number of projects relying on me and my data [19:53] fabricius BUT [19:54] computron i have to say i love my dell hardware... [19:54] fabricius just for whatsoever I took my old SL 300 centrino ThinkPad and swapped the ssd harddisks and started the ThinkPad [19:54] fabricius guess what happened jonnyb [19:55] fabricius it just works as if I had installed and worked on it since ever [19:55] jonnyb sorry, another time fabricius - have to go out now (well, in 3 minutes and have an email to send first [19:55] fabricius nothing to reinstall [19:55] fabricius just started worked [19:56] fabricius no prob - story ends here happily anyway [19:56] fabricius have a nice evening [19:56] fabricius bubu jonnyb [19:56] jonnyb good good, more tomorrow! :) [19:56] fabricius computron: on your side all working well? [19:56] fabricius installation wise on track? [19:57] computron I just brought the OS online [19:57] computron so just about to see how it goes [19:57] fabricius ok [19:58] computron well it seams the install docs are wrong... [19:58] fabricius by the way, when you install the Tiki, put the tikiroot in an extra folder as a container and a files folder besides it: [20:00] fabricius myproject/tiki [20:00] fabricius myproject/files [20:00] fabricius then the domain to myproject/tiki [20:00] fabricius and never a domain pointing to any folder above myproject, but for example to any myotherproject/bla/bla [20:00] fabricius the domain issue is not so important locally, but on a public server [20:00] fabricius just [20:00] fabricius saying [20:02] computron well this is upsetting... [20:05] computron fabriciusdo you know if any of the installation instructions are accurate for any of the os systems listed in the guid? [20:59] computron fabricius i am going to work this on a debian install instead of gentoo, it seems a little less complicated and easier to restore if i need to in the future. [21:16] computron is anyone around? [21:23] fabricius polom [21:23] fabricius on the phone [21:24] computron ok, when you get a minute, im trying to follow the guide here but it seems extreemly old.
